As long as we're still in the distancing phase, a government should want people to be more afraid. The danger is that people will keep spreading the virus. (Insert joke about current US administration here.) Yeah I saw the speech of Trump, I'm not sure if throwing all security procedures overboard hoping for a magical drug that cures it to simply pop up out of nowhere is the right approach to a pandemic. On the other hand, I do not know much about economy, if the containment procedures throw the US back into the year 1929 lots of people will be miserable as well. Though I think having droves of people die from the Virus would harm the economy a ton as well. I'm not sure it matters. An uncontrolled spread of the virus will crash the economy anyway.

I'm sorry to hear about it, Syv , I really am. I read today about a 21 year old with no other issues dying of this virus today. If you can handle it, please share with as many people you can your story, so that they take it seriously. If you can't because you'd rather keep your grief private, I understand. Sympathy either way.

I read today about a 21 year old with no other issues dying of this virus today. I saw that as well. That is terrifying. A 21 year in a remote, 3rd world nation dying from it? Sure, tragic, but you'd be hard pressed to find many people surprised by it. But from the UK? This is not just the "flu".

Do/did have a fever and I mean one that would be over 100 degrees?
Fatigue, have you been able to sleep? Can you take a deep breath, hold it in for a moment and let it out without any chest pain? I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure that last one isn't very helpful. With a given history of anxiety, and case reports of people breathing fine and then...not, very suddenly. and it sounds a bit like that silly rumor that went around that said, "if you can hold your breath such and such many seconds, you don't have COVID" that really put people in a place of assuming safety when it's not true. WHO listed Common symptoms include: Other symptoms include: - shortness of breath
- aches and pains
- sore throat
- and very few people will report diarrhea, nausea or a runny nose.

Pneumonia. I read that before COVID hits you full force, or if it does hit you full force, that you may have pneumonia when you try to do that test.
Its amazing that people are buying up toilet paper, yet number 2 issues is one of the rare side effects

Anyone know what the plan is after the cycle is over? Are we going to be social distancing and restricting travel until a vaccine can be administered? Seems like if we don't do that we run the risk of seeding an outbreak in a community that hasn't already had a high penetration.

It was always about flattening the curve so we could handle the sick and dying at a steady rate to avoid making triage decisions about who gets a vent (and causing more dying from lack of vents). It was never about avoiding people getting it. Everyone is going to get it eventually. My assumption from the news, at the moment, is that all of this will suck really badly until say, July? And then we'll get small ripple waves of comebacks as we let up sanctions and it finally reaches the more remote corners that I figure will keep happening until a vaccine is on board. I think the vaccine is due sometime 2021 spring or summer? Another thing that arrives before Dragon Age 4. Come on Bioware /s edit add: Americans need to be prepared for the possibility that COVID-19 could become a seasonal disease, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Wednesday. Fauci told reporters during a White House briefing that more cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus have begun to appear in the Southern Hemisphere, which is transitioning into colder seasons.
If there is an outbreak in the Southern Hemisphere, Fauci said "it will be inevitable" that the disease will make a comeback even if it is temporarily stopped.
New studies show that warm, humid weather might slow the virus — which could mean the pandemic will ease in the coming summer months in North America and Europe.
But Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a prominent member of the White House's coronavirus task force, said America needs to be ready in case it comes back in the fall.
"I know we'll be successful in putting this down now, but we really need to be prepared for another cycle," Fauci said.
He added that the current steps being taken, such as fast-tracking potential vaccines and drug treatments, will be essential to stopping the virus a second time.

Seems like if we don't do that we run the risk of seeding an outbreak in a community that hasn't already had a high penetration. My understanding is that the best-case scenario is that when we go back to "normal," distancing and lockdowns will still go into effect for particular communities which have outbreaks. So if you get tested and have the disease, everyone in your office goes home until they've tested negative, but the business next door works as normal. This requires a lot more testing capability than most countries have right now, of course. And phoray's right; in the long term we're almost all going to get it anyway.

Positive News & Thoughts
Depressed and disheartened by tales of the selfish, foolish, greedy, stupid and plain ignorant and the now ubiquitous "Raiders of The Lost Toilet Rolls" supermarket locust swarms? well here's the other side of humanity in the UK at least.
Thousands of Brits volunteer to help the vulnerable after Government appeal
In an appeal earlier this week the UK Government asked citizens to volunteer to help vulnerable people, they hoped to get 250,000 volunteers within 24hrs the number of volunteers now stands at just over 500,000. The helpers are needed for delivering food and medicines, driving patients to appointments and phoning the isolated. The scheme is one of a number aimed at relieving pressure on the UK Health Service.
In a similar appeal to former health workers 11,000 former medics have also agreed to return to the health service and more than 24,000 final year student nurses and medics will join them.
Seems old Gandalf was right "There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil"
Thank you to all the medical staff, scientists, delivery workers and volunteers in the UK and indeed all over the world, who are working so hard in the face of this threat. Your commitment, dedication and sacrifices are appreciated.

In more good news - my country is now at 27 recovered from 283 cases - nearly 10%, and still no fatalities. Although the point by phoray is a good one. Southern hemisphere is coming out of its summer, where people generally have fewer health problems anyway. Another reason the lockdown is well timed. Assuming people play by the rules, of course.

Do/did have a fever and I mean one that would be over 100 degrees?Fatigue, have you been able to sleep? Can you take a deep breath, hold it in for a moment and let it out without any chest pain? I haven't had a fever yet, no. Then again I heard not all cases develop a fever. I haven't had high fever since I was ten when I had the flu for the first and only time, that was 25 years ago. I usually have a super low temperature. I read that people with Hashimoto's don't get a fever often anymore. Which I think is BAD for fighting infection. My best friend often gets a fever and then bounces back the next day. I always take longer to get through stuff. As I said, my breathing issues seem anxiety related. I also have ongoing issues with blocked nose. Breathing doesn't hurt. As for the rest of the discussion, yup, it takes a while for this virus to hit you hard. That's why I've been so anxious. The second week is the critical one. That's when the virus moves to your lungs and wrecks havoc. Or not. Takes people an average of over two weeks since the onset of symptoms to die, I read. I believe that's why Germany had such a delay between the number of infected and deaths. The first cluster recovered and then it took some time for somebody old to become critical and die... A healthy immune system can overreact and attack healthy cells too. So being young and very healthy can backfire. I believe that's what happened with the Spanish Flu. It triggered this kind of overreaction in young men. So yeah, nobody is safe.

Week 4 of self isolation with my Mum....
If anyone could recommend a movie that a woman in her seventies will like, but that won't make me want to gouge my own eyes out with a spoon, I'd be grateful.
Last week was Knives Out which got a thumbs up.

Last week was Knives Out which got a thumbs up. There are a whole bunch of Jane Austen movies as well as a great miniseries of 'Pride and Prejudice' starring Colin Firth. This is a list of good old movies You may wish to check them out and see if any are of interest to you. The advantage of older movies they are often reasonably priced and sometimes even free (e.g. 'His Girl Friday' is out of copyright protection and may legally be downloaded for free). I usually have a super low temperature. I always thought you were pretty cool. Nice to have confirmation.

Meaning that your area hasn't been hit hard yet? Yes and no I guess. We're not hit very hard yet. We are preparing mostly. The teenage kids have classes from home. But both me and my wife have jobs to go to. Spare time is generally spent with the family anyway. I wash/desinfect my hands and arms a gazillion times a day anyway. And have refrained from handshaking since i became adult more or less. Not because of germophobia, more like "a wave and a hi" suits me more. Some people have a bizarre need for shaking hands though. When this thing finally blows over I hope we can drop all the handshaking with patients without them feeling awkward about it because it is better from an epidemiological perspective anyway.

Two members of my family caught the coronavirus. The first is an old uncle over 65 years old, deputy president of an evangelical church. Of course a lot of folks gathered in churchs and coming from a lot of places, that made it easier for the virus. One individual with the coronavirus able to transmit to others around him. Now all these people have to be found in the whole region and have to be contacted, so they could be screened by Coronavirus's test. Won't be easy. Probably a lot are having the same issues right now. My uncle fell ill and it suddenly and brutally accelerated, after a week or two, coughing first a little. His boss and friend, the president of the evangical church who fell ill at the same time as him, died two days ago. For the moment my uncle's health has stabilized. But he is far from being cured. The second case is my cousin's boyfriend, half german- half algerian, only 37 years old, but he had lung disease a few months ago, so that might explain why he is touched ( though it is demonstrated that even young people could catch the virus even with a good health. ) He was diagnosed positive for the virus ten days ago, but other than a cold, weakness and a few coughs, there was little to worry about so far. The doctors told him to remain at home and to take care of himself. Yesterday, his health suddenly and brutally declined, he had trouble breathing, now he's in the hospital, with a breathing mask. Obviously we can't visit them right now, and we are now waiting for more news. Best wishes for your family. Also, for you too Kappa Neko, hopefully you get better soon. And of course, for everyone else having difficulties in all areas of health.
