One of the things I find really frustrating is being in a downed state. (Yes, yes, I'm trying to git gud. ) 1) You don't know if someone is ever going to rescue you, especially in freeplay. 2) The other players often don't notice you are down.
3) If they notice it can be impossible to be reached in a timely fashion -- if ever. (If you are in a hidden dungeon they may never find the entrance.)
4) Respawning takes you somewhere far away and it can be difficult to get back to the fight. (This seems to be improved because I didn't respawn on the wall of Tarsis today.)
5) You can do nothing while down. 6) Even more loading screens.
Some suggestions for improvement (compiled from the community):
1) A limited number of revive packs (ala ME3MP). This would be the ideal solution, IMO. Faye reboots the freelancer's javelin in the prologue, so it's lore compliant. Also, no loading screen.
- This could be through gear or consumables. - Crafted or bought.
2) The ability to send up a flare or SOS that notifies the other players that you are down, and a way for them to let you know they are attempting to reach you. (I know VOIP exists, but no one is using it.)
- Or at least your cypher telling you someone is in trouble.
3) The ability for other players to teleport to your location (be careful of revive piles if they teleport in to the turret's line of fire) or at least to the same map.
- Waypoint markers to lead them to you if they signal they are on their way may also be necessary. - Once per (time interval depending on loyalty) an NPC from the fort spawns to revive you. - Incentivize revival. (And please not an achievement for reviving 500X.)
4) Respawning on the battlefield in a sheltered location or on the edge of the map you died on so it's easy to resume the fight.
5) The ability to crawl to cover while downed. 6) The ability to spectate others while downed. 7) The ability to open the map/menu and rage quit freeplay/the game.
Adding suggestions from others.

Like the idea of both flares & revive packs, as well as being able to crawl into cover.
Give the player a limited number of these, say 5 & they can be easily bought from the shop for a small amount of coin to replenish whenever needed.
Just a thought.

- Your cypher alerts you of downed Freelancers just as they alert you of world event objectives. - A self-repair gear item, good for one (or more depending on quality/rarity) self-repair(s) at the cost of one gear slot. - Once per (time interval depending on loyalty level), an NPC from a Fort Tarsis faction spawns near you to repair you.

The 30 second load screen when you respawn is triggering. How you can't just respawn like in destiny is baffling.

First thing would be to enable escape key/ menu again. That's really a no brainer to have players not alt-f4 to quit a match.

Imo, in freeplay there should just be a respawn. I don't know why it has to be so prohibitive.

Thanks for the ideas -- I'm adding them to the OP.

The ability to open the fucking pause menu and quit the fucking game while downed. Exactly this. Also, I did once, in that completely broken quickplay, got looped countdown after completing mission followed by “searching for server” that had to be dealt with through task manager. It broke Anthem so much it showed me as level 1 aftewards.

I don't see anything that'll help players want to revive you, when you're down there's a red marker on you as is. The issue is no one wants to, especially if they are a good distance from you (I can absolutely say I won't go out of my way to do it👍, I've done it various times and I don't expect others to do it for me either). If I'm in the area then why not, but if there's a mountain or 2 separating us you'd be on your own.
I think you'd have to put in revive incentives to get a few players to try more.

I found a solution to the problem - I don't get shot 😂 It's the only way right now. I usually get defeated last.
Because I know how crappy it is I make it a priority to revive people ASAP. Unless they die in the wide open field with every enemy standing nearby. I am not going to suicide getting you up. Die in a safe spot! 😂

Could also make that consumables you bring into the field; like a revive pack to get up from one down or something. If they implement some sort of ping system as they said they are doing, I can see ideas like this happening.

Take it as a given that no one is going to save you in freeplay and you can get back to grind quicker.

What is the game design reason behind being unable to self-revive? Is it to encourage team play?

4 improvements in my book to remediate this frustration: 1) be able to launch flares (similar to the emote) which give other players in the immediate vicinity a waypoint on the rader. 2) be able to crawl behind cover 3) give me more liberal control over the camera so I can survey (and enjoy) the battlefield going on without the gruesome redness. 4) allow me to open the menu.
Also, for load screens, only really one improvement (besides shortenign them, but one XB1X it's pretty okay): 1) let me be able to read the codex entries of my choice.

On occasion, I get Faye telling me a lancer is down in freeplay … but unless they are right there, in my 360 field of view … I have no idea where they are and no ability to go find them in order to revive them.
To me, this is an absurd flaw in game design. As OP says, either give us revive packs or give us some way to know where the other lancer is, that needs to be revived.
Prefer both.
BioWare … pls.

I hate to say this because it's the sort of thing that tends to induce rage, and understandably so - but I've been thinking it for several days, so I'll just put it out there.
I can't help but wonder if the master plan involves introducing rezz packs (and/or flares) into the mtx store at some point. It's no secret that games of this nature want to monetize anything they think the player base will accept. By waiting awhile, people will acclimate to their absence and are more likely to see later additions as inessential add-ons that are simply nice to have, thus it's easier to swallow being asked to pay extra for them.
Another possibility is that they'll make them craftable with high-level materials. That would help give players who are already well-kitted out something else to do with the mats.
I've seen quite a few vids of people doing solo runs in ME3MP and MEAMP. It's a thing a lot of players will strive for, but it's nigh impossible without the ability to self-rezz.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, as long as "coin" works, I'd be fine with that. I've got a lot of coin that has not been used … probably won't be used … unless there is something I want, that I can purchase with it.
I'm happy with the scrubby appearance of my lancers (it's intentional … head canon and all), so for me, the coin just builds with nothing to spend it on.
Eventually, might spend some on crafting materials … have not needed to yet … so if some of that includes buying revive packs or materials to craft them … cool.
