I suspect you likely will have to select private each time you want to go into a new mission or something perhaps. My impression was that the Private setting was persistent, but the game would keep begging you to change it.
I've had a few occasions where I had to switch it back to Private. I think it might have been after a Stronghold as I've played Freeplays on public without having to switch back.

I wouldn't recommend solo play, it's doable but you are handicapped. As for comparing it to others of it's genre, it seems on par with games like destiny or the division where content lacks but they'll add more later. It's also just as weak "RPG" wise like the rest, dialogue means nearly nothing🤷. You get two ways to say yes or no lol. I can absolutely recommend to play solo. I am playing on hard and it is a nice challenge. Really fun combat.
I haven't tried Hard Difficulty but, yes, I definitely recommend solo for the missions. It lets you follow the story and solve the puzzles yourself. It's a challenging combat but not overwhelmingly so. You can always do it again with a team in Quickplay later (although apparently you can get spoiled with Quickplay putting you into future missions so I'm holding off on those until I've finished the story).
Admittedly you get better loot if you team up but I'm not in a hurry for it.

My impression was that the Private setting was persistent, but the game would keep begging you to change it. Yeah it asked me twice to switch to Public twice just now when doin my mission just now but I kept it on Private. I was the only one on that mission and whilst I admit it's been tough thankfully the game's not thrown anything at me that I can't handle on my own yet. But so far I've only done a couple of missions so it's still early days. I would say the toughest part to do on your own is the bosses. I had to deal with 3 in my last mission but whilst it took time I was still able to deal with them. I did it just by staying on the move and just whittling each of them down bit by bit. Hard but doable but then I am playing on Easy difficulty. I am enjoying it though not as much as I enjoy the ME or DA games I'm sorry to say but still good.

You don't even know what you're complaining about. This so called chore basically gets done on it's own while we keep playing until end of month when new content drops. Unless you don't like the game, which you then shouldn't be playing anyway. *shrugs* Like I said, I didn't get that far before timing out, yep. I'm reading other people's complaints. Which are numerous. But does it really get done on its own? There are a lot of things on that list that I racked up zero points towards while playing, and wouldn't be likely to do except if the game forced me to.
Most of the requirements are just earned as you go and, since the day one patch, you start earning progress towards them a lot earlier than in the demo.
I think one of the requirements was to complete World Events which you can only do in Freeplay and one was to complete a Stronghold so if you are avoding those you're out of luck but avoiding freeplay is a bad idea because it's the best way to get materials for crafting and it's a big part of the fun, in my opinion. Freeplay is really just multiple people playing solo so it's not something you need to avoid if you don't like groups.
Avoiding strongholds I can sympathise with as the first time I tried it in the demo it was both stressful and a bit of a disaster with everyone rushing ahead and wiping but the two runs I did on the real game weren't nearly as bad as I thought they were going to be. Everyone worked together and it went pretty well.
I think it's ok to force people to experience the different aspects of the game at least once. You can get hung up on a false expectation of what it's going to be like and you could be missing out on great loot and enjoyable content if you don't at least give it a try.

im loving this game so much. the last two games i stayed up till 3 or 4 am was God of War and spider man. My only problem with the game is the loading screens. I'm at work right now, and all i can think of is flying with my Javelin - Ranger. in three days in have been playing i had one disconnect, and lost the volume for like 8 seconds.

Are you sure it's him that doesn't know what he's talking about? He's talking about the Tomb of the Legionnaire quest, you're posting about the Challenge of Valor.

Soo has anyone tried SP and if so how is it... and for fans of this genre - how does it compare to other similar games Since I saw ShadowAngel's answer to your post, I'd like to say that I disagree.
I've been playing every mission in the game (except the one stronghold mission I have access to so far) solo. I am currently level 15 and probably about 3/4 through the campaign. IMO, it was not a problem at all. I am playing on normal and I died maybe two times total, so it's perfectly doable. There is one enemy type that will take you a bit longer to beat as they use a frontal shield that is tough to get around without other players to surround them but over all I don't see a disadvantage at all. Quite the contrary actually, if you want to really pay attention to the story and the characters and take a bit of time to experience your surroundings on a mission, I recommend solo play. This way, you will not be rubber banded along and miss out on the radio dialogue (which basically plays constantly during missions giving you some pretty cool background info. I noticed this in the stronghold. Played it 3 times so far and every time I missed some of the radio stuff due to being pulled here or there.
I'll definitely finish the campaign and do the agent missions and contracts solo first.
All story missions for me have been solo, while contracts and side missions have been with groups so far. It is a good blend this way to me, and honestly I have yet to miss any dialogue regarding story missions or contracts.

I think the only missions with unique radio transmissions are crit path and agent missions (and the stronghold that I could play so far), right? Took me a while to figure out that contracts are just 3 world events chained in a row, so these are suited for group play for me as well..

Hardly a grind or issue.
