So, just to throw a question out there... how do you think Sera would react to your Warden and your Hawke? Would they get along? Would she find them stuffy? Think they're an arsehole? Fall madly in love?

Well, my Hawke and Warden were both men, so there’d be no romance. She’d find Niall Hawke a bit stuffy, though not in a way that she’d be obliged to do harm to him. He’d also find her too flippant and disagree with her views on magic (but not blood magic). They’d butt heads and she’d probably prank him at some point. Darian Tabris was a city elf, and upon learning of how he killed Vaughan, that would put him in her good books. She’d also be impressed that he romances the scary Orlesian. He’d also like her interest in taking nobles down a peg. Darian doesn’t share her more vulgar taste in humour, but they’d be pretty similar in other ways. Art Noveau Sera:

thats1evildude Lovely art! Your Hawke romanced Merrill, right? Now that'd be an interesting meetup. 😋 (Sidenote, I wanted to name my male Amell "Niall" but then there was that sorry sap in the Fade named Niall and it felt too weird to have two black-haired human Circle mage men with the same name in one playthrough. Goshdarnit!)

I used to hate Sera's guts, but I've opened up the game again after about a year and somehow ended up loving her. My Lavellan and her were off to a cold start but they're bffs now and I'm not sure how it happened lol. I still dislike some things about her, but it's what makes her complex and interesting and her positive qualities make up for it. I'm still kinda miffed about her post-Temple of Mythal dialogue with Lavellan. I wish there was some middle ground between "I am most offended" and "yah they're demons". My Lav was never crazy about the Creator worship and she started veering towards Andrastianism by the end of the game, but she still acknowledged that it would be hard on the elves, and that there's a great historical value in what they found either way. I wish there would be a way to express that without either taking it too personally or agreeing with Sera insulting Lav's people and their beliefs, but alas. I guess they can't cover every possible opinion that a player can have. That's because she suffered from self hate and she hated herself so much that she doesn't want to be an elf.

Sadie Alder from Red Dead Redemption 2 is totally Cowboy Sera. She's even best friends with a scruffy older guy with a beard.

What does Sera see in the Fade that isn't Spiders? Darkspawn? "And I saw nothing. Nothing. They were... like little empty things. Like there's nothing in the dark. No point. Stupid, right? That shouldn't be scary like... like it was. I'd have taken spiders." Her tombstone in Fade also reads: The Nothing.

What kind of character were you thinking of? I originally had a stabby dwarf type slotted for her but the more I got to know her, I think that dwarf was a bit too blood thirsty and power hungry to be a proper mate. I wanted to go dwarf because she says things she likes about dwarves without, I dunno, over fetishsizing them like she does Qunari which makes me a tad uncomfortable. Also Qunari does have as much story support as I like and I don't want to see her with a human and I wouldn't play a Dalish who would give up their religion for her- although a tragic story, I don't think the break up has any support in dialogue after so meh. So all I got is...Dwarf.

So all I got is...Dwarf. Yeah, some people feel that her comments towards qunari toe the line wrt fetishization, her dwarf comments feel like infantilization, her elf/mage comments are just insulting... it definitely depends on what you as a player are comfortable with and also how your Inquisitor perceives it. I've romanced her with several qunari and a dwarf (and watched the human and elf versions on youtube), and my characters are usually either flattered or (when it comes to criticism) don't take it too personally. With a dwarf, maybe go for a Cadash who feels decidedly undwarfy, who feels rejected by "true" Orzammar dwarves and had more of a rogueish thief or mafia princess vibe in the Carta than the super intense commentary on classism it can be? An Artificer might be fun. Someone who likes to build things and explode things and cause more lighthearted mayhem than genuine suffering?

It's just something that factors into a lot of my character concepts when I play Cadash/Brosca because of the whole Justified Criminal trope/casteless background.

They could be like Varric and this could affect them 0% or they could have hangups about it or feel resentment or any number of things. Just depends on who they are.

You can only play a dwarf from Orzamaar in DAO. Other than the appearance dialogue based on race, does Sera say anything different?

Hmmm... a lot of her varied dialogue is based on the Inquisitor's race (or being a mage). Her journal entries change a bit, also.

vertigomezCan you tell me about your favorite choice to romance her with (like what kind of character they were) and maybe one you didn't think meshed with her as much? Of course you don't have to go into tons of detail (feel free to), but essentially I'm asking you to gush about your creations for your love interest

vertigomez Can you tell me about your favorite choice to romance her with (like what kind of character they were) and maybe one you didn't think meshed with her as much? Of course you don't have to go into tons of detail (feel free to), but essentially I'm asking you to gush about your creations for your love interest Oh boy! phoray this must be my Christmas present, permission to gush about my faves. I'll try to be succinct. My canon Inquisitor for Sera is Adaar, and it's not her thirsty reactions which swayed me (I aaactually prefer her gushing about how squeezy cute Cadash is, because that shit is CUTE, though I do appreciate a woman who knows what she likes!), it's that Adaar is Vashoth and a mage.
This is a woman who's never really fit in anywhere. She's too alien and intimidating for the humans, will never be Qunari enough for the Qunari (also, too magey), and other Tal-Vashoth are often entrenched in their own pasts, struggling with issues she can't relate to. She finds (and loses) a home of sorts in the Valo-Kas, is thrust into the limelight as the Herald of Some Dead Lady, and then Sera comes along... Sera, who is so unlike anyone she's ever met, who feels as out-of-place as she does, who is unabashed in her attractions, who wants Adaar to be a good person but doesn't need her to be a hero (unlike, say, Blackwall or Cassandra). Sera is also vulnerable, scared, and quick to lash out - my Adaar is a calm, protective lady with a wry sense of humor who takes all of this in stride and sees something fierce and golden in Sera, something she admires, something to protect and nurture. Shame is not something that enters into the picture for either of them; there's a kinship there, and they're proud of each other. Adaar's main goals in life are to get paid, go to the pub, and help the helpless. She puts her soldiers before the mission, and has no patience for pussyfooting around delicate issues or kowtowing to nobles.
Overall she's got a much calmer temperment than Sera despite having a lot of the same values (to quote Cordelia of BtVS fame: "Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass."), so they complement each other.
*wipes sweat off brow* Whew, okay, now for the two that didn't quite mesh...
I had one dwarf who was just too dwarfy. Not that Sera ever said anything like that, but in my head I played her as someone who was very into surface dwarf culture, kalna and caste, she would have been FASCINATED by the revelations about the Titans and lyrium (whereas my Adaar would probably blink and say, "okay..?" if she knew the full extent of qunari-dragon-engineering). At the end of the day, being a dwarf and having that ancient connection meant something to her, and I think I just prefer Sera with characters who feel as lost as she does. I also had a Trevelyan for her that never got past Haven - she was going to ally with the Templars, retain the Inquisition in Trespasser - but I just felt like that character was too interested in power and position, like she couldn't relate to Sera on a "people" level because her ambition had her thinking two steps ahead all the time. I don't know if this helps AT ALL, but there you go.

(Almost) all of Sera's romance-related banter, minus the ones referring to a mage Inquisitor or an Inquisitor of a different race.
I'm so looking forward to this romance again! Alas, I'm determined to finish my current DA2 run and at least one more playthrough each of DAO and DA2. So uh, it'll be a while.
