The Inquisition is pretty much the only logical choice.
Grey Wardens drink Darkspawn blood which can corrupt them. Templars drink Titan blood which can drive them insane. The magisterium and Qunari are super evil and controlling. Wouldn't mind the Chantry or Seekers really but then the Inquisition sort of trumps both.

Yeah, Inquisition.
The Seekers were a close second, though. Templars without the lyrium addiction. I could live with that as a fall back plan.
Grey Wardens were cool to play in a game, but screw the idea of drinking darkspawn - or any, really - blood and being doomed to die horribly.

aside from my nick name giving out a lot.
the idea of mostly no politics when doing the real shit, a short but heroic or grey life without no one rewarding you and be forgotten quickly, don't know why but clics with my character and personality, I like it.

I'm not a fan of factions in general, be it games or real life, I want to do my own stuff without having to follow orders from, and bowing my back to those who see themselves as superiors. That's such an unattractive concept to me. I want to be left alone and do my own stuff - so I guess apostates would be my faction, the non-faction-faction.

That's such an unattractive concept to me. I want to be left alone and do my own stuff - so I guess apostates would be my faction, the non-faction-faction. Being an apostate implies you want to be a mage. But for most apostates that are not part of a Dalish Clan or a Rivaini/Avaar/Chasind tribe, dragon cult, etc. life can easily be more of a hassle than being a mage is worth. Exile from most population centers, templar-hunts, angry mobs, etc. And I don't see myself wanting to live my life as a survivalist. Odds are you would be forced to forfeit magical practice in order to live a quiet life in some town but where's the fun in that? So I suggest the Mages' Collective of Ferelden. They more or less let thier own do whatever they want so long as it doesn't attract unwanted attention, and there is no indication that they follow orders from a supreme leader or anything. Merely a cabal of like-minded mages who want to study on thier own terms and make a profit.

I pick the Wardens for all the reasons Blackwall goes on about. Did specifically one branch go off the deep end due to heavy machinations by the enemy, ya, but they didn't want to or enjoy doing so.
Inquisition: Disbanded, probably, Leliana touching it, she's incompetent. Religious; just No. Templars/Seekers/Chantry are all a hard no due to the religion it calls for. I mean, I'm not against the Seekers, it's just their skills only were given by Faith spirits and I don't have it. Qunari: pass on the thought police Legion of the Dead: requires someone wanting you dead for a crime more than likely. pass.
Chevaliers? there is nothing remotely good about them?
Magisterium is a mixed bag and involves a lot of political scheming. pass

For me, it is the Magisterium. I am pro mage player, I only play as a human, so being in the one country in Thedas where being a mage isn't an obstacle would be preferable. I can live a comfortable life, improve my magic without restrictions and live in the oldest nation in Thedas that is rich in history and culture. I fundamentally abhor both the Chantry and the Qunari. The Grey Wardens and the Inquisition are well meaning and once genuinely helped save the world, but like any long lasting organisation have overstepped their bounds and often cause more problems than they fix. And the Templars. Need I say more given my preferences? I am aware that Tevinter has it's problems and issues, and my life will essentially be as threatened as the average Sith Lord, but the greater the risk the greater the reward.

I'd rather not join anyone. With BioWare you never know which faction is next in line to be smacked about left and right with the stupid stick.
Now if you'd ask me which faction I'd rather want to give the finger and the boot, that would be another matter entirely...

I don't think, he spoke about the Chantry's term to the "free mages", rather "a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principle" But perhaps, I'm wrong, English isn't my first language.

Carta's a good one, though I think I'd rather be a member of the high class criminals and go Dwarven Merchants Guild. I'm short enough I could probably pass for a tallish dwarf.
Of the ones in the poll, I'd probably go Chantry, but only as a lay member, some kind of scholar like Genitivi. Oh, or a professor like Kendric! One of my Inquisitors became quite the expert on old elfy ruins. He could write mountains of white papers on the subject.

Definitely Inquisition - especially if my Inquisitor was the boss. What's not to like? I would probably be some kind of researcher, so I would spend most of my time in the library with Dorian. Sounds like a fun and easy job for me.

I guess Bull's Chargers, the Antivan Crows, the Ash Warriors or the Red Jennies wouldn't be considered a faction...would they? ...
It would be cool to have Bull as a leader and work alongside the Chargers...Krem made their...adventures sound like fun. I'm kind of iffy on the Crows, but they seem to have some pretty good training. Ash Warriors get a mabari, and I can kinda see where the Red Jennies are coming from.

I picked the Chevaliers. All the others are religious or evil, or drink poison.
Reading 'The Masked Empire' gave me a greater appreciation for the Chevaliers. They put honour above everything else, even to their own detriment, but they're sill allowed to have something of a normal life.
