Yep...just finished another playthrough of DAI last week. I don't need a website to validate what I, and many, consider one of best games of the decade.

The Witcher 2 was also not listed in the best games of the decade despite coming out in 2011.
Clearly that means the Witcher series did not get good until the third game, right? I mean, if DAI not making the list is indicative of its poor quality, that must mean The Witcher 2 was also shit.

Really pleased to see Pillars of Eternity on there! That was my other favourite RPG of the decade.
A bit baffled at the inclusion of Pokemon: Sword and Shield, though. There are so many better Pokemon games that came out in the last ten years.

I agree, Pillars of Eternity is nice. I also am glad, that they included What remains of Edith Finch there. And Bloodborne.
But Tbh, I don't give much credit to such lists, they are mostly subjective. Sometimes they are nice for recommendations, but nothing more.

I played 14 from that list. Two more are in my library, unplayed.
Seeing a number of questionable choices, DAI should definitely be on that list. ME3 too for that matter. They're both great games imo.
Thumbs up for Subnautica. I'm also pleased about Firewatch.

Eh. They put an AC game in there that came after the overhaul to slashsponges. How reasonable is that list, really.

Yeah but The Witcher 2 was and still is a massive piece of shit. If you want to know why I can't stand The Witcher video games that is the main reason that killed any interest in the series, (that and the sheer amount of toxic fanboys I've met here and earlier and other BioWare/video games message boards) who pretty much killed any interest in the games and blame Henry "I suck at acting" Cavil for my reason for hating the TV show.

I never got into the games because I dislike the combat.
I’m only THREE EPISODES into The Witcher series (please. no spoilers) and while I think Henry Cavill is doing a good job, I hate the feel of this world. Dragon Age is pretty dark at times, but it’s at least possible to achieve some good, or at least to punish the wicked. In The Witcher, virtually every character acts in their own interest, and those who don’t generally have their decisions blow up in their face.
It’s actually kind of comical how awful the world of The Witcher is. In Dragon Age 2, when you help an injured dog, the owner thanks you for your kindness. If you did the same thing in The Witcher, the dog would run off and eat a dozen babies.

We are generally a very pessimistic and cynical nation, with good historical reasoning. There are of course optimists, but the vast majority see more black than white and love to complain about it Personally, I like both the western overly positive storytelling and our pessimistic one, depending on my mood.

I know that many people will diagree but i don´t think that DAI belongs in a Games of the Decade list.
Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 or even Mass Effect Andromeda deserves it more than DAI. I had fun with DAI in some moments
but the complete game wasn´t good enough to justify it. But it looks good.
I would rather put in the most Disappointing or Overhyped Games of the decade.
Edit: Also DAI didn´t deserve to be GOTY 2014. Alien Isolation should have won. But all (gaming) lists are subjective.

GotY tends to go to a specific sort of game; the highly cinematic kind. Rankings are a chance for less traditional choices to shine, which is bound to crowd out some of the pseudo-movies that made the GotY awards. Also, the new decade (2021-2030) doesn't start until next year anyway, so this listing is premature

DAI's reputation has soured over the years, but I can't take IGN seriously with their ongoing obsession with Control. Snubbing so many 2019 games to make it look better is just lol

The list is totally subjective so no right or wrong answer.
DAI wouldn't have made my list either unless it was a list of the most disappointing games of the past decade. I thought it was worst of the three DA games. As far as DAI winning GOTY, it was a weak year for games imo which is why they won. I also think this year was also a weak year for games. I didn't think any game that was up for GOTY this year deserved to be there. I made have played and enjoyed some of them, but they weren't GOTY material.
Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age. I find myself only liking one or maybe two games a year anymore. Looking forward to The Last of Us 2 for this year and that is about it so far.

There is no good guys vs Bad guys like Dragon Age. Everyone in the witcher world has their angle. In Dragon Age Yennifer could be a villain. Considering the popularity of TW3 as well as the books, it goes to show how receptive consumers was to this approach.

In fact, The Witcher 2 wasn’t even in the running for Best Game of the Year in 2011, according to IGN. ca.ign.com/wikis/best-of-2011/Game_of_the_YearActually, the first Witcher wasn’t in the running for IGN’s Game of the Year in 2007 either. www.ign.com/articles/2008/01/15/gamesage-weekly-game-of-the-year-2007-editionClearly this means that The Witcher series has been a big pile of stinky shit until The Witcher 3. IGN HAS SPOKEN!

I don't know why you keep repeating this like it's some sort of controversial opinion. Have you played the first 2 Witcher games? The first Witcher was a niche game for old school fans with a horrible rhythm combat system, the second Witcher was kinda Fable-ish, okay as an action-RPG I guess. You are correct, CD Projekt didn't hit it big till Witcher 3. They grew with every game, every game they took a step forward.

Regarding IGN's post … what people feel about a game in the year it's released is sometimes different to how they feel about a game in 6 years time. So for the former they're measuring impact in the present, in the latter often they're measuring long lasting impact.
Let's be real about Inquisition, it doesn't really move the genre forward in any sort of meaningful way. So the long term impact, for most people, is going to be ... lesser.
Looking at the games IGN chose, 80 Days is an amazing Indie game. For real, more people should play that game. When it was released I posted about it on several forums, it desperately deserves more recognition. Shadow of Mordor probably had a more lasting impact due to the Nemesis system and what that can mean for games moving forward. Civilization 5 is just an amazing game in a genre where there's not too many amazing games (as opposed to the open world format which is a little saturated right now). Hearthstone's lasting impact is just undeniable. Still a huge game 7 years on. Deserving of a place on that list. Never really played Bayonetta 2, I just know people always rave about it.
It's a fairly solid list. Inquisition didn't make it *shrugs*. It's not really a game where you feel its impact 7 years later. That's okay, not every game has to be that. It's a solid entry in the DA series though.
