Guess no one remembers the fully-clothed sex scenes from Dragon Age 1&2 and ME 2&3. I mean c'mon now. Who doesn't get all hot and bothered when they see their partner taking a shower with their underwear on? Let's face it: sex scenes in video games are just overall cr*p.
As a game designer for a sex scene, what points need to be addressed before getting the approval from mgt?
(1) lawsuits (2) target audience (3) accidental underage kids
(4) other
Then there is the review of the scenes with your co-workers to get heir response....

Or it means the nudity in Cyberpunk 2020 will be “covered.” In DMC, they used bright lights to cover the character’s naked bodies. They have already said that cyberpunk 2077 will have full frontal nudity.
I think what he meant to say is that the game will be tailored to local laws / console policies. Thus, full frontal in Europe, tiny band aids in the US and big X in strategic locations in Japan.....

I thought the same until I romanced Josephine and realized how much I missed seeing a little naked flesh. She doesn't even show you so much as an ankle.
That was a romance? Perhaps in the Victorian era?
In the Victorian era? Showing ankle? I could never romance such a trollop. Hmph.

Romance =/= sex. Sure they often go together, but they are not the same thing at all.

I dont think that Playstation's policy is going to affect the content of games in a way that "Western" audiences would even notice. More likely they're simply going to stop publishing the weird niche shit coming out of Japan that won't get classification in international markets anyway. Anything with depictions of "sexual violence", or sex featuring underage characters, will be refused classification in Australia, and PEGI doesn't have content descriptors for that kind of content, so it probably doesn't fly in Europe either.
Sony is just trying to maximise profits by not spending money on freaky fetish games that won't get a broad international audience
And frankly, good riddance. That stuff is fucking awful anyway.

I don’t recall if some devs stated otherwise, but isn’t Josephine’s romance left up to the player’s imagination in regards of her and the Inquisitor having sex or not?

This thread really highlights the main difference between European & American attitudes towards sex & Nudity as well as violence, but, the question I have to ask is, why do Sony feel the need to do this? Maybe because they distribute content worldwide and are thus required to monitor the content they offer to meet local standards? It's not nearly as simple as you apparently believe it to be. They have already said that cyberpunk 2077 will have full frontal nudity.
I think what he meant to say is that the game will be tailored to local laws / console policies. Thus, full frontal in Europe, tiny band aids in the US and big X in strategic locations in Japan.....
Thank you. Someone actually understands that standards vary, and platform manufacturers need to meet quite a variety of them throughout the world. It isn't always about sex and violence, either, though those particular areas get the most attention. Australia initially refused to classify Fallout 3 for reasons having to do with drug use; Bethesda made some changes to get it into compliance. That said, whatever Sony is up to needs to be clarified. It goes without saying, but given the wide variance of local laws and some inconsistencies in their application, navigating all of that probably keeps lawyers awake at night.

Honestly... I'm indifferent regarding how the love scenes are presented; a simple fade to black would be fine by me. I thought the same until I romanced Josephine and realized how much I missed seeing a little naked flesh. She doesn't even show you so much as an ankle. I loved her romance! That scene by the fireplace, just cuddling and talking was a far more intimate scene than the sex scenes, IMO. We need more Josephine style romances. It was so nice to have a romance that wasn't based around completing steps to pound town. I found Josephine's romance very emotionally engaging. 10/10, will romance again next playthrough. But, different strokes...

As usual the games that get "censored" will just become more popular. Sadly for Sony those sales will be on other platforms. Much the same way I first discovered Bioware. I had never played any of their previous games (I have since) and had never even heard of Bioware till I saw a news report about a video game allowing the player to have "the lesbian sex" with "humanoid blue aliens" and how it was all horrible and ruining our children. I thought "Sounds Awesome!". Ran right out to buy Mass Effect for the first time, and the rest was history as they say. I'm reminded of this old gem (sorry for poor vid quality, but it is an old story):

I’m not asking for Hard Dicking 3: All Holes Filled with Cum, I’d just like the romance to be about 10 per cent naughtier.

For me it was a breath of fresh air to have a romance that had zero naked flesh that had me emotionally engaged. Even more so than the romances with flesh and sex scenes. Not every romance should have an implication that sex took place, IMO. Not every romance needs that. Josephine's didn't, imo. Not everyone cares about seeing flesh, or sex scenes, so having at least one without flesh and sex is a good thing. TBH I think the sex scenes in Dragon Age games are kind of silly. I'd rather have a romance like Josephine's. I'm hoping DA4 has at least one romance like it.

Why does Sony think it's their job to babysit adults? They can get fucked.
Because kids are their real target audience and they are trying to cover their asses?
Back in the 80's and 90's I would say you are right that kids were the target audience but now a days you have people of all ages and men and women playing video games and have games marketed torwards them. If a parent has a problem with a game then don't buy it for their kids or make sure your kid doesn't have that type of game. Look at the game rating and if you see M then don't let little timmy play it.
Personally I think some of those japanese games needed to be censored since you should not have characters that look like pre teens dressed like some of those games have them dressed. However if we are talking about adults being nude or something in games I don't see the problem.

No they did that with the first witcher but they didn't in the Witcher 2 or 3.
In the witcher 1 the characters geralt slept with gave him "cards" that had their picture naked on it. The amercican version of the game had them clothed to a degree. They released a mod themselvs that changed it to the original if the american audience wanted it. I think for the most part most people that would actually buy the game aren't the ones who will complain about the game but people who wouldn't buy it either way. So the game companies don't pay attention to it like they used to and given how many games have nudity in them now the News barely bothers with it anymore.
When ME1 came out it was in 2006 and there weren't a ton of sex in games like that. Now there is.

Not to be that guy but bioware has a pretty liberal audience and most of the people (not all) who do that on here are just trolling. I personally don't mind how they did it in DAi and MEA but I kinda like how certain characters can only romance certain genders. If it wasn't for the romances I probably wouldn't have played as male shep more then once. Although if they are gonna have asari romances with both genders they need to make the sex scenes different for each gender or that it would fit with each one. Liara's sex scene in ME3 was clearly made for a male shep and it kills the immersion for fem shep.

Don't they complain that other people complain about everything and are offended by everything. Yet they call other people snow flakes The real irony is that this entire fucking forum turns into Fox News if you suggest that BioWare's LGBT content should increase. Increase to the point of being exactly as or even more prevalent than classic M/F content, and that anyone with second thoughts about the notion must be a bigot and deserves to be left by the wayside, yup, if you're referring to some of the arguments I've seen. Not quite the same idea. On the other hand, the forum also sometimes seems to turn into a college campus playground the second someone suggests that exploring more traditional or old-fashioned values in games would be interesting as well. One might almost imagine that these are big topics deserving careful and measured reflection, but that people have a tendency to reduce and whine about them rather than try to discuss them like adults. But wouldn't that be silly and undignified?
