Okay, so I hardened Alistair after the Goldana episode. Was I supposed to do anything else to harden him? I went to the Landsmeet, won the duel, and every time I try to accept Loghain into the GWs, Alistair ends up totally abdicating and I'm stuck with just Anora. Yes, I did get them to agree to marriage before the Landsmeet and Anora does support me against her father. Where did I go wrong? How high must my favorability be with Alistair? (I'm already at +83.)

I haven't played in a long time but if you talked to both of them then it must have been something you said during the Landsmeet. When you recruited Loghain and Alistair tried to take the throne so he could kill Loghain did you said 'I thought you and Anora were going to get marry' or something like that? If not then it was that. And I don't really know if you have to have a high coercion skill but maybe that is also needed.

And I used the 'I thought you and Anora were going to get marry' line. I tried following what I saw on youtube, but after the marriage line, Anora goes for the crown alone and it's either kill loghain or exiled Alistair.

If so did you tell her he agreed? That's all I did and they got married in the end. Try to raise Alistair's approval to +90 at least. I can't think of anything else.

You have to talk to Anora and Alistair at Arl Eamon's house and negotiate with them about marrying each other.

Success!! The problem with doing multiple PTs is that you stop talking to your companions because you've had all the conversations in previous PTs. In this case, I found I hadn't completely hardened Alistair. I took him to see Goldana and had the initial conversation with him about looking out for himself. But there's a second follow-up conversation where Alistair tells you that you were right and begins implementing the hardening. Otherwise, I had everything else.

I stripped Alistair from all of his equipment before the Landsmeet in order to make some coins to give to the poors. At least i made something useful with him for the nation before of his infamous attempt at desertion.

I don't really appreciate his tantrum on the warden when he is made king.
Your character allowed him to meet Goldanna and helped Eamon,Connor and Isolde and even made him into a king and saved him via Loghain and what he does to thank you?Give you a tantrum...what an ungratful little bastard, that's why i changed my old canon where he was a king and instead he became a drunk,i don't like people that do no respect their benefactors.

His hissy fit does annoy me, but given his background, he has multiple abandonment issues and Duncan and the other Grey Wardens seem to have been the only people he was in any way close to. Given that he serves you valiantly up until the time you consider recruiting Loghain, I'm inclined to cut him some slack.

I don't care about his past a everyone have their own issues not only "Alistair" and him wanting the crown just to kill someone just show how unsuited he is for being a ruler. He should have remained regardless of choice,I don't want to forgive these kind of persons. As a complete GW i had issues with both him and th e witch they were the two that gave me troubles.

Alistair becoming King was not an option for me,as i thought that my warden was better suited for the role.

I'll never forgive them for tying such a major and critical point of the game to a single line of dialogue which could be easily ignored, especially when it make you sound like a jerk and it forces you to play totally out of your character. Hardening Alistair in order to get the best possible outcome for my playtrough (when my character would never give him that answer after his personal quest) is probably one of the worst metagame moment that I can remember of.
