Just watched HBO's official video of the making of Season 8 Episode 3. It's forty minutes long!
For the last 2 minutes they use the Mass Effect 3 theme.
Don't know how HBO got the rights to this or is there a fire sale going on at Boiware?

The Mass Effect 3 OST has been used by various series for years now.

I just finished watching it. It wasn't the main theme it was from the mass effect 3 ending. Love that music, very melancholy and very cool to see it on a Game of Thrones video

It was fitting from my perspective as I'd dubbed S8E2 'Mass Effect 3 - Winterfell DLC'.

Didn't want to make a new thread for this but I do think I also spotted some ME music in Stephen Colbert's show:
At 1:13, that is music from the trilogy, right?

Huh, now that GOT has wrapped up maybe that choice of music was a grim foreshadow. GOT ended as badly as ME3.

IMO GoT ended, last season and all, the exact same way as Mass Effect ended. Once you caught up to the books and couldn't rely on GRRM any longer(Drew Karpysyhn left) you still had good stuff across Season 4 and 5 but the gaps were starting to show (DLC). Then Season 6 and 7 (Mass Effect 3's "90%") started going pretty cheap in various places but still retained a sense of anticipation and hype, but then you got to the last season (Episode 1: Cerberus HQ, Episode 3-8: Priority Earth) and it started falling apart and fans started going "wtf is this?" and then after the ending itself rang hollow people got quite pissed, started doing "Retake" movements and started hosting videos with titles like "Why the last part doesn't work" or "Why franchise was ruined by the ending".

I am so glad I never got invested in GoT. I am also very glad I never got invested in the MCU, past the first Avengers movie. Note: not Captain America: The First Avengers, the literal The Avengers movie. Everything else they got right past that was just a pleasant surprise. Unlike the X-Men, who are my actual favourites.

You can easily invest in GoT and quit after Season 4 or 5. I quit because i lost interest and I still think the first 3 seasons are amazing. But it reaches a point where I felt like "I get it", like, I got what overall direction it was headed in and honestly the ending sort of ended up reaffirming it too. There are various characters that live and then die across the first 3 seasons and you can basically end your investment with the catharsis of one of those arcs closing. That's what I did. The show ran out of the good characters I wanted to follow.

]That seems very topical. But in that I'm also telling you it's worth it while it lasts. If you could feel and know how bad Mass Effect 3's ending was, would, in your current state be happy that you never saw Mass Effect 1 or 2? That's what I mean. As shitty as the bad things in ME3 or Andromeda are they aren't making me think I should've never played the good Mass Effects. It's the same thing.

If you could feel and know how bad Mass Effect 3's ending was, would, in your current state be happy that you never saw Mass Effect 1 or 2? That's what I mean It depends. In spite of all its faults, I love ME2 to death, but the let down of ME3's ending was so overwhelming that it's left me jaded to a lot of things. It has put a very large speed bump to my expectations and has actively hampered my ability to consume and enjoy entertainment media. I didn't even have that high expectations for ME3, to begin with. In the end and on a personal level, I'm not entirely sure it was worth it. Apparently, there's a host of people that feel like that. Each one deals with it in their own way. Some are bitter, others are spiteful, others, like myself, are depressed with the situation and want something to change for the better. Personally, I want healing, for the developer, for the fanbase, for the overall community.

Well, maybe sci-fi fans wouldn't complain if sci-fi authors didn't promise them intricate detail in the first place.

Oh, you mean the writer isn't capable of delivering it? And then it backlash?
Their problem, not mine.

I actually enjoyed ME3 way more than the entirety of this last season. Other than ninja Arya and Clegane Bowl 2019 I couldn't really give much of a shit about anyone else.

Pretty much agree but I was thinking specifically the WTH moment at the very end of both. ME3 was still worse for me because while I enjoyed GOT I didn't have the same emotional investment. Plus I never saw it coming in ME3...it was pretty evident that GOT wasn't going to satisfy by the last couple episodes. Still they managed to surprise me and wrap everything up worse than I would have imagined.

Exactly. But I don't wanna discourage writers against doing sci-fi either, but just know what it is and don't suddenly cop out when you have to wrap it up because you can't handle the minutiae, is all. But for Mass Effect it's 100% clear to me that the reason they stopped caring about the details was because the writers who had the most expertise on details left before they had to wrap it up, and the remainder had to rely on good character writing and sentimental storytelling solely while piggybacking on what had already been established, but developing the establishment proved to cause the entire castle to crumble.

Thing that gets me though is that if they really stopped caring..................just why? Why not just pull an Origins ending out of its ass and just have us determine who lives and dies among the main characters lol Sure someone would bitch and moan about it being too "Hollywood" or some nonsense like that, but at worst it would just be predictable rather than the Oh My God You Killed My Puppies backlash, and it would leave the setting intact for more games with little constraint.
