Hello Freelancers.
I picked up the game during a BF sale and finally grinded my Ranger up to 30, yay!
I've got enough crystals, and items, to purchase the following Legendary gear: 2 Tomb of Legionairres Offerings 4 War Chests (8 if/when BW grants the extra 20K crystals)
Any recommendations on which to choose from (weapons, support, components, Ranger-specific items)? Looking for Ranger relevant. And TBH, might be near-done with the game. But want to get the items in case the crystals are obsoleted. And just not make any really bad choices.
FYI, I only play my Ranger. And I have zero Legendary items. A few MW: Elemental Rage (Defender) Wyvern Blitz (Deadeye) Papa Pump (Scattershot) Both melee items Vanguard's Rampart (Bulwark Point support)
no components, assault launcher, or grenade MW's
thanks!

I'd go to the tomb of Gawnes for the javelin-specific components … for survivability … while rocking your Ranger.
Inscriptions are nice on components, but added shields and armor is as important as component power/weapon boost at this point.
At Hershel's … go with the Ranger specific gear/support gear/melee option.
Gear and melee are very inscription dependent, but almost anything you get will be a significant upgrade, plus the bonus power.
If you have MW blueprints, you can use those to create MW weapons, gear, support gear and components … not as powerful as legos, but they will include the bonus "power" and be a lot more effective than epic versions. Since you have Vanguard's Rampart, I'd hold off creating one of those and save your limited (at this point) materials for upgrading stuff you only have at the epic level. Pick a weapon you really like … and have the MW blueprint … and go with that … unless you get really lucky, it will probably take a lot of tries to get one with decent inscriptions. That will chew up a lot of your somewhat limited resources.
The best thing you can do … for now … is find folks who'll add you to their FL and join them for seasonal runs … especially the strongholds. That way you will earn a lot of crystals in a hurry, plus get a reasonable number of lego drops. On GM3, lego drops will be at level 80.
If you've done the dailies and strongholds, the random missions are a decent place to have some variety of game play and score some legos.

Inscriptions are nice on components, but added shields and armor is as important as component power/weapon boost at this point. Thanks for the tips! Are you saying that I should use armor and shield augment components, or just try to get high %shield, %armor inscriptions and use those? Unfortunately, the only one I have is for the Elemental Rage AR. I have a 61 there, but the 56 has a 175% physical dmg that makes it more powerful. So I don't think I see a reason to roll another. No other MW blueprints. Not even sure how to get most. The only ones I know of come from completing challenges for that item, which makes it moot (need a MW to beat challenge to unlock blueprint). thanks again!

With the Tokens you can use in Tombs as well as Crystals I'd only buy universal components all the time, even as a new player. You get enough of the other stuff anyways eventually by just playing. But getting universal components can be a pain in the ass, especially getting good ones. And they are basically what it's all about right now until something changes in the game hopefully. Because they are the ones that have "the good stuff" in regards to the inscriptions they can roll and that's pretty much the most important factor right now. There's arguments to be made for using some javelin-specific components and right now I'm even running some on my Ranger but most of the time it's just 1 or 2 jav-specific components and the rest is all universals. Some are better than others but that's details. For starters the inscriptions they can come with are the more important part.
By the way: for the Tombs you also need other parts and masterwork embers if you wish to craft legendaries. Are you sure you have enough of that as well right now?

Pretty different than Grinch's who recommends Ranger-specific. Guess I'll flip a coin, LOL! As to the above, yes, I have enough of the various Embers for 7 items, Parts/Ranger Parts for about same, Alloys/Compounds for more. So I'm very limited by my TWO tokens (I'm just more a solo player). But thanks for mentioning. If I may, some totally unrelated Q's that are bugging me. Figuring out symbols in the Social screen: My javelin shows an upside down blue triangle next to my name with "Freeplay". Most others are green, also with "Freeplay". But some are white, usually (always?) with a blank. -- What do the colors represent? Once or twice, I've seen "out of suit" -- what is this? In game freeplay icons: Purple with one star below it is just an area with mobs which drops normal loot. Two stars is for a World Mission that your Cypher will assist on. I think I've seen 3 stars, what are these? thanks all!

Thanks for the info. Pretty different than Grinch's who recommends Ranger-specific. Guess I'll flip a coin, LOL! There are pretty much 3 Ranger components that are actually useful: Badge Of Devastation (if paired with the right weapon and going for an ultimate build or some kind of hybrid) Tip Of The Spear (for the combo damage as well as armor/health regeneration) Elemental Ops (mainly for the acid priming, but the rest is nice as well) And the thing about them is: it really doesn't matter that much what 2 inscriptions you get on those. Because all javelin-specific components can (at least right now) only drop with the (mostly) useless stuff like: effects duration, effect resist, pickup radius, some + for some elemental thing... some stuff is convenient like maybe resupply drop rate, support item recharge, ultimate speed, shield refresh... but mostly all this stuff can be ignored or you get it as additional stats with something else like a weapon or such. Universal components on the other hand... first of all some of them are really good like Emergency Power, Symbiotic Surge, Softened Blows, Bloodlust (the last one not so much for a Ranger) AND they also have the good inscriptions like. For a Ranger that's mainly Combo Impact Damage and Ultimate Damage. But also things like javelin-wide damage (even though it doesn't affect combos and ultimates anymore) or global gear recharge or very high melee damage (again, not as useful for a Ranger). You can pretty much go through a lot of them to get really nice inscriptions whereas whatever javelin-specific item drops is just fine the way it is. I've been running some builds completely without any javelin-specific components because they were all pretty much neglected by the inscriptions on the universal. A while back the universal components had really low armor and shield values and it was a BIG tradeoff to use them. But now they are all pretty solid (I think they actually have the default base values of Ranger components). Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to finally making a "build" video I get asked about a lot in video comments. I want to explain a few things and not just show my loadouts which won't be that much help to anyone, especially if they can't just replicate it anyways. Last couple of times I tried recording the game crashed even though I could record gameplay plus microphone in the past just fine. As to the above, yes, I have enough of the various Embers for 7 items, Parts/Ranger Parts for about same, Alloys/Compounds for more. So I'm very limited by my TWO tokens (I'm just more a solo player). But thanks for mentioning. I was just wondering because you mentioned you only had a few MW items and crafting legendary items in the Tombs costs around 100 MW-Embers each. I honestly have no idea, I never look at that. I only use the friendslist in Origin, the ingame stuff doesn't work properly anyways. Out of Suit basically just means they are not playing any mission right now, usually hanging around in the mission screen, the forge or some place else. In game freeplay icons: Purple with one star below it is just an area with mobs which drops normal loot. Two stars is for a World Mission that your Cypher will assist on. I think I've seen 3 stars, what are these? thanks all! World Events can have 1, 2 or 3 stars. I think it's meant to be some sort of difficulty rating but usually they are all pretty easy. Then there are also Target Elimination objectives, symbolized only by a crosshair (and also one star, maybe sometimes more don't know right now). They don't count as World Events and basically are just enemies that you can kill until a higher tier version with a mark appears.

Again, thanks for the input! Yes, I only have MW Embers for one. But plenty of UC’s to Epics. From my reading, there is no difference using the low-end Embers (except it takes more). Is that not your experience?
And I did get a third token on Temple of Scar*. And will repeat through week to get more. Now, I need to read up on it so I don’t mess up teammates on their score runs!
* are we supposed to get some intro to this in-game? I never did. But I’m pretty sure I haven’t gotten all the Sev dialogue scenes. Maybe I lost some not being around during Cataclysm?

Oops... I thought you'd craft lower tier stuff in the Tombs. I always head straight to the Masterworks pool. I guess it doesn't matter as those are the ones I have the most of anyways, around 27k or so... but I might spend some of the of the other ones as well, need to check this again. If you wanna read up on the seasonal stuff, heading over to Vulkk's guides is not a bad idea: Icetide Seasonal: Temple Of ScarAnd no, you don't get any of the secrets explained ingame

Beat ya to it. Watched it after my last post
But I had no idea what a "Grabbit Decoy" was, or why I should collect "notes". [... I probably pissed off someone in an earlier HoR daily, ooops] Damn. I really play BW games for the story. Yeah, I know it isn't the strongpoint of this game, but would wish they did a better job integrating the elements. Maybe they intended this, but I suppose economic pressures intervened.

Again, thanks for the tips above.
I've been doing enough dailies, especially the Icetide SH, such that I can purchase more than 50 Legos (through tombs + vendor), so plan to branch out to other javelins (which I've now toyed with a bit).
Q1: Any reason to get UC's from Yvenia vs. the seasonal vendor? The vendor has the benefit of not mixing in support gear (I'm happy with my Ranger ones, but still have other Javs to fill). Just wondering if one is known to have better inscription drops. So far my vendor drops have been meh.
Q2: I also bought one vendor weapon just to see what the "new" Cataclysm weapons are like. Got Jarra's Wrath. What's the general consensus on the value of these weapons? Should I try another few purchases?

Q1: It's not pure, generally speaking, Hershel gives you "new" stuff (that debuted with the first Cataclysm).
The tombs give you the original stuff … that existed at game release.
But there are exceptions … melee weapons can be purchased at Hershel's and in the Tomb of Gawnes.
Support gear can be purchased at Hershel's … support gear existed pre-Cat, but maxed at "Epic" … Cat raised the ceiling to Lego.
Universal Components can be purchased at Hershel's, even though they've existed from the beginning (modified in the Cat release).
Tomb of Artinia gives you lego versions of the original weapons.
Tomb of Cariff gives you lego versions of the original gear.
Tomb of Yvenia gives you lego support gear and lego universal components.
Tomb of Gawnes gives you the afore mentioned lego melee weapons and Javelin-specific lego components.
Missions at GM3 lego drops are at level 80 …
Again a hybrid … can drop melee and support gear, plus original weapons, components and gear … but not the new gear or weapons.
GM2 and below, legos top out at level 75.
Q2: Jarra's Wrath … pretty much like all weapons and gear … depends on the inscriptions as to whether or not you'll find it useful.
Generally speaking, a level 61 (masterwork) weapon's baseline damage is 1/2 of a level 80 lego weapon … but a level 61 MW with great inscriptions can be better than a level 80 lego with crap inscriptions. So you have to do the math if it looks close. That said, you can earn a fair number of crystals and get a fair number of lego loot drops on GM3 to get inscriptions that allow you to ditch your MW and go with the lego … eventually ditching your level 75 lego for a level 80 lego.
Getting the "last" piece(s) upgraded for your javelin is what can be frustrating … for my #2 pilot, I'm down to getting upgraded detonator melee weapons for my Interceptor, Ranger and Colossus … everything else is upgraded … but getting a specific item, with specific inscriptions, can take a long time.
