Good morning, all. I finally finished the main story of ANTHEM yesterday afternoon around 4:30, it took me 42 hours. I thought I would post my own review of the game having now completed the main story.
By and large I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed the main story. The combat is incredible, from the versatility in the flight, to the power and punch of each weapon, to the unique feel of each Javelin. The story was interesting, mysterious, intriguing; I felt as though I laways wanted to find out what happened next and the story kept me hooked from beginning to end. I liked all the characters and even the NPCs, and I was even shocked at (a certain twist), then that shock wore off and it turned to anger, a need to 'get even'. I enjoyed that the story and characters could make me feel such a mix of feelings.
Honestly, my one gripe (and this might not even be a big one, or even valid...If somone else has a different view on this topic or can explain things to me in a different way, I might feel diferently about what I first perceived to be a shortcoming). But, having followed the development from start to finish, watched all the trailers etc (speaking specifically about the LOD trailer)....There was a certain air of mystery, a deep sense of lore and importance to the character of General Tarsis, her Legion of Dawn and specifically her armor set that played out in that trailer. It was talked about in reverence all throughout the game and certain characters seemed to stress the importance of the Freelancer wearing her armor to return to where it all began. The armor was key to success.
Now, to have it stolen and then have to go after the person who stole it....That adds some tension and drama to the mix and it further stresses just how crucial the General's armor is. This is good. My complaint is when you're simply left to "build your own replica". It cheapens the impact of the original, real piece. And further more, you don't even actually need that particular armor set to get back to the Heart of Rage. I played the entire game decked out in the N7 armor set for my Ranger Javelin (and it looked really cool....almost made me nostalgic for Mass Effect and my Cmdr. Shepard ). So the inclusion of the LOD armor sets become merely a cosmetic vanity piece rather than a plot device (especially since you can claim your LOD armor pieces right from the start in the store near the Forge). But again, you're then walking around in a replica, a knock-off. Not the real thing. And I just wish they would have followed through on playing-up the lore and importance of the actual armor, rather than shrugging it off and reducing it all to some cosmetic piece.

Energizer Bunny 211 Are you going to replay the story? I too found it engaging, but the game seems more geared to getting players to start doing end-game activities for weapons and equipment. Anthem definitely could use a New Game+ mode.

Anthem definitely could use a New Game+ mode. I have already begun to replay the story last night, this time I'm going to use a Storm as my main Javelin and choose the opposite conversation choices. I played a brunette my first playthrough (bottom row, middle of the choices) and she looked really good in the N7 Ranger armor. But this time for my second playthrough, I chose the redhead, and I'm going to give her a bit of an attitude.
I totally agree with the New Game+ idea!
I still have plenty of stuff to do with my first Ranger, but I'll enjoy the story again I'm sure.
I'm curious though does anyone else agree with or see my point about the LOD armor and Gen. Tarsis? I think they kinda dropped the ball on that point- not entirely, of course, not totally wasted, but for the importance put upon the armor through lore etc and the stress upon it throughout the story, I think they missed out on really developing it as much as they could have within the story.

Well, don't give up on your first character just yet. The Agent missions continue their own stories for quite a bit, and some new characters show up around the fort for chats.

Yup, we could really use a User Reviews thread. No we don't Basically the user review thread would serve primarily the reviewers, because it'd allow them to vent or squee about a game. There would be little benefit to the consumer who would get little to no information about the game from it. When I look for reviews about a game (if I do anymore) the first ones I discard are the "everything is awesome" and "everything is crap" ones, because they're the ones that tell me the least about the game. The user review thread (for starters) would be full of "I love it all" "I hate it all" opinions. So for a consumer practically useless. Anyway we have a number of threads already to vent or squee about the game.

About Helena Tarsis armor i would not be surprised if down the line we are able to use it or even make a actual replica of it. Check with Yarrow, Brin and Mathias. They all have a few side quests after you finish the main one.
edit:
i stand corrected.

Rep does as my unlocks for the Fort are in place already. Challenge progress carries over.
Pilot story does not, inventory does not(materials do). Now recipes do carry over. So if you can make MW items. You can soon as Forge is unlocked. At lev3 any MW items I make are level 31.

My take on it is that this is ancient armour. I wouldn't expect the armour itself to be as good as the modern armour they have now and, even if it was, it would hardly be treating it with sufficient reverance to put such a valuable antique into the field.
Clearly it had some tech that had been lost to time but but that was a very specific thing and all they really needed to be able to do would be to reverse engineer it.
I ddidn't feel it did a disservice to the importance of Helena Tarsis that we weren't wearing her actual armour. It was her skill and bravery that we were honoring not the specific suit.
In fact I'd have been annoyed if I had to leave behind all my cool customizations or, for that matter, my favoured type of Javelin and be forced to play the game in a particular ancient suit with a particular ancient look.

Spoilers from the story.
Either Owen was lying before about being a amateur pilot when he crashed one of Princess Zinn javelins just waiting for his moment to steal the general's armor, which i wouldn't put past that sociopath liar, or it was really something else to allow him to defeat dozens of dominion troops and save Haluk. But i agree about not being a disservice to Helena Tarsis memory.

While we do use our own Javelin, remember the main component that allowed her to do what she did was in our possession. Hence why Owen failed with the rest of the armor and had to cut ties with the Dominion. Together with both pieces from her suit we were able to replicate that ability.

These are all very good points about Gen. Tarsis and her LOD and even the armor they wore; worth me reconsidering my original stance in my OP.
