Just now decided to check if there was a solution to this problem, since I like to game and read via listening to YouTube music playlists, and there is. Found this on a reddit thread. Solution is a Chrome app called YouTube NonStop. There's a firefox link too.

Sometimes I like to play games with YouTube running in the background or on another monitor. It's really annoying when it stops playing and I have to alt-tab to get it going again.

I remember having this issue back when I was forced to reinstall Windows last year (every year a new issue it seems...), it's hardware acceleration on Chrome's advanced settings, either that had to be on or off. Not only that, but it also makes videos look like crap at 15fps or something, even though you know the video is at 60.

There's an actual YouTube prompt reminding you if you'd like to continue listening after interrupting. So it's like a built in feature by YouTube to prevent views from non-viewers.
