MDK2 was also pretty highly rated as well. Far better reviews than what we got with Anthem. For its time, it was a good game. I still have the cdrom of the PC version. Different strokes and the like, but Anthem is an objectively worse game. I can't see how anyone could enjoy playing a game where your stats don't matter, bugs are rampant, loot is broken, there is no progression system at all. The devs themselves don't understand how the stats effect gameplay. Every patch breaks more things. Anthem is a nightmare and I truly feel pity on those at Bioware Austin who have to deal with this mess. Objectively worse is a gross misnomer. Honestly what you describe is why I don't understand folks who obsess over min-maxing and character builds in games, that includes rpgs, seems like a wasted endeavor to worry about. Plus folks can find enjoyment in simple things beyond builds of a character. For me I quite enjoyed the lore and I really play freeplay the most for a few hours as a relaxer from work. There is no denying the problem with progression but it is also one part of the whole. Objectively bad games are the likes of big rigs or ride to hell, broken and I iredeemable in every way outside of comedy factor and ironic enjoyment Or all of that z grade shovel ware on steam. it is subjective opinion that you are employing to argue it as factual in the end. And speaking as someone who moonlights as a critic, reviews do matter but they are also subjective takes on the product at hand. Games I don't like for design reasons or story or game play like call of duty or dark souls or whay not are examples of that, I would rate them in the 7 range personally. It is always a matter of taste. What matters is how I back it up to explain why, the rigor of the writing to point out the opinions.

I would argue that someone somewhere absolutely loves Ride to Hell Retribution. I could argue that I find Anthem irredeemable in every way outside of comedy factor and ironic enjoyment.
Are there worse games than Anthem? For sure. I just don't expect it from Bioware (perhaps I should from now on).

That's fair you don't like it, don't get me wrong on that point. But calling irredeemable is where that is subjective when there is clearly artistry at work in the game. I'm just pointing out the absurdity of objectivity here basically being used as a critique, when it only carries weight towards actual irredeemable products. The worst of the worst out there, which anthem is not.

I shouldn't have said objectively worse. Agreed.
I never said Anthem is the worst out there. I said it's Bioware's worst game (which breaks my heart). For the record, I don't think it's irredeemable, but they may run out of time before fixing the game. I think the problems run too deep into the DNA of the game and nothing short of a full re-write of major parts of the game will suffice. This just doesn't seem too feasible considering it's precipitous drop in player population (back on point of the thread!). EA and Bioware are likely looking at how they can bring the game to a slightly better place and then wind down production and support until they can ultimately pull the plug some years down the line. There won't be (or at least shouldn't be) an Anthem 2. I think this new IP is dead in the water.
And calling it the Dylan of videogames is extremely presumptuous or Bioware seriously undervalues what Bob Dylan meant to music and culture.

If this wasn't a high end project with a ten year outlook then the player base leaving/dropping wouldn't be an issue. Anthem is a big budget project that currently has players leaving in droves and while you have loyal players that will see Anthem through the rough times, Anthem needs an adequate player base to sustain it. Patches and updates are not cheap....creating those new strongholds require resources and money.
Of course maybe Anthem will garner monetary rewards on the backend of this..but going by what we are seeing currently? That embarrassing livestream, the current scenario of them trying to find talent to fix their loot system, delays of future content and the miss-steps that have happened previously?......it still looks and feel like the staff is running around without a clue.
Its still early, but Anthem has been hit with problems since day 1....the only saving grace for Anthem is that folks like the core mechanic of the game which is its playability.....and right now despite its issues, people like how the game plays....they get enjoyment out of it, so that can sustain the game until the staff gets its act together...if the gameplay was crappy combined with all of these other issues, Anthem probably would have gone the way of Andromeda in terms of support....

Where is the horse and the rider?
Where is the horn that was blowing?
They have passed like rain on the mountains,
like wind in the meadow.
The days have gone down in the West,
behind the hills... into Shadow.

I'm bored of it. Doing same crap over and over for pretty much nothing. I can only do that for so long. So went back and playing WoW where the little time I do play and it is moving a few of my characters forward. Same here and funny since BFA is currently under fire for its boring, grindy content

And calling it the Dylan of videogames is extremely presumptuous or Bioware seriously undervalues what Bob Dylan meant to music and culture. That's just what they called it during development, continuing on the "great music artists" theme. Nothing presumptuous or even wrong in aiming to make the "Dylan" of video games.

Then again there are people that delude themselves into having fun with Fallout 76 so make of it what you will. Well, usually I just ignore the opinions of those who matter the least to the hobby or personal enjoyment of said hobby. Especially when it's hard to get true critique now a days when everything is infested with personal punditry. I've kind evolved to the point of only listening to closed or academic style critiques. Everything else is noise that's cool to discuss but I don't really take seriously.

Anthem boys, Anthem boys Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do When Division and Warframe come for you Play anthem? Indeed I'm not interested in Div 2 or Warframe the only reason I've not played Anthem lately is I've just been too busy with other things not because I've got any particular issues with the game.

We enjoy the broken mess. Don't mean it ain't broken. Although, I must abject against "rampant bugs", it really isn't that buggy anymore. Although they usually do break more than they fix The only main issue (besides content, but that's a whole other story - pun intended -) is the loot. And that also affects stats not mattering, and no progression. Nightmare, as in, for PR and bioware as a whole? Yes. Nightmare, as in, a nightmare of a game? Nah. It's good, simple fun. Also, due to the whole silent treatment, I must admit I am getting more annoyed by the not knowing what they're up to and if they ever are going to fix their mess.

No problem on Legendary missions, FreePlay and Strongholds. Normal contracts I soloed one (on GM2) and on GM1 I got full lobby after a minute. I seem to have same problem on MEAMP and Anthem - in the beginning of the game/if I get disconnect, I cannot "see" the players for some time. No idea why, it wasnt like this before. fex. friends have a place in their platinum lobby, I click join - in theory it should point to their lobby, but I usually get just long time before it shows me empty lobby. Later on this works as intended but not immediately when I've started the game. I'm thinking some proxy got over zealous or something... (rant over)
