1) Equip weapon. 2) Pull weapon. 3) Aim weapon. 4) Fire Weapon. 5) Repeat until enemies are killed.

* Exoskeletons / power armor. Because we are already one power source revolution away from having soldiers in heavily armored exoskeletons / power armor. That is going to be a thing in the not so distant future. * Upgradeable drones. If recent real life events have shown anything, its that drones already play a major role in all kinds of combat situations - imagine their importance 200 years into the future. Make them upgradeable like the Omni-blade and limit/balance their use with with power cells. Flying observation drones, tracked drones with either anti-armor rockets or machine cannons, small tracked drones to use when boarding ships, industrial drones to open blocked passages, tiny airborne spy drones etc. Make versions that are remote-controlled and AI-controlled, or make it switchable. Small tracked drone:

* Exoskeletons / power armor. Because we are already one power source revolution away from having soldiers in heavily armored exoskeletons / power armor. That is going to be a thing in the not so distant future That's because sci-fi can predict the future. Does predict the future. * Upgradeable drones. If recent real life events have shown anything, its that drones already play a major role in all kinds of combat situations - imagine their importance 200 years into the future. Make them upgradeable like the Omni-blade and limit/balance their use with with power cells. Which then begs the question: why do we need people in power armor if you can send in drones that can do as much as a person? It's even better, because you could theoretically pick off your enemies without sacrificing your own people.

It's even better, because you could theoretically pick off your enemies without sacrificing your own people. I thought about this as well, and then it dawned me that there will always be actual human soldiers fighting in wars even far in the future because what do you do when a drone war results in most of your drones wrecked? Or if the enemy targets drone control directly? Or if you don't have enough drones to do the job? Or when heavy equipment like that is simply inappropriate? You have no choice but to send actual humans into the fight. Armed humans would be the last line of defense or a backup plan when things go awry. So in a gameplay scenario, send in drones first would always be plan A for obvious reasons, but then something happens, actual humans have to step in. Maybe add a geomagnetic storm (or space magic) that disables most electronic equipment or renders it mostly useless. Or having to support your drones by stepping in with a gun because whats better than a bunch of drones? A bunch of drones with additional support by highly trained humans. I can imagine a pretty good fun gameplay that switches between controlling humans in power armor and remote controlled drones. In any case, a game far in the future that revolves around combat that mostly ignores drones would be silly (and a wasted opportunity), there is no way around it.

I'm just putting this out there. Sci-fi will always do this and so will we irl. I guess you only "win" by killing off more of them than they kill of you.

Lore wise assuming you want boots on the ground you'd want to set up so story that drones are only effective at short ranges due to the ability to disrupt communications over long distances, or easier to hack them as a closer enemy unit will have a stronger signal or something. AI are out in the lore as is, so you are left with VI level drones which we face and easily kill.

As far as I'm concerned it should take a tip from Fallout 4, which had an almost perfect modular weapon customisation system which allowed weapons to be fully tailored to your preferred combat style.
I doubt we'll get anything that complex in Mass Effect, but I'd definitely like to see something superficially similar.

I would like Sabotage to work properly, and maybe have more evolutions for those who want to hack weapon systems vs AI.
Overheat gun should have an unique enemy reaction and animation. Same for Explode Ammo/Detonate Grenade - unique reactions, unique animations and sounds.
Weaponry should be an evolution of ME mechanics, and the I-X system needs to be airlocked immediately - absolutely rubbish RNG system unnecessary for an SP game. I do like the suggestion just above of highly customizable weaponry - to me, almost all ME guns should start from the same base components and be specialized by the specific parts that make them into a particular gun type. Modularity is a key piece of any intelligent future our species might have, so it would be really nice for something Sci-Fi to finally embrace this in game. Omni-Gel, but better.

It would be cool to be able to cause an enemy weapon to explode from something like sabotage or ai hacking. since thermal clips replaced the bottomless clip perpetually cooling weaponry of me1 and it would make a far better explanation than βgeth/guns kill people mmkayβ tucked away in the codex somewhere with some throwaway line about it somewhere in Mass Effect 2.
