and the game servers at EA are so outdated that the game is often unplayable due to lag Never had any lag problem with Anthem whatsoever - in fact not with any Origin game for quite a while now. Such problems may as well be caused by your ISP, etc. It might help you to look for Firewall ports to open for EA services (quite a few). I had a ton of lag, every day for the first 2 weeks, until I finally got my ISP and EA on the phone/text. Found out I was missing a ranged open port, 21000-26000. Once I added that to my open route table the lag disappeared.

It's so annoying when you want to play with a team and the game hardly finds other players. And on the other hand you have no option to play strongholds solo and exclude randos from joining. I really want to do stronghold solos but the furthest I got so far in GM2 was to the second chest in ToS. I thought Bioware changed that people won't join a game in progress after a few minutes but someone dropped into my game right after the second chest and that was the end of my solorun <iframe width="23.960000000000036" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 23.960000000000036px; height: 3.5600000000000023px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_98905471" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.960000000000036" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1138px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_58774844" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.960000000000036" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 118px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_71229623" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.960000000000036" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1138px; top: 118px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_90971097" scrolling="no"></iframe> I was able to run the first couple of story missions solo and then at some point it wouldn't let me. No matter if I set it that way it always ended up saying I couldn't do it. Bad choice on BioWare's part. There should at least be an option to play any mode solo. Equally as strange is the option is in the pre-launch set of selections, but it certainly doesn't work.

I do regret coming into this thread, but I will give my two cents. Any game in this genre has a die off after a month or two because there are people that play to the end of the story content and then leave. People here have said people have moved onto The Division 2 and that is probably true when it was released, but right now the Division 2 is having its own problems with delaying the raid and Title Update 3. You can see similar comments for it on Reddit as Anthem with people saying they are done with the game for there is nothing to do. Now could it be worse for Anthem of course, but as long as there is a playerbase that can sustain updates even if they do become less frequent due to a smaller playerbase I don't see how it won't continue. I think there is evidence that even with a small group of people playing the game EA will support it because they are still supporting The Old Republic and it doesn't have a very large audience anymore either and it didn't have a very successful launch. I'm curious, why would you regret coming into a particular thread? Is it due to the overall negative comments in a lot of the treads on this forum or something else? I'm genuinely interested in knowing. I understand your point about games having a die off period but sometimes they have a resurgence as well. The last couple of nights I went back into Ghost Recon Wildlands to play the free DLC missions that came out. I really hope BioWare/EA figure out a way to improve Anthem to draw some players back. If Bungie/Activision can do it with Destiny then it is possible. I just thought of something. Does anybody on here know why BioWare put a hold on the roadmap for Anthem? I've searched the forums and watched content creators try and explain it but nobody is saying "why" they did it, just that it was announced they were doing it.

I've searched the forums and watched content creators try and explain it but nobody is saying "why" they did it, just that it was announced they were doing it. BioWare announced it's roadmap February 6th, just before launch. In part because there was a great deal of screaming from the internet that there be one to address 'endgame'. Post-launch there were clearly many more bugs than BioWare expected or would want to admit, requiring resources to be re-allocated to bug fixing. Consequently, the new content wasn't ready and they had no choice but to announce a delay.

Does anybody on here know why BioWare put a hold on the roadmap for Anthem? They released a half broken, buggy, glitchy piece of shit that wasn't worth price tag for a AAA game. Once that exploded in their face, well they are incompetent so they presumably just assumed it would blow over and when it didn't and the complaints didn't stop they probably realized they needed to fix it. But by that point their own road map had become something of a joke because they abandoned it immediately. So if I had to give a singular reason? Its because BioWare assumes its garbage will sell despite issue, because that thing did not launch in a acceptable state and they pushed it out anyway. In my humble opinion? They've more then earned every bit of scorn and contempt directed at them.

I figure part of it is because they have to devote some of the resources to fixing the game. No use throwing more content on top of broken core systems. But they are also probably taking a hard look at how many people are playing the game, and deciding if it's worth it to devote those resources.
They were looking to hire a loot designer, and an item creator, so they haven't completely given up on the game. But this could also mean they have to re-design huge parts of the game, maybe from the ground up. If that wasn't in the initial budget you have to move some things on your internal road map back, replace them with the re-work, and work what you delayed back into the budget at some future date.
I figure they'll fix the game, see how many people come back to play it, and then decide if it's worth it to release additional content.
This is the probably the same thing they did with Andromeda. The player base wasn't there to justify DLC after they fixed the game so they killed, and now we'll see what happens with Anthem.

How is Stellaris? I've been think of picking it up on steam, does it play more like CK2 or EUIV? You should try it. It's one of Paradox's hits:
1. Beautiful graphics with titanic battles of fleets consisting of thousands ships, like in Total War you have both strategic and tactical layers. 2. Empire-building - you can make a democratic utopia where all aliens will want to emigrate to your shining beacon in the ruthless galaxy or you can rule with iron fist and enjoy creating a brutal tyranny with purges and gulags. 3. Strong diplomacy with military alliances and they even have a Federation there. 4. There are interesting late game events including the Shadow - Vorlon war from Babylon 5.
5. Paradox changed quite a bit with their huge update and it plays like a new game with completely new planetary interface and hyper travel.
Hmmm, after watching a few YouTube videos I think I'm going to pick it up and recreate the Imperium of Man

Waste of time to participate in those types of threads because nothing constructive happens.

Because reading the title I felt it would be either bickering or people making statements that the way they feel about the game is the only way to feel about it. Waste of time to participate in those types of threads because nothing constructive happens. I understand. My intention with the post was to ask a legit question about where everyone had gone. I came back to the game after one of the big updates to "fix" some of the issues. As I explained my experience was strange as I seemed to be the only one playing during that night. I really wanted to get back into it to get to level 30 and move into GM difficulty. People do seem to be on one end of the spectrum or the other as far as their thoughts on the game. You're always going to have that in forums. I like it actually and I guess my opinion might have changed if I had max'd to level 30 and had gotten heavy into the end game. I played for a couple hours again last night. Based on suggestions in this thread I lowered the difficulty to "normal". I played 6 missions, 4 with my Storm and 2 with my Ranger. Out of the 6 I ended up playing 2 by myself, 1 where somebody came in by just walked around not doing anything, and 3 where I had 1 other person helping me. Again, my goal is to get from level 24 to 30. It goes pretty slow when I'm the only one launched into these missions. It's even worse in the strongholds so I don't bother with those based on what I guess is a lack of players. You mention you don't like participating in these type of threads due to nothing constructive coming out of them. What would be an example of constructive thought with regard to Anthem in it's current state? I think most have already been stated in this and other threads. From my experience it would require a complete reboot. The story is disjointed. I ended up completing it not really understanding what was happening. I'd get launched into missions where players would rush to the waypoints and I'd end up getting blasted to where they were. The only issue with this is I had no option to go in alone at the beginning save for the first 2 missions. Loot is obviously another issue. They didn't want to talk about Destiny, but most of the upper end weapons there do have a personality. None of the weapons I've gotten in Anthem have any semblance of personality or originality. I understand they put the focus on abilities but since we have weapons, make them mean something and be unique. My issues at launch have all been addressed, lag, not loading 100 percent, game glitching out every 4-5 minutes, etc., so things have gotten better. I really hope they sort things out. It looks like they are.

I didn't find the story disjointed but then, the first time round, I did all the missions solo, specifically because I wanted to follow the story at my own pace. The only thing you're forced to do with others is Strongholds and Freeplay (and Freeplay is effectively solo anyway).
The game has an unfortunate habit of insisting Public expeditions are better and sometimes switching the setting back to public when you don't want it to. But all you have to do is switch it back to Private before launching the mission and you can solo it fine.

It's not a port issue. I made sure all the required ports were open on day 2 because the game was locking up and crashing due to lag.
The problem is Bioware gave us a crap game. I'm not even close to being in the minority on this. For a concept that could have easily been a Destiny killer, they screwed the pooch. The game is clunky at best, and the scope of the game is so narrow that players often lose interest before even reaching level 30. On top of that is the loot tables, crappy freeplay, and a VERY short contract rotation. Players expect new titles to have lots to do and plenty of people to do it with, which is definitely not the case with Anthem.
Honestly, they should have scrapped the game as originally intended.

Their netcode is garbage. That much is obvious with all the connectivity problems they continue to have.

Hmmm, I'll have to try that. I know I'd switch it to solo and then at launch it'd be matchmade. I never went back to switch it again. Thanks for the tip.

I just want them to tell me how in the world the game could have gotten through any amount of play testing but still made the launch date. Based on the way the game launched, for me, that would seem impossible. I remember in Jason's article where one of the testers said he couldn't do any online testing due to their network always being down. Testing primarily offline is just a waste of time for a game like this. The demo was horrendous and the launch wasn't that much better. There should have been some exec's that were forced to resign. It couldn't have been a proud BioWare and EA moment.

My theory is they figured it will take either another couple of years of work to bring it in an acceptable state or they had to start from scratch. Neither of those was in the cards and they just threw out what they had with a big PR campaign, which probably was cheaper and brought in about the same initial sales as a complete product. I doubt any further investment will be made to revive/relaunch/fix this game as it is expensive and will require too much effort for too little gain. Best that can happen is "Anthem 2" with the content that was promised in the bullshit "10 year Anthem plan".

Best that can happen is "Anthem 2" with the content that was promised in the bullshit "10 year Anthem plan". Yeah they probably knew it was going to be in a shitty state. But they also probably had to have a big release for their quarter. But not supporting it anymore? I dunno... As they are apparently trying to up their image, it would be the ultimate faux-pas to now go back on their word. Not that I wouldn't believe it if they did, but that would also be a dumb bussiness move. "Damned if they do, damned if they don't" --> this SO shoudl be bioware's bussiness motto.

Oh, Bioware and EA knew full well they are releasing a crappy fail of a loot less shooter ability spammer. I didn't mean "support". The game can be supported for years in it's current state with minimal bug fixes every couple of months by a couple of poor souls in their garrage. What I doubt to happen is an overhaul of the game that fixes it's core problems instead of just patching them to leak less. It will be easier to make AND sell Anthem 2 instead of putting the same work to fix an already sold game for free. In my "doomsayer" opinion Anthem is headed in one of two directions. MEA treatment (we all know about it) or the latest SWTOR treatment - a Stronghold and some new skill/item every 6-8 months, reusing old content over and over with slightly different rewards and a new small story update after 3 years.

Depends on the difficulty level. I never have those problems with GM1 and rarely on GM2.
You could also try Quickplay as that means you are reinforcing an existing group which, for Strongholds, is highly unlikely to be less than two people before you join.

Kind of like Bungie and Destiny. It's the reason I stopped playing that game, at least until they offer more story mode. Destiny started out not quite as bad as Anthem and they managed to pull themselves back up. I just don't think the multi-year series game design works, at least with the dev/pub's we've seen so far. They all end up releasing a game that's not ready and then patch it up for months thereafter. That formula doesn't work, at least for me. If I can't get people to join via MP I won't be playing Anthem much longer either.

Sad, but everything you said is true. I hope they get it fixed but I think it'll be too late by then. Oh, Bioware and EA knew full well they are releasing a crappy fail of a loot less shooter ability spammer. Best that can happen is "Anthem 2" with the content that was promised in the bullshit "10 year Anthem plan". Not sure, EA and BioWare are insistent in investing in the games future. They need to sure that they care about fixing this game before even thinking about a sequel.

Insistent? Hm... everything is conditional, including continued development. When the online monetisation falls below a threshold, development & support stops. Just look at Andromeda.

So, not only did y'all spend $100 dollars on this, plus whatever microtransactions you all spent, you're gonna have to spend another $100 dollars (and again, some microtransactions) for the original story that you were promised. Great. Great design. A+ BioWare. Would buy again. I enjoy taking my money and flushing it straight down a toilet.
