Anthem has been received really poorly - like way worse than I ever imagined to the point I am slightly stunned tbh. I think they're done, just don't know it yet.
I'm sure your opinion differs, so do tell!

Those poll options... *snigger*
I'm a little stunned too. I didn't think it would sink so badly, be in such a poor state on release, or become another target for the internet to hate on.....but here we are. I doubt Anthem can recover, it'd be wonderful if it could but I would assume the horse bolted long ago and most won't care if it improves now.
Both Anthem and MEA leave me very hesitant about DA4, I'm assuming it'll be ruined somehow which will hopefully leave me pleasantly surprised if it's good.
I can't help but feel that with ME in hiatus, Anthem dropping like a stone and DA in such early stages, this would be a pretty good time for EA to cut and run. I won't be surprised if they do that, but I hope they'll be thinking of DAI's success and will be waiting for it's successor first. So I voted that they'll survive and make DA4.

I think this might actually be it for Bioware. Can't say I really mind at this point. If DA4 is supposed to be another Frostbite open world game, don't bother in any case...

I was hoping for better than the lamentable poll, but ok....
I would have gone for the option, 'after a shaky start, the game will do great and more GAAS features are a cert for DA4 and beyond'.
150 hours in, the game is awesome, but the bugs have been disappointing. Good that most are now resolved.

I think this might actually be it for Bioware. Can't say I really mind at this point. Same here, and that upsets me the most. I'm just not that bothered anymore as they're not the BioWare who made DAI (at least by the evidence of the last 2 games). I got so much from them, I adored DA and ME. Those games meant a lot to me and were one hell of a distraction from real life. I was also excited to find a new dev to follow. It led me to the official forums, then here, where I made friends, became a god on high and then met my boyfriend. BioWare has given me so much but now they leave me a little numb.

They will survive and make DA4. It will be a mobile visual novel with premium mtx conversation options. "Buy 3 -Option answers for $7.99 now! ($9.99 VALUE!)" I want Dragon Age 4 to be an awesome single player game, but I think we know how EA feels about that kind of game. I'm also stunned by the bareboned mess Anthem turned out to be and the reception it got. The pre-release livestreams had already given me a sinking feeling that it wouldn't be good, and I was gobsmacked by the public beta. It felt like a game made by people who don't understand looter-shooters but were told to make one anyway and then tried to do that in two years or less. This is clearly not what they needed after the problems with Mass Effect Andromeda. I have no idea what the future looks like for BioWare - I suppose we'll have to wait and see how good their support for Anthem will be. I wouldn't be surprised if their roadmap is to reality what the Anthem E3 trailer was to the finished game. Suspicion: BioWare may be dead already but is somehow still limping forward. Conclusion: Zombies.

I do think this is most likely. However, I have fear of the end. Not that I would mourn overmuch at this point, as we have become estranged over the last 3 titles, but... They were very close to me once, I loved their products for many years and dedicated enormous amounts of time to them and their respective communities. If current BioWare resembled more the BioWare I knew and loved, I would be up in arms. As it stands, I've never seen less of this forum defending BioWare and that is hugely telling. A milestone has passed, one way or the other. We hold out hope for a shockingly good DA4, but only the most hardcore of us will preorder it now, rather waiting for initial reviews and assessing the state of the game at release before committing... They have alienated their core. Which brings me back to the end. If DA4 happens, it must be good. Otherwise, Kobayashi Maru. Edit: for sofa so he can feel like he and others have voice in this poll, I will add options.

I'm sure your opinion differs, so do tell! I saw you voted for the Casey option. I actually think this is Aaron Flynn's fault, not Casey's. It seems telling that Casey returned and Aaron left right as Anthem publicity began in earnest in summer 2017. Andromeda went off the rails under Aaron's leadership, and it seems clear that years of Anthem development time had to be thrown out the window, which again would have been under Aaron. It makes more sense that Casey was brought in to try to salvage something that was floundering. Casey gets a bad rap for the ME3 ending, but it's really just the result of one bad judgment call in response to a leak. Casey's strong vision is the guiding force for some of Bioware's best work, i.e. most of the ME trilogy and KOTOR. I don't think he's really to blame here.

6 years of development.... Division 2 will pull the plug. D2 will pull the plug on BioWare? Because it becomes a smash success? Possible, I suppose. I am not sure that game's success will have too much bearing on Anthem's lack thereof unless D1 was an internal benchmark to "beat".

He and Mac are my least favorite game devs ever. Like, no. Just no. I changed it though. I think they're dead and just don't know it yet. Quietly they will go, and it may take longer than usual, but the first shovel-full has been dug.

But, to your point, Aaron Flynn oversaw both "ME:A's" mixed reception and "Anthem's" troubled development so it's likely that, at some point, he got in over his head and it cost them BioWare Montreal. I wouldn't doubt part of Casey's return was to salvage what they could of "Anthem" for a 2018 Financial Q4 release and get studio headed on the right track.

And to give some ground myself, I'll make the observation that no game should launch in the state this one did.
It's only the joy of the underlying gameplay and the future story/gameplay potential that has carried me through.

I personally can't tell if the games dead or dieing. All of my friends are still playing it and liking it and outside of quickplay still being wonk, its feeling pretty good and I'm not getting any long waits for matchmaking. Last patch really improved alot of the games stability overall.
It would be nice if there was a site that kept tabs on the number of people playing daily, something like Destiny tracker for Destiny2.

Yeah, Quickplay is my only complaint at the moment. I get matched pretty easily in "Hard" but GM1 is pretty broken after a finding a few Legendary contracts to reinforce.

Maybe I'm weird, but I thought Bioware's main studio was "diagnosed as terminally ill" with ME2. When the game started with Shep's contrived death, the shoehorning with Cerberus and the general meandering with the main plot, I was positive the Bioware of old was dead.
Looking back, ME3MP was the only pleasant surprise since 2007. It wasn't made by the main studio either. It seems as though EA agreed with me which is why Montreal got MEA. Problem is that the studio didn't have SP or Frostbite experience. They were the wrong studio for the job.
Bioware isn't dead yet, but they've been sick for a very long time.

I think it's GAAS that will rescue Anthem and when DA4 launches, GAAS will keep DA4 relevant. How so? GaaS is the reason there is so little content. I don’t see what positives it brings to the table as far as consumers go. It’s a monetization scheme. Adding content over time has been cited in the past but that means nothing to me. Adding content that was or should have been there at launch is not an appealing factor. Minimum viable product adds nothing for consumers. If they stripped stuff out of a game in order to deliver it in drips and drabs over time as incentive to players to keep playing and paying, this is not an attractive feature for consumers. I don’t want DA 4 to be ‘relevant’. Not sure what you mean. I want it to be a good and complete story.

Playing Mass Effect 2 for the first time made me feel more “what the fuck??” than anything else because the plot pacing felt so duct-taped together, it initially didn’t make much sense to me. Took at least another playthrough or two before I had full comprehension. And you’re right, Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer was a big surprise. It was far from perfect and had its own bugs to deal with, but still somehow managed to be engaging. And it was Bioware Montreal’s work - pretty crazy IMO.
