Remove: the dumb rule that says every game must be a new character. Because I feel it highly limits story potential.

I'm thinking if we're going to Tevinter there won't be much in the way of mage/templar conflict. I'd love to see more new thaigs and dwarven lore, though!

Add: Lightsabers in all its science fantasy goodness ... so what if it's not appropriate to the setting I thought that's what the spirit sword was. My Knight Enchanter certainly felt like a Jedi as he took down a high level dragon and its minions all on his ownsome.

There's also the magic swords you can get in Trespasser that just have it as the hilt until you use it and a magical blade appears.

Add: Unique specialisation tree for each party member, based on their stated in-universe talents ala DA2. This! A thousand times, this. Isabela having a whole pirate themed tree, Merrill and her very specific blood mage + Keeper stuff, Justice being intertwined with Anders' abilities... all of that is so much more unique and interesting than..... Cassandra being a Templar even though she's actually a Seeker and Seeker abilities are explicitly different from Templar abilities. ~ Remove: Mounts, honestly. I know a lot of love went into them, but they stop party banter from triggering and you can fast travel pretty much everywhere, so it's a feature I can live without. Add: More diverse weapons! Like flails. And spears. We haven't seen spears since DA2. Actual daggers that aren't short swords! Axes that you can dual wield!

Remove: Romances, people are far too obsessed with them.
Add: More combat/specializations options. Give me a Puppetmaster spec where you have a Golem to fight with/for you, or a summoner where you call up various Spirits/Demons. Make a Zither-esque Bard/Mage. Give warriors spears/javelins, or some other long range weapon(s). People want a Monk/hand-to-hand type fighter, make a mage that can do that like the one Magister in "Tevinter Nights." Maybe make a basic rifle/gun weapon type (Qunari are invading and have gunpowder, Tevinter has the Ambassadoria and the Merchants Guild to reverse-engineer it). Make new mage weapon types. Go wild. We're going to the center of magic for the setting that's being invaded by one of the most technologically advanced races, now's the time to really make new gameplay options.

Didn't seem like it. Add: Capes as separate equippable items, similar to Greedfall. Remove: hats. Sorry bioware, but you prove over and over again that you cannot do hats.

Remove: Rectons Add: Original source material
It's better to evolve a story naturally than go: er yeah, that's not the case anymore, or, it was really always like that, we've...only just found it.
Retcons are far too obvious & a bad storytelling idea...plus one of the few things that genuinely offend me (think that's the writer in me).
My thoughts.

Remove: Overly human looking Qunari.

Going from DA2 'bat outta hell' Qunari to 'Look how they massacred my boy' baby faced Qunari was really jarring.

I don't think surprise reveals about assumptions being wrong counts as "retcon", and I'd happily retcon several things out of the DA series/universe (sort of what the whole thread is about), but anyway.
Add: base upgrades that serve a gameplay function (the herb garden in DAI was a good start, I'd like to see that expanded)
Remove: I am running out of things that I REALLY wish were gone, but I wouldn't particularly mind if they nixed all future cameos of characters from past games, including the protagonists. I'm not interested in revisiting characters or areas that were already thoroughly covered before.

So for a more serious idea I got a twofer.
Add: STEALTH.
Remove: Stealth.
Out of all the magic, demon possession, and weird alchemical tricks one of the most consistently un immersive things throughout the entire franchise is how they do stealth. Especially in DA 2 and DAI...so you break a bottle of something on the ground...which makes you disappear. And sure a flashbang type power might be really a nice substitute but none of that dissapearing stuff. Make it more like Ubisoft games or HZD where you are still seen and can avoid detection.
Add: Investigations
Remove: Having everything handed to you.
For a game called Dragon Age INQUISITION BioWare didn't let us do a lot of Inquiring. That should change in the sequel, let us actually figure things out on our own, even if its thread bare, rather ten just having Cole exposition what everything is and what the next part of the plan was.

rather then just having Cole exposition what everything is That reminds me: REMOVE: Having any character tell me how other people are feeling but particularly how I am feeling. That whole exchange between Cole and Solas about the Inquisitor after he broke up with them was irritating to say the least. Please don't force emotions and thoughts on me that I may not have. However, it also threw me having Cole talk about Dorian's memories of a former lover instead of Dorian being able to tell me about it himself; it didn't feel good to know second hand about his thoughts on that guy when he was in a relationship with me. To be honest a lot of what Cole said about other people's personal thoughts was just creepy, cringe making and made me feel bad for them. In fact, if he was so good at picking up on people's emotions, then he should have been aware that people don't like you doing this. Most of what we learnt about our companions inner thoughts did not come from them direct but via Cole, which means we were often party to their thoughts even if they hated our guts and would never normally reveal them to us. No, no, no!!! ADD/RESTORE: My companions telling me how they feel because we have built up a relationship of intimacy and trust, whether romantic or just good friends. For example, Zevran telling me about his former lover and why he really took the job against the Warden. That was meaningful and would have been totally ruined if a third party had just blurted it out.

Well I think in the latter case he had a habbit of telling things that people were uncomfortable in sharing or revealed stuff about their internal character. And this is meant to be compassionate because....? Fair enough if he talks with them in private and then suggests they tell the other person. It was also clear that in certain cases the writer seemed to think that making some of the more cringe worthy revelations about things people had done in private was meant to be humorous. Cole blurting things out being unsettling was one of the few things I agreed with Sera over and yet I was never given the option to tell him to stop doing it. In the end I decided on balance that I'd rather make him more human as this would put a stop to that sort of thing. If you keep him a spirit he just becomes even more creepy. Note: I also don't recall him doing that sort of thing in Asunder. I much preferred that version of him.

I don't think it's meant to be compassionate just as you pointed out humerous, shows his lack of understanding human social norms, and reveals interesting tidbits about our companions. It may be creepy but it does tell us alot and sometimes it's fun to play the 'what the hell is Cole talking about' game.
