Which do you prefer guys?
in my case I would prefer to die in a glorious battlefield, at the top of my game and splendor, instead of dying a pathetic death being a vegetable old roting body without a sense of self awareness or not knowing me or anybody around me or anything basically.

Rather die after living my own life as long as I could than get sent to my death in a pointless conflict by some politician.

In one example, I'm dead, and in the other example, I wouldn't miss anything (since I wouldn't remember) and then be dead.
I choose option 3: Get drunk.

Rather die after living my own life as long as I could than get sent to my death in a pointless conflict by some politician. Not every war is pointless like that. In WW2 Germany was in war with Russia because Hitler wanted to deport and exterminate all the Russians and turn the land into the agricultural center of the Reich. The soldiers fought for the very existence of their families and everyone the knew.

I don't really want to die in battle but I'd prefer it over Alzheimers or dementia. However both of those run in my family and so the reality is that I'd probably die from them too. I spent a good ten years of my life helping to take care of my grandmother who eventually forgot how to even walk, she regressed to complete infantile stage. If I ever get diagnosed I'll probably just kill myself.

Late-stage Alzheimer's seems OK from what I've seen of it. But the earlier stages really suck. I'll take a bullet over that. dunno if I'd take slowly dying after being napalmed over that, though.

How we die is meaningless, equally as meaningless as how we're born. A hospital, a wading pool, a bathtub... We all come into this world alone, & we all leave it utterly alone. Our feeble minds attempt to attach significance to everything, from images in our toast to our pathetic careers. Yet, at the end of our handful of decades of suffering & avoiding pain, in the end we are no more than highly advanced apes, fumbling for something to cling to. We think SO very highly of ourselves, yet constantly betray & deceive one another We are truly dust in the wind... no more

Alzheimer's isn't as "easy" as just not remembering anything anymore. Symptoms come and go in various degrees usually. Many people with Alzheimers will have episodes of relative clarity vs. really confused ones. This often leads to a lot of pain and suffering, as people realize their mind slipping away from them in some moment and/or develop paranoia and anxiety symptoms as side effects to their dementia. A lot depends on your surrounding circumstances but most often, it's not just a peaceful process of loosing self awareness and slipping into some kind of infantile state but rather very painful, for the people themselves as well as for those close to them. I wouldn't want to wish this on anyone. On the other hand, dying on a battlefield, depending on the circumstances can obviously be gruesome as well and since I'd never want to be involved in any kind of organized violence like a war, where I am supposed to kill others, I hope I'll never see one close up. In that sense, the question is kinda like whether I want to punched in the face or kicked in the face. If I can help it, I'd rather choose neither. Still hoping I can upload my mind to a robot body eventually.

Impressive, but still not attractive to me. But like I said, I hold myself to the same standards. That's just me though, I'm sure there's plenty of ladies who'd hit that.

There's apparently a market for 80+ yo women in NYC according to this piece: LinkI have a simple metric for determining if a dame is too old, that being, if it ain't up then it ain't going down, and this particular case fails it.

Roids at that age is really dangerous though, and that is roids. At that age it fucks with your arteries, and having tiny balls is never attractive. Also i feel like I need to add to my previous statement, death in battle fighting for something - or someone- that is important to you, is the pinnacle of death. There is no better way to leave this world.

Same with my grandma. Except she died very suddenly in her sleep before it got so bad that her bodily functions stopped working. Silent heart attack apparently. Small mercy... She was bed-ridden after a fall the last months of her life. Died at 78 less than a year after my grandpa.
Like many people with that illness she remembered most things from before she got ill. Remember her childhood and all that. The doctors said her case was very odd though and they weren't sure if it was Altzheimer's or actually from a tick bite or something. She was doing quite well for years. She deteriorated slower than most. Only the last year or so she kept forgetting who we were. One moment she knew me, the next she didn't.
What completely messed with her was when her nurse went home for Christmas and we brought her bed to our home. She couldn't cope with a new environment, kept asking where she was and who we were. That was awful. Once she was back in her own house she got better again.
And I agree with AnDromedary , people with dementia do realize what's happening to them. My grandma used to cry all the time when she realized she asked the same question several times... However, she had a fairly cheerful personality and it didn't seem to depress and scare her as much as other people.
I'm terrified of ending up like that myself. Weak memories sure run in the family. My mom and I both don't have the best memories. I'm especially scatterbrained... My mom reminds me of my grandma more and more every year. I'm in my thirties and already find it more and more difficult to follow complex plots of movies and TV shows... Scares me half to death sometimes.
That said, my grandma used to be a very social person and remained curious until the end. Even with her dementia she wanted to be part of everything, get up for every ring of the bell. My grandpa on the other hand spent the last couple of years of his life basically lying in bed staring at the ceiling. No dementia, just old age depression and pain from diabetes and a stroke... He died horribly too in the psychiatric ward of a hospital.
I'm very grateful my grandma got to die in her sleep like everybody hopes they will too.

I would think a brain aneurysm be pain free. Depending on how big it is. There is also a fatal car crash, those can be sudden and unexpected.

He died horribly too in the psychiatric ward of a hospital.
Oh for sure, I don't think my grandmother could exactly describe what was happening to her but she knew something was off and would always ask that question repeatedly "what's wrong with me" followed by crying, or her other line would be "my head feels funny. ". But even with her dementia, the one thing that always helped her was music. Just turn on one of her favorite songs and she'd smile and try to bob her head with the beat. Eventually as the years went on, the most she would do was stare at the wall, if you were lucky she would give a nod when you'd try to talk to her. Yeah, my memory continually gets worse and I'm just 30, but there's a lot of little things that I feel like I shouldn't forget. I'm hoping that it's just my family experiences that are making me overly paranoid. I've heard that learning new languages helps, something I'm trying to do.
