main thread back up www.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/b6phoj/the_real_reason_for_loot_balance_and_store_issues/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2xthis reddit thread might also be deleted : www.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/b6u6qk/why_anthem_might_be_having_lootstorescaling_issues/article in question www.techpowerup.com/240655/leaked-ai-powered-game-revenue-model-paper-foretells-a-dystopian-nightmare"...An artificial intelligence (AI) will deliberately tamper with your online gameplay as you scramble for more in-game items to win. The same AI will manipulate your state of mind at every step of your game to guide you towards more micro-transactions. Nothing in-game is truly fixed-rate. The game maps out your home, and cross-references it with your online footprint, to have a socio-economic picture of you, so the best possible revenue model, and anti buyer's remorse strategy can be implemented on you. These, and more, are part of the dystopian nightmare that takes flight if a new AI-powered online game revenue model is implemented in MMO games of the near future. ..." "...A paper was leaked out last year discussing a new AI/Telemetry system which would track your actions, location, shopping habits and game playing behavior. It would then use this data to create a "profile" of you as a player, and then dynamically adjust game difficulty, rewards, and other features to encourage you to play more and spend more in the game. If you think about it, a lot of the black box weirdness with Anthem (no player sheet, numbers not meaning much, strange scaling issues) makes a lot more sense if things are being dynamically adjusted by an AI which is profiling you..." original (deleted) post in archive web.archive.org/web/20190329025815/https://www.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/b6phoj/the_real_reason_for_loot_balance_and_store_issues/

and the much more likely scenario .."Never attribute to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence. They made this game with spaghetti code. They made systems more complex than they needed to be and they don't work like they think they do. Worse off they don't have tools to observe the changes they are making. They don't have tools to test loot or damage or damage scaling. They have no idea if an effect is active or not. Or if a piece of equipment is having the effect it should. No player sheet. No cumulative stats like attack power or resistances. No health pool. No shield pool. Just some bars and some pretty graphics. only 8 different guns in the game." www.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/b6phoj/the_real_reason_for_loot_balance_and_store_issues/ejmdxgk?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

If the game can't code the daily news page to not bug out, I don't see how these 'clever AI' systems can be more than a conspiracy theorist's pipe dream.

If you bother to read all the screenshot slides, it's about so much more than MTX in video games. It's utterly horrifying. This is sci-fi dystopia turned reality. No hyberbole here. Mapping your home with wifi waves?? Analyzing your breathing. Installing "legal" tracking software on your phone AND your computer...
I got scared shitless of the future reading this tbh. I'm seriously freaking out here. This will go far beyond simple consumer manipulation into buying useless shit. This is mind control on a whole new level. The media is already fixed. Telling us a specific version of reality. 1984 and Brave New World all in one is upon us. I'm not kidding. This stuff is extremely dangerous.
Read about the latest robot technology used by the military and you can easily see where this could all lead.

This theory is really silly. If the patent were being practiced, it would be in more subtle ways than literally changing your health and shield values, which the playerbase would notice almost immediately (even more subtle implementations would likely be discovered, which is why the patent is generally not practiced). It would be by making the AI slightly more aggressive, for example. That doesn't work in a game where the AI is so dumb that it often does nothing but run in a straight line until it goes out of bounds and suicides.
Also, if the theory were correct that EA is testing the design to see if players notice/react, it wouldn't use an IP with 6+ years of investment from a major studio, let alone incur expenses such as Times Square billboards.
The vast, vast majority of patents are never practiced. Some of them are solely for defensive use (prevent someone else from patenting the tech and using it to extract royalties), and a good chunk of them don't even work. You can find all kinds of garbage in the patent pool if you look hard enough. If you calm down and think about it for even a second, this isn't what's causing Anthem's problem.

You Guys Are Being Bamboozled By The Hacker Known As 4ChanI almost believed it for a moment, but I came to my senses. Because I realized if a company truly existed that could do all of this...we would know about them by now, from somewhere more reliable. Like the Blackwater Company, no one ever sees them, but we know they actually exist, or at least did at one time.

It fits things that happen in the game, gives an explanation to Bioware screw ups many players can relate to and voila... The AI conspiracy got debunked too fast though, I had so much fun reading through it.

LOL,
Not above reality... but not at the moment. Bio can't code for beans with the bug infested game, let alone a working AI routine that can reward you by manipulating loot tables.
Though with the game metrics EA is currently recording a simple table driven AI can trigger a loot drop. The drop can be inserted at judicious points.
For example:
Hours played continuously | Loot Drop Reward | < 1 hour | Common | > 1 but < 2 | Uncommon | > 2 but < 3 | Rare | > 3 but < 4 | Epic + Rare
|
You can also drop say four items on hour four. Say rare+epic+rng legendary. On hour five, drop Ember loot. This AI is unsophisticated. It's a simple IF this Then that. Nevertheless, it's quite easy to do. Keep a separate Reward Table easily updated via a on-the-fly reward server and you are good to go. The game simply queries the on-the-fly server once every, say, 12 min and whatever item it receives it gives it to the player as a loot drop.... somewhere in the action. Devs can update the table at any time.
Loot content being so misery, I doubt this will work as intended. The reward must be suitable to the difficulty the gamer experiences...

Indoctrination Theory is still my headcanon. I wish Bioware would use it to move forward with Mass Effect in the Milky Way. Or rather, I wish Bioware had done that instead of producing Andromeda. Because I don't want them to touch Mass Effect ever again at this point.

My favorite comment in the thread is the one about how Bioware was trying to warn us with the Andromeda Initiative (A.I.). To be perfectly fair, Bioware likes to write grand gnostic tales about these kinds of themes. Indoctrination, mind control, slavery, a.i., old gods, magical mind control, conspiracy theories, etc. Anthem is no different with its story, they've even kept up the tradition of having a conspiracy/dooms day character preaching in the street (and it's background lore about shapers is as great as always). Conspiracy theories gain traction because they seem to explain everything neatly in a chaotic time... and we are definitely living in chaotic times. Fake news, post truth, internet rage culture, etc. In terms of technology and psychological manipulation, I'd be far more worried right now about our addiction to 'like' buttons, 'memes' and 'shares' and all the echo chambers we are setting ourselves up for.
