So shortly after I threatened to expose Governor Burham's dirty little secrets and he in turn threatened to have De Sardet killed, wait, when can we threaten the Governor? I missed this chance and he so deserved it. I believe its the top option after completing the quest involving his favourite scientist. Well, at least if you killed the the guy. Its disappointing, but also kinda funny as they both start of there seething attack with the phrase, "Come now." Though Burhan really loves that phrase in general I've noticed, he just wants everyone to know what a pompous ass he is.

We tried to disguise as servants... I am sure you can't tell the difference. Don't laugh, it worked!...I said DON'T LAUGH! Too bad, I laughed. Constantine is game fabricated, but I didn't feel comfortable doing any side quests until I got him a healer. Those duck billed quacks seem evil, almost like they were enjoying his suffering. OH MY GOSH, I had that thought, and now I KNOW. They were writing letters to Dr Asli telling him all about it weren't they! Found out that there is a whole tracking quest for Constantin, who I just usually found by his screaming. I had decided to explore the town before questing and ran into him this way as well. I guess doing the lynching later on would be harder. If you have high enough Charisma/Intuition, he does your bidding regardless.

her abrupt decision to join Constantine and screw over everyone else really came out of left field... I mean, it made sense to me, the player, since I cared more about my cousin than I cared about any other character in the game, but it really didn't feel natural in the context of De Sardet's previous dialogue I feel like that moment after De Sardet's cuts their hand, then raises their fist...then Constantine assures them they're making the right choice... depicts a De Sardet that does have thoughts of the friends they're leaving behind. It's just that Constantine is more important. That's my take on it anyway. Well done scene.

And oddly enough, Burhan's facial expression was kinda disappointed, like he was annoyed there was going to have to be trial now. also, loved the trial stuff, and the execution. just wish there could have been In Trial Landsmeet kinda stuff. would have made it golden.

Gosh. I really liked the story of that game. I don't know that I can play another game back to back though. It all just came together so dramatically at the end there. I still feel the heartache and the weight of the decision made. I want to let it echo round my head awhile.
Strong start, weak middle, strong ending. Acceptable battle mechanics (special mentions to bomb and Stasis...Stasis was found WAY TOO LATE), just barely acceptable fast travel mechanics. Pretty world, mostly forgettable music. I liked Hikmet's horn music and the overall appearance of their city the best. Hated their people. I'm not for religion at all, but at least they had some sort of Ideal Hopes behind their atrocities. The cold science of Hikmet's people bordered on an alien sort of evil. All in all, there was really nothing redeemable about any of the non native factions. And considering one of the options for the end game, I wonder if that wasn't sort of intentional.
I liked that there were factions inside factions within the Natives.
I liked that Kurt, Petrus, and Siora were relevant to major story beats. Aphra's story is weak. Vasco's story is a bit weak. I feel like Spiders should have cut a faction out and given all those dialogue lines to the companions. and THEN, my friends, we would have had companions to rival Bioware. As it was they were just too darn quiet most of the time. And when there were difficult emotional moments for De Sardet, I thought, surely, our friend status will mean that one of them will have something to say to De Sardet? a bit of comfort in all this darkness? but nothing. Closest we got was the pre end game speech where they all recognized it would be hard for De Sardet. At first, I was really irked that they abandon you along the way to the top, but considering the choice you make up there, I guess they figured you didn't need any companions staring on as you saved them or damned them.
If there had been more banter, all the traveling and the slow middle part of the game would have been much mitigated. Peak moments even in the middle slow part was the Coup (loved getting people to safety while being under attack) and Constantine becoming ill.
And in retrospect, I am loving more and more the "evil" choice option at the end. As someone else said in the thread, definite "Why can't we join Solas!" vibes. I truly understand why some people felt that way now. I was never attached to Solas that way.
I would recommend this game to others with a warning about backtracking and a slow middle. Would buy another Spiders game in the future.

I would recommend this game to others with a warning about backtracking and a slow middle. Would buy another Spiders game in the future. Same here. This little studio has grown on me. They always try to make bigger games than their resources allow - you can see it in Greedfall too (even though it's much better than their previous attempts), but you can feel how much effort and heart they pour into their work.
Spiders got a new publisher now (Big Ben) and I am curious how it will work. Apparently Big Ben is going into RPG territory (new Werewolf and Vampire games incoming from them). Hopefully they just give Spiders the money and let them work I will support the studio until they make their big hit or big flop.

Big Ben has a terrible reputation, but that was before they started to buy all the French AA studios (which pissed off Focus, basically only Dontnod is still indie at this point) to focus on AA (especially RPGs) gaming. I actually wonder where Big Ben got the money to do that too.

I've saved Alba the young Naut, again, so I think it kind of confirms the quest order thing. I was still pondering how some quest results change depending on other quests when suddenly... ... I finished Vasco's last quest and he reminded the Admiral that I am after all Sea Born, plus very useful to keep around too, and I should be a Naut.
The Admiral was all for it and told us to go get our tatts pronto. I consented and Vasco is very happy that we're ink-siblings now. As if this game didn't have enough incestuous overtones for me already.
My De Sardet is very very very uncertain of her looks now. The others have been kind enough not to comment on my new fake/painted on mustache and goatee. Pity.

I'm *still* working through my 2nd pt. I've had to take long breaks because of trips made and my youngest coming home to visit from college. Now with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I'll be even more busy. But, I promise I'm going to try and keep up with this thread and check in if I get to play more. I love this little game and this thread

I was a slow starter, and I don't think I am quite halfway through yet, but I am having a great time. I chose to build a triple hybrid using a few spells (I am still undecided whether I want to buy Magic Healing and go with mana regen and keep saving my fury for weapon strikes, or buy Storm and go with hp regen), traps and weapon coatings (but no grenades; Aphra is handling the lobbed destruction duties), an interesting mix of apparel, and doing all of this while occasionally doing back-handsprings with a two-handed mace equipped.
I am spreading out the main quests, and doing as many of the side quests as possible in between. I just tracked down the crashed Naut ship with Vasco, but I haven't started looking for the Tierna Harh Cadachtas yet. I heard a lot of mixed opinions about Aphra, but I prioritized recruiting her before I even visited Siora's clan, and I have greatly enjoyed all of Aphra's contributions and dialogue. I enjoyed flirting with her too. I don't remember the exact lines, but it was something like "Do you always point guns at people you just met?" And she responds "Do you always chase after young women in the wilderness?" And then De Sardet says "Only when they're attractive," or something similar. Aphra was flustered and surprised, but she let my f!De Sardet down easy. I keep Aphra in the party at all times, and rotate the other slot. I also made sure that not a single companion has a tricorne hat or a rapier, just to buck the trend.
I did spoil myself on the ending (not that I mind, it actually convinced me to change a couple of other things; that and I always enjoy the journey, and like to plan for certain story beats too), and I am excited to see how it plays out. I know I will definitely give the crown to Derdre, but I haven't decided for sure whether I will stick with the "bad" ending or not. I like the flip of trying to be diplomatic with everyone, and then just finally giving up on most of the factions in the end.

So, I caught up with the Tierna Harh Cadachtas, and viewed a frustrating sequence for the resolution. De Sardet used a nonexistent firearm to finish off the Nadaig before the rest of the quest concluded. While it was only the second instance of breaking immersion during a cutscene so far (the first being during the Serene prologue), I think I am going to add firearms to my build for some piece of mind. At least now, the points I sunk to get Anointed Weapons and Roll are no longer wasted (I originally intended to be pure melee). I used the memory crytal to test out a non-magic rogue, built like a heavier version of Vasco using rifles and two-handed heavy weapons. It turns out that cutscenes will use a default small firearm if you don't have one equipped. I might still give it a go with a small blunderbuss paired with my big, heavy weapon. Regardless, I discovered that the Bomb ultimate is a lot of fun to use. If I do drop magic, I will definitely add the Bomb.
The Tierna Harh Cadachtas is an interesting character. I wish we could have had more interactions with her, or that she could have had a recurring role in the story.

It turns out the joke's on me. I saved right after defeating the Nadaig, and hadn't interacted with the Tierna again at that point. My opinion above still stands, but I may have been mistaken in my perception of her limited role. I am currently gaining further access to the old mine of Glendgnamvar, which I visited quite a while back. De Sardet is learning the surprising origins of the ancient ruins scattered about the island.
Today in Greedfall, I may also finally decide on my build. I have still been playing as my triple hybrid, but it turns out that adding firearms to a character that already has spells (especially the Stasis spell) completely trivializes combat encounters. Even with only two points in Accuracy using an "Accuracy 1" firearm, I felt a difference against the bat and beast mobs, as well as the Nadaig on the plateau. I have been playing on hard, and have had my share of combat failures now and then, so I feel the current setting is fine. To keep my hybrid, I may need to swap out Stasis for a different spell. Otherwise, it would probably be better balanced to use firearms on a build without magic.

Currently, my party is trying to convince a Native healer to come help Constantin. De Sardet is exterminating some Tenlan nests, and looking for some affectionate runaways (so I assume). De Sardet also recently learned more about her family, and New Serene had a very big Coin Guard event that was quite thrilling. We went straight to the commander to work things out, and failed a quest for interaction with his lieutenants. I am not going to reload to attempt to get all the things, however. I am pleasantly surprised that I may not be as far along as I thought. I was searching some online guides to find out if I had ended up on the fast track to the ending (I wanted to see if picking the other main quest first would allow me more time), when one of them mentioned that the Coin Guard event takes place around the halfway point. I presume I am further along than that, considering how I have been exploring and working on all the sidequests. We'll see; it's pleasant adventuring regardless.
I didn't make a lot of progress this last week. What time I did spend gaming, saw me replaying the same thirty to forty minutes over and over while tweaking my build. I decided to mostly keep what I had with my hybrid. I did consider using Burst, Heal, and Storm, but I much prefer Bomb, so I settled on late improvements. I won't be improving Stasis until somewhere past forty points spent, and since I am using one-handed heavy, I don't need to buy the damage buff to get Heal (which I don't start developing until around level 25). Also, De Sardet is sticking with low-level Accuracy and firearms. I absolutely love the model for the Sabre of the Sea People (even though it can't be upgraded), so I definitely have to spend five points on Strength.

I forgot to mention it yesterday, but when I was replaying and testing my builds, I witnessed the above mentioned scene a few times. I actually changed my extra party member to Vasco, because the companions with you also use guns. It was a little weird seeing Siora waving a pistol at the Tierna. I didn't focus on it, but I think Aphra was still using her rifle in the scene. I just wanted to share that amusing observation with you.

Today in Greedfall, I decided to restart from scratch with a second playthrough. My female De Sardet was engaging in a lot of quests, and was suddenly being bombarded with a significant amount of misgendering dialogue. It was very infrequent before, but it started becoming intolerable to me. It really is too bad that this still exists in this quantity. However, this is not to say that I have given up on the game. There is so much about Greedfall that I enjoy and appreciate. At least now I have an excuse to not skip the opening cutscene, and to use one of pure ranged builds I considered earlier. I will probably run a gun mage, who is also an alchemist using thrown phials. My armor rating will be very low, so maybe Hard will still be a decent setting.
Now I just have to decide whether my male De Sardet will romance Aphra and use the "bad" ending, or romance Vasco and kick out the colonists before sailing off into the sunset.
Can any forumites share their preference?

I haven't reached that point yet, but from what I've read, the concept sounds very interesting. Thank you for your suggestion.
It is likely I will have to wait and resurrect this thread quite a bit later. I wasn't sure if I would meet my deadline, but with starting over, I definitely won't now. I am going to put my game on hold until the new system comes out. My nephew has been really wanting to get a Playstation 4, and his grandparents said they would help him if he saved his money. First, I suggested he could just wait until near Christmas, and get the Playstation 5. It doesn't seem that was as appealing to him. So, I suggested he could save his money for now, and I would give him my Playstation 4 (used, but in pristine condition) for his May birthday. It's my own fault, but I still haven't played Divinity Original Sin yet, and I feel it would be a good experience if we could go on that adventure together. My nephew isn't in the age range for how the game is rated though, so I wanted to play through it to see if it could be suitable (making note of any quests or characters that we should skip). Thus, I have a little more than five weeks before his birthday, so I am going to see if I can't run through that game instead.
Today in Greedfall, I am going to use my higher level character to test out my planned build, and then finish my Teer Fradee adventure once the PS5 is released (unless my nephew changes his mind for some reason).

Just started on XBoxOne. The lip syncing in this game is hilariously bad - surprised I didn't see more memes about that. Is this one of those games where you just randomly loot everything (crate, barrel, scrap pile, etc) in site? I really hate that mechanic.

It is an indie game with a very small budget (€5 million), so maybe that is why there weren't more memes. I thought the game looked good considering the budget. I am not very picky about graphics, though.

So, that thing on De Sardet's face isn't the malichor, but instead supposed to be some sort of birth mark that no one explains, or even mentions, until later? That's just confusing.

Malichor is full on body rot I think, you're just growing a pretty little tree out of your cheek. Or moss. I think it gets a bit more attention once you reach the island.

The very first scene in the game with the painter desperately trying "not" to mention the mark cracks me up every time.

Just started playing this over the weekend. Is it just me or is De Sardet a bit of a pompous ass in some of the early sidequests in Serene? There was at least once that I used a charisma/persuasion option with an uncooperative merchant, and what ensued was something of a "do you know who I am?" lecture, and the only way to get Lady Fontaine to give useful information in the sidequest with the missing Naut was to threaten her with prison. Does this persist later in the game? Because frankly I'd like to have him eat a little humble pie after some of these dialogue choices.
