Didn't see another thread this would fit in, so decided to start a new one.
I picked up a copy of this game on sale for Star Wars day. Any thoughts on it?
Therealso seems to be a lot of mods for it, so can anyone recommend some?

You got it with the DLC forces of corruption? I loved this game back in the day. I remember using a mod that added tons of new units for all factions, can't really remember the name though. There're heaps of cool stuff in Moddb though if you want to give it a look. I think I've never tried to play with some Republic conversion mods. You can definitely give a look at the remake www.moddb.com/mods/empire-at-war-re I remember seeing an article about the mod a while back.

Yeah it was "Gold Edition" or whatever it's called with the expansion. I did load one mod up that provides a bunch of new units. Mainly because it included Mara Jade and Kyle Katarn as hero units

I modded the game. Here is my mod. It is compatible with both Disk and Steam. My mod for the most part goes with Canon, but I did add a bit of Legends material. www.moddb.com/mods/alliance-at-war

I modded the shit out of it, but none of the mods was able to make the ground combat fun. This game shines with its space battles. And yes there are loads of interesting mods for that. I turned to just play the space battles and auto resolve ground ones. One of the best spaceship strategy rts action ever.

Most games would've picked either ground or space combat and leave the other out, this one had both in. That's why I wanted a sequel so much, expecting them to improve upon some of the things that felt a bit lackluster in the first. Alas, it never happened.

I have been trying my best to improve land combat. I gave infantry the ability to fire while moving, I made garrisons spawn quicker to keep battles flowing, I made it possible to increase the firing ranges for a lot of units, I did my best to scale units and structures to Canon size, I added more music, and I increased the lad cap in Skirmish. I even gave some units new abilities. For example, Rebel Vanguards can now lay down land mines.

Last year I read about them pitching to EA about creating Empire at War II, but nothing came of it.
