Welp. I've pretty much played since 7AM Friday Morning, until like 20 minutes ago to download the update, with small breaks for food and sleep. I am at level 15, and I've just finished the Tombs mission... as a lifelong Bioware fan, whos long since been jaded for nearly a decade, I decided to believe one last time, and take the plunge on this with the LoD version. This is my honest opinion of Anthem so far. But before I do, I want to preface this by saying, I feel like my many years of MMO experience has possibly attuned me to games like this. I also want to stress that I hated almost everything about the Demo.
The facial animations and body animations in the conversations in Fort Tarsis and even during the campaign scenes away from the Fort... this is in my humble opinion, Bioware's greatest work yet in this area, and it's not even close. Even now I am still gobsmacked by just how good these things are in several conversations. Likewise I am pleased to report the absolutely fantastic voice acting so far, almost across the board (male PC is okay-ish). So far the campaign is honestly quite acceptable to me, and is very much the typical fair that I've come to expect from Bioware after all these years with the typical tropes they love to use. Likewise the conversations themselves within Fort Tarsis are actually written quite nicely, despite the total lack of meaningful dialogue choices. But then I never expected those from a non RPG. The Cortex lore entries are very nice, and I've spent tons of time just sitting in Tarsis reading them. I also personally have no issues with the Fort Tarsis walking/running speed. It is more than fast enough for me personally.
The combat is just as fun as ever, and was the one big thing from the demo that I did enjoy. It's not getting dull in the slightest so far. It's just stupid amounts of fun, and it gives me hope for the games future, because if your gameplay is borked, your game is basically toast. Likewise I am loving the Bastion map. It is simply gorgeous, and actually far bigger than I was expecting given my low expectations from the demo. I am also happy to report that all the matchmaking pugs I've gotten have been fairly compatent, as I've been playing on Hard the entire time with almost no issues from a teammate perspective. I would also like to point out there is no shortage of players right now despite the review bombing. I think I've only seen the same player one time since 7AM yesterday.
I've also not experienced a single technical issue so far, aside from Frostbite Sound Bug. No disconnets, no frame rate drops, nothing. But the biggest moment for me, one that finally put a smile on my face, was when I found a radio in Fort Tarsis, turned it on, and heard an episode of "The Adventures of Detective Hops". This right here, was the sign I was looking for. Fun little unimportant story bits, like the Bioware of old. Not since "Blasto: Partners in Crime" have I seen this type of content from Bioware. Not since the Adventures of Herbert "Daring" Dashwood and his faithful ghoul manservant Argyle have I had this feeling. I then found a Cortex entry that put the nail in it. The entry for Governor's Terrace I think it's called, wherein it tells the hilarious story of the various ridiculous names the location has gone through. This was the proof I personally needed to see. The passion from the dev team. I felt no passion in Andromeda. But I can see the passion of the "A Team" here. Passion takes the form of the little things, putting work into things most players will never notice.
Speaking honestly, aside from the sound bug, and sheer number of loading screens? I no longer have any other complaints about this title as of this moment. Not one. I am quite frankly perplexed by the hate train of reviews, now having fully gotten many hours of hands on experience. If this opinion changes, I'll be sure to let people know. But truthfully, right now? I am honestly shocked to finally be saying, I am truly happy at long last, to finally be playing, a Bioware game again. I'll post further impressions once I've played more.

Meh, I myself won't care much about reviews or impressions till a few weeks after launch, it's easy for people to be distracted by the new paint. Time is the best way to show how good a game truly is, especially a grinder like this.
Good for those whom like it though (I do too, but I'm not going to say it's a good game yet though👌, it has to prove that first).

Glad you are having fun! You failed to mention what system or what PC setup you are playing on. That would be some useful info, considering your extremely fortunate technical experience so far.

It works fine on PS4, though I just had a disconnect after 10 hours of playing, more or less.

Jealous of your bug free experience. My game has nonstop issues while livestreaming.
I'm interested in how your opinion changes. Most of the positive-ish reviews I've seen had not played much past the infamous Tomb quest.

ps: There is another radio in Fort Tarsis that made me laugh.

For the record, I am using original, fat PS4. The Frostbite Sound bug has been a very frequent problem, but it has, so far, been my only technical problem.

Thanks for the review, therevanchist25! It's nice to see someone enjoying the game. I'm finding the conversations in Fort Tarsis to be pretty interesting as well. The limited dialogue choices are ok, and seem to lead down slightly different paths of a binary choose-your-own-adventure. Right now I'm doing a "left side" happy-go-lucky playthrough (with occasional right side choices when the NPCs are acting really foolhardy). The updates on their stories can be pretty funny. From my two days playing so far I can say that this game seems to work better for me as a "singleplayer" game, where I do all the story missions incognito. That way I can spend as much time as I want in between missions wandering the Fort and talking to people without feeling like I'm holding my friends up. Freeplay is more fun with friends, though. (Thanks sabreracer!) There are definitely things I wish were improved, but I'm having a good time.

Alright, upon further contemplation, I do have some further thoughts. I must confess the lackluster nature of the Striders are simply the definition of a tragety. They showed us "live-action" gameplay of Striders moving around on the map, getting blown up by a Scar attack etc. Why in the world have Striders been reduced to totally irrelevent static decorations? Bioware if you ever read this, please reconsider this creative decision. I want to fly around in Freeplay, and see Striders actually doing things, like travelling along the trade routes they use that are very much in the game. Have world events pop up where they get attacked and you have to go help them, and ACTUALLY help the crew repair them, have them stand back up and move along with a gimp leg. This is one part of my complaints from the Demo that has remained. The map is gorgeous, and massive. But it's also mostly empty, nothings ever really happening. It's not alive, it's a giant, beautiful shooting gallery and this is frankly a fairly big downer for me to realize this was not just a Demo problem. The Bastion Map needs to be better Bioware, it needs to feel like I am truly experiencing another world, not just flying around a lush, pretty theme park that just exists for my amusement. I want to see the wildlife interact with each other. Let me truly come across that Ursix getting attacked by Wolven. Just give me the Freeplay you showed me at E3. I know that looking at where the map is now, this is clearly asking for a lot. But if you did it for E3, I see no reason why you cannot eventually do it for real. I want a living, breathing Bastion. I want a living world. I want to see children in Fort Tarsis playing in the streets, maybe kicking a ball around, playing tag through the streets. Honestly I'm probably asking too much from you Bioware, because frankly, you've never really done any of that before. You've never really put deep effort into making your worlds feels alive. You've always done what I call the Morrowind thing, where your NPCS just kinda stand around in the same places, with maybe a small "patrol" pattern they follow. I also realize Frostbite probably makes most if not all of this just not feasable. But you did, at the very least, some of this for E3. I'm begging you Bioware, LukeBarrett or whoever else at the studio ever sees this. I don't want the Moon, I just want better than what we have. I want missions where we have to escort mobile Striders. I want missions where Fort Tarsis gets attacked, and we have to actually defend the Fort, and see those big machine guns in action, like your wonderful Freemark cutscene. Despite the fact that I'm overall having a lot of fun right now, I don't feel very Heroic, because realisitically all I'm doing is chores.

There is one quest (you have probably not played it yet) that involves a mobile strider. It was one of the more bugged ones in early access week. But I'm with you on hoping BioWare can do something more out of that in the future. Petition Signed!

I have run across creatures and factions fighting each other in the wild, but only twice. I wonder if the lack of that happening might be partly tied to the pop-out problem where the game decides you aren't going to fight something and teleports them to the beyond. I would love to see more of that.

Play Horizon Zero Dawn if you want to see moving striders, and what an attainable and suitable level of open world competence looks like... That game let you climb them even. They only moved in a small circular pattern but sure looked impressive. Seeing big robots destroy trees and rocks was extremely cool. When I saw that in the E3 trailer I thought, no way will this stay in the final release but it did. The world of HZD was way more beautiful and varied than Anthem and had pretty good enemy AI and super fun gameplay.
Bioware cannot for the life of them figure out open world it seems. After two failed attempts, I expected more of the same lifeless emptiness. The old E3 trailer had me hopeful for a moment. But nah, same shit again, sadly.
That said, I do hope you continue to have fun despite some gripes. Don't let us still bitter party poopers ruin your experience. I mean that. There's still time for Bioware to fix some of the issues.

Alright, I have finished the campaign, am lvl 27 and still have contracts and missions left to do. But I figured this was a good time to stop and provide more feedback. Not that anyone important is going to ever see this or care at all about what I have to say lol.
I legitimately enjoyed the campaign. I didn't go in expecting RPG quality story. My expectations for this was honestly really low going in, and they definetly surpassed the mediocere lvls I was waiting for. Much to my surprise they somehow managed to evoke emotional responses out of me despite this campaign not having a lot of screen time. Somehow they pulled off getting me attached to characters I don't have following me around in my party. There is one VERY BIG thing I want to rant about regarding this campaign, but this is not the sub-section for spoilers, so alas my frothing rage must remain containted. But I want to stress it is the good kind of rage. Ya'll probably know what I'm talking about anyway. Mistakes were made, and vengance will be had. Also, the post credits cliff hanger was dope, and got me super excited.
I'm still not bored, still having tons of fun with the game. That said I do have a few more critical thoughts to share. Why am I only getting loots drops that are related to the Javelin I am currently using? You told us we would get loot for other javelins that we have. As it is, it's a serious pain in the neck trying to gear up a new suit when your so deep into the end game and you get a new suit with basically nothing to equip on it.
This is only further compounded by your unforunate decision to decress rare drop rates. This is a serious mistake that you need to unfix immedietly. I do not personally mind that all the weapons are basically carbon copies with no original thought put into their designs. I can live with that, provided I get tons of loot to sort through like I have been. Unfortunetly Bioware, due to your head scratching algorithem that assigns perks to weapons, most of which are typically completely useless because RNG we as players are typically breaking down the majority of our loot drops. Well now we get even less drops, and again thanks to your RNG it's possible to not get a single useful item out of a mission now. Also, I should just in general, not be getting whites and greens AT ALL starting with GM1. That is frankly outrageous and it smells like a desperate attempt to pad out play time. But honestly this is going to have the opposite affect I think.
When your getting truck loads of decent loot, even if you end up scrapping like 90% of it, The content feels like it's worth your time. But when your wasting peoples time with Whites and Greens in harder difficulties? Hell honestly from GM1 and up we should be getting nothing lower than Purple from Strongholds imo. That is suppose to be your reward for sticking it out until the end game. You did your time with the crap Gear. End game hard difficulties needs to be the Lootsplosions of amazing things as a payoff for the effort to get there. Nobody wants Whites, come on. That said, the algorithem for weapon traits needs to be re-examined. I know it's already been said, but Harvest Bonus? seriously? +15% Auto Pistol dmg on a shotgun? imo this is just too much RNG. The traits need to make sense. Killing Titans is just not worth the effort anymore. It can take like 8 minutes or more to kill 1 Titan on higher difficulties, and gettings Whites and Greens for all that time spent? No, all your doing is telling people to just never bother with World Events ever again.
Lastly on this, The damn tethering. For the longest time it didn't bother me, but the last 4 or 5 hours or so that I played today, it started to finally get on my nerves, as whole lines of quest dialogue is constantly getting skipped because of these horrible teleports. Listen, I understand WHY this system is here, I really do. We can't have people just skipping around in the fields picking flowers all day. That would make me just as mad as this tethering does. I'm not sure what the answer is, because I'm not a game developer, but something has to be done about this, something bigger than just increasing the distance of the timer. Because if I stop to pick one Ore deposit, everyones like 5 miles ahead and the timer starts. I've also missed entire lines of dialogue due to the loading screens. WHY does dialoge start up when the FIRST player is loaded in? This makes absolutely no sense. THe trigger needs to be tied to whoever launched the mission, so that person does not miss anything. Also, don't let players interact with say, an item trigger to start the next phase until the dialogue is finished. You do this several times during the campaign so I'm not sure why this isn't consistenly implamented.
The loading screens need -something-. Cortex entries, interactables, anything. I cannot keep looking at the same few concept art pictures.
I think that's it for now. Again, if I have more thoughts later, I'll come back, so I have all my thoughts in one place.

I really feel like Stronghold bosses need unique loot drops. You've gotta address everyone just running Tyrant Mine because it's easier. Don't get me wrong, I love Tyrant Mine. I ended up pre-ordering because of Tyrant Mine. But holy cow it's a problem trying to do the other 2. The other 2 are way harder, and because you always get the same damn loot no matter what you do, there is literally no reason for anyone to run those. This is only going to contribute to faster playerbase burn out.
Look, I understand making games is hard ya know? But honestly, it was kinda hard to accept only having 3 Strongholds at launch. But now? it feels like theres only 1 half the time. If Bosses had unique loot tables, with special unique guns and equipment, this would give people all the motivation they need to run other Strongholds.

I agree that if we are going to have excessive loading screens (working as intended), it would be nice if they were interactive or at least informative.
Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 have the best loading screens ever. You can practice your moves/combos while waiting. Hell even the early Assassin's Creed's loading screens allowed you to run around the matrix/animus loading area while waiting for the load to complete.
Failing this, how about finally creating a character stat screen and just show that to us during the load. I've seen quite enough of the 3 or 4 pictures that they have for loading screens.

Don't forget to look for "Support Luck" upgrade bonus stats on gear and weapons to help increase chances for more quality colored gem drops.
Not sure if "Supply Drop Rate" increases amount of gems dropped or just stuff like hearts and ammo.
