Baldur's Gate provenance, so ''Bioware'' it is.

I chose "other". I`ve always liked fantasy rpgs but there was a time in my life that i had stop playing games except for my annual BG series playthrough, and then one day, at my brother`s home i see the cover of a game with the phrase "spiritual successor to Baldur`s Gate" and i knew i just had to buy this game. Once i started playing DAO i fell in love with the characters, the story and the setting (and having the option to choose our character from different origins truly win me over). I was lucky that Awakening was already out and a few months later DA2 launched. I`ve been a fan of the series ever since.

..well, I'd already played a Bioware game in the past (Neverwinter Nights 2 (though technically from Obsidian) and for me it's the setting mostly (I love fantasy stories) but also, randomness...I came across the game at random while watching videos on Youtube, I think I came across one of the trailers (I believe the Sacred Ashes one) watched it and was like, huh...let's check this out...then went to the website and watched some of the character videos from back then Alistair's video made me hooked and I believe I bought it a few days later, then when Awakening came out I bought that one as well, then the dlc's as they came out pre-ordered the signature edition of DA2, and a regular version of Inquisition (I did get a big poster along with it ) but yeah, I've loved the series since the very beginning, so I'm really excited for the next entry
One of my friends later recommended me Mass Effect, and I recommended him Dragon Age, since then I've recommended the series to a few more people who've all became fans of it in some way or another

BioWare! I had fallen out of touch with their work after being disappointed with the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, Did you ever get around to the expansions?

I'm not exactly sure why I picked up DA:O, other than I watched my husband play it on the Xbox and he liked it. Final Fantasy VI was my favorite RPG for a long time, and I liked the old Might and Magic games. At the time it came out I was staying home during the day with my kiddo and working nights. Also, my gaming group had fallen apart and I kind of was filling the gap. My records show that I bought it in 2011 during the Steam Winter sale.
I am very bad at games, so I used a guide and managed to play it all the way through with a rogue Mahariel, and romance Zev. Truth is, I didn't really think about it again much, until a friend of mine started posting fanart of the Solas romance on Tumblr right after the game released in 2014 (and spoiled me on the end of DA:I). Welp, I was intrigued to say the least, got the game on sale after Christmas, replayed the whole series front to back, and have been addicted to the franchise ever since. So I'd definitely say it was the characters that got me into it.

A combination of things, I guess. I played Mass Effect based on recommendations and also saw people recommending Dragon Age. I liked ME so I figured I would give some of Bioware’s other games a shot.

To tell the truth, it was the romances because I never knew it existed in games and it got me curious when I saw some videos on youtube. I never was big on games. I played some nintendo games when I was a child, then played some mmorpgs. Since then, I'm playing tons of different genres of pc games.

Sadly that commercial's combat was ten times better then the actual game's. Agreed. Still it provided a cinematic and RP experience that was completely new to me...and led me to BSN (in retrospect that may be a bad thing ) It's interesting to see everyones opinion as to how the combat in the series should be. Some preferred the slower, more tactical pace, of DA:O, while others want the action-oriented version of DA2/DA:I.

If I had to choose one, I'd say it was because it was made by Bioware. I had played KOTOR and Mass Effect, so knew they told good stories that I'd enjoy.

My first contact with Dragon Age was when I went to a game store to buy God of War 3. The guy working there tried to convince me to buy DAO and even let me play it a little. But I just looked at the inferior graphics and felt like "Meh, it doesn't seem so great".
Years later, I bought DAI (and had no idea it was a sequel) and loved the game, since I'm generally into story driven single players. Then I learned it was the third of the franchise and decided to play the rest of them.

Other: gay romances. DAO was the first game I ever knew of to have gay romances, so I picked it up solely for that. I was never the biggest fan of WRPGs, but playing DAO opened my mind to them and now I'm an avid fan of subgenre.

I went into DA blind. I was bored and saw Origins advertised on TV, and thought "I'll give that a whirl" and ended up LOVING IT. It's one of my all time favourite games. And thus, I've stuck with the franchise ever since.

Dragon Age: Origins was made by the same company that made KOTOR...so, 'name recognition'.
I liked the look of Mass Effect, but - waaaay back then - it was an XBox 360 exclusive and I wasn't going to buy a console for one game. Plus, fantasy has always been more interesting than sci-fi for me, anyway.

BioWare! I had fallen out of touch with their work after being disappointed with the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, Did you ever get around to the expansions? I did! Largely because I didn't have much else to play in the gap between DAO and DA2 .
I agree with the consensus that they are much, much better than the base game. The irritating UI and lack of party control still stop them being in my upper echelon of BioWare games, but I definitely enjoyed the stories.

I had just finished The Witcher 1 and 2, and wanted something a bit similar. Googled, and many recommended Dragon Age. So then I bought DA:O, and here I am.

Iirc I saw it for about half-price sometime in 2010, I picked it up the shelf cause the cover looked cool, read the back of the box, thought it seemed fun enough so I bought it. Loved the different origins, NPCs acknowledging you were different, the setting, the lore, more of the characters than I usually like in a game, being able to discuss opinions with companions and influence them. Combat wasn't that great and the graphics were a bit subpar but I didn't care about that, everything else amply makes up for it.

I'd been following BioWare closely since Baldur's Gate, and as soon as Dragon Age: Origins was available, I found the preorder-button. Then delivery was delayed for two days and I got so cranky over it that several people in my WoW guild at that time breathed a sigh of relief when it finally arrived... I was completely engrossed by Origins from beginning to finale, and when the credits rolled I read them to the end while listening to the sound track, went back to the main menu and clicked "New Game". Good old days.

Quite simple really. I was a World of Warcraft roleplayer at the time, and used to read a regular WoW RP blog.
One day the blogger made a post about a new game they were playing called Dragon Age 2. I'd never heard of it, and had no experience with any kind of modern RPG beyond Diablo, my only experience with a true RPG was with oldschool interactive text-based adventures such as Zork etc..
The way she described this game made it sound really interesting, as it sounded like a kind of fascinating rags-to-riches story where you could make actual choices that would affect the game. I'd never experienced anything like it before.
Intrigued I did some Googling on this Dragon Age game, and discovered that a game called Origins was the first in the series. I decided to order the Enhanced Edition of the game from Amazon.
Took me a few hours to get to grips with the game, I was all over the place at first and had difficulty working out what to do, where to go, and how to navigate my way around, but eventually it all clicked into place and I was hooked beyond anything I'd ever experienced before.
I literally couldn't stop thinking about it, and time at work in between playing was like a grey dream - getting back into the role of my Warden was all I could think about....

mine is pretty simple (I did this a lot in the past)
i simply grabbed the box cause i liked the cover page, read what was written in behind the box, i liked it and bought the game.
the rest was just simply magic, and of course it was the glorious DAO.
good ol' timez ma men.

I had a friend who introduced me to Mass Effect, which was pretty much my first exposure to that kind of RPG, so afterwards I went looking for more and stumbled across Dragon Age, and that was enough really.

I was not a gamer. I played some Blizzard stuff and harvest moon and a couple obviously popular JRPGs since 11 but I was not a gamer. I picked DAO up off the shelf because "it had dragons" and I was sick with a bad cold at 28 and didn't just want to lay like a potato watching bad tv (because most tv is bad to my tastes) I was hooked as soon as it got so effing "real" in the City Elf origin. Stayed up all night playing Then found out romance was a thing as I was swept away with the drama of the story. The different outcomes with the Landsmeet and the Dark Ritual Conundrum had me agonizing. My emotions were totally invested. Riding off into the Sunset with Warden Alistair felt well earned, like a good end to what seemed like such a rocky start. I could have been a nobody that was hung, instead I got to be a somebody that saved the world. What does that fall under? I had an almost similar experience with DAO...It had dragons in it and that's what caught my attention. The story really caught me at the Battle of Ostagar, I wanted to avenge the death of Duncan. I liked his character right off and I didn't like it when he died. Then on my second and third playthroughs I noticed how different choices changed the story up. I'm not sure anymore how many times I've played through the game though and it took me a couple of playthroughs before I realized you could recruit Zevran. I just killed him the first couple of times. I found the game had an intriguing storyline and I loved the characters, the romances, the humour and the artwork. And I've gotten a chuckle or two out of some of the letters I'd come across, ie:"why didn't we take the eagles?' and the Superman reference with the farmer and his wife at the meteor crash site. Every time I played I'd discover something new and that was cool.

Well around the time Origins was being marketed I was still playing ME1 and became a huge fan of the game. So hearing that the same developers were making another game made me interested. But it wasn't until I seen the marilyn manson trailer for the game, that caused me to become excited and actually do more research on the game. That trailer, with his song "The New Shit" is what sold the game to me. You'll never see Bioware with a trailer like that ever again. For those who don't remember it, or never seen it. Well here it is.
