What if Anders actually was the one who blew up the Temple of Sacred Ashes? "I removed the chance of compromise, because there is no compromise!"

What if Anders actually was the one who blew up the Temple of Sacred Ashes? "I removed the chance of compromise, because there is no compromise!" nah, at worst he was a trend setter
"let's blow things up 'cause we don't agree!" "bad idea" "got a better one?" "nope...let's blow things up"

Question for you Anders peeps. I ran across this mod that adds him as an ambient NPC for Broken Circle. I think the idea is fun and might even use it on some future play. My question is whether Anders, in either DAA or DA2, ever mentions those events like he was there? I've played both several times, but may have missed dialogue, just forgotten, or it might be in his WOT text. I do know that he mentions Uldred in one dialogue as an offhand mention about crazy mages in general, but that could only mean he heard about it. His not mentioning it doesn't necessarily mean anything, of course. It could be an oversight by the devs, or they just might not have seen the potential for including it. OR it could mean that he wasn't in fact there, having run away on one of his many escape attempts.

OR it could mean that he wasn't in fact there, having run away on one of his many escape attempts. I use the mod you pointed to above
and I do believe he mentions being in the Circle Tower during those events
"after my last escape attempt they put me in solitary confinement" (or something to that effect) also he mentions the tower cat (Mr. Wiggums) becoming possessed by a Rage demon who killed several templars before they killed it
Also if you take him along during Enemies Among Us in DA2 he makes a nod toward the events of Broken Circle when Cullen says something about "how trust and leniency can be rewarded" he also makes several nods toward these events in party banter
so yes...I (personally) do think he was in the Circle Tower during the Blight, perhaps he escaped shortly after the Blight, which is why he's in Amaranthine during Awakening

I heard/read somewhere, he was not there (probably he already escaped, but perhaps was in solitary confinement), but I'm not sure. It sure, he knew about what happened, but it not sure, he was there, when it happened. (If the Warden is the Hero of Ferelden perhaps, he told to him, but if the Orlesian Warden went to Amarantine, then this is his own knowledge, or he had other sources...) He mentions the abominations in The Hanged Man, to Émile de Launcet, but just says, that "The Ferelden Circle was more fun, everyone was kissing everyone, thought this was before the abominations." And here's his banter with Sebastian, where he speaks about Uldred, but only tangentially, just because Sebastian mentioned it: Sebastian: You seem very angry. Anders: And here I thought the Chantry was against mind-reading. Sebastian: Did something happen to you in the Circle? I understand there were problems in Ferelden... Anders: Are you saying a mage can only be unhappy in the Circle if demons were involved? No, it's not about Uldred. It's not about being beaten or raped by a templar— that does happen, but I've been fortunate. It' s a larger principle: the freedom every man, woman, and child born in Thedas have as a natural right. Sebastian: You were given to the Circle. I was given to the Chantry. Hawke was driven away from home by the Darkspawn. None of us is free. I don't remember he speaks about Uldred in the Awakening. And here's The World of Thedas' Anders' part.I think, this addon is good, because everything is vague about his timeline (just like almost every timeline in DA...)

also as something (somewhat) unrelated...
I aim to try and romance Anders for the first time once I get around to DA2 (once I've finished my current ME2 run) for those of you who've romanced him before and actually enjoyed him...will someone (like me) who since the release of DA2 has only romanced Fenris (and Isabela) actually enjoy Anders' romance? now I know this is a bit of an odd and perhaps subjective question...but I thought I'd ask it regardless

My personal favourite, but I know, not for everyone. Also depends, what kind of romance you plan with him, which kind of character, etc. His romance can be the most tragic one but has a happy end – for me, it's a happy end romance... Depends on your Hawke. What Hawke's goal? Can Hawke sympathize with his goals? Or reject them? Can Hawke accept him as he is, or rather wants to change him? How does s/he deal with Justice? Accepts him or absolutely refuses his presence? Able to accept his priorities (his purpose will be always the first in his life), or tries to change that? S/He wants peace at all costs, or goes with him to set the world on fire? And also can be an issue, that male or female Hawke: there are some different lines. So: his romance is very rich in emotions (he's very passionate, burns), has many ways. I think absolutely worth it to try.

So: his romance is very rich in emotions (he's very passionate, burns), has many ways. I think absolutely worth it to try. I tend to go with the friendship paths for romances
Generally when I play my Hawke's (at least the female ones) they tend to have the blue personality as their arching type, sprinkled with purple and some red when appropriate for my upcoming Hawke I plan on making her a mage (force mage spec. since I imagine Malcolm also having been one, and the fact Bethany has that spec if she's the surviving sibling), who sympathizes with his struggles as well as his goals.
I'm not sure yet what type of character she will be in the broader lines, but if we grab general D&D moral alignment she is more of a Neutral Good, so she aims to do good even though she makes some mistakes along the way, so though she'd be appalled with his Act 3 action (you know the one) she would stick by him because she knows it's not entirely his fault
I think (at least for my Hawke) Malcolm also taught her to be accepting of everything that goes on around her, this includes spirits and people who are playing host to spirits not sure yet how she'll react to Merrill's use of blood magic (I'm aware Anders is an avid opposer of using those powers), but I do think she'll be accepting of Merrill herself as a person I also think she(Hawke) would view Anders and Justice as two separate people, and converse with and handle them accordingly (I mean...it's how I'd personally handle them )
I know there's some mods that restores some lines for female Hawke, so I plan on using them when I start the playthrough (this one link and this one link)

What if Anders actually was the one who blew up the Temple of Sacred Ashes? "I removed the chance of compromise, because there is no compromise!" Y'know, that could have been a great cliffhanger to leave DA2 on.
Rather than the destruction of the Chantry, what if the group of Templars and Mages who attempted to mutiny in Act 3 hadn't been stopped, leading Meredith to annul the Circle in the belief that her own people were now under the thrall of Blood Mages? The game continues on as before, Hawke having to pick a side and the Gallows incident eventually leading to the Circle's rising up.
The post-credits ending would have Hawke and Varric journeying to Haven to take part in the Conclave (on the side of either Templars or Mages), hoping that peace might be achieved by the Divine and that they might find Anders there, who had gone missing while looking into what the Wardens knew about Red Lyrium. They do indeed Anders already there, giving a similar speech as in the original game (as well as hinting at a mysterious figure he's now working for), right before the Temple of Sacred Ashes explodes.
When we pick up in this version of Inquisition, Anders is revealed to have not been in complete control of his actions during the post-credits scene. While helping Hawke investigate Red Lyrium, he had once again encountered Corypheus and fallen under his influence. He serves as a lieutenant of Corypheus for part of the game, before being freed and taken into custody by the Inquisition.
Despite being unable to control his actions, he admits to the Inquisitor that part of him wanted to destroy the Temple of Sacred Ashes and that Corypheus had gotten the idea from Anders in the first place, after he'd revealed his resentment for the Templars and the Chantry.
