Prince Rupert of BC is the wettest city in Canada, and Ocean Falls on the coast has an average of 330 days of rain a year. (Let that sink in...) *** BC holds the record of the largest number of Sasquatch sightings. The sightings date back over 200 years. I actually met a guy that genuinely believes they exist. A group of em went on a bit of an expedition to find them. Was an interesting conversation. They'd found empty mussel shells and they were in a remote area in the interior. Very far away from a coastal source, and somewhere that it'd be unlikely to find any other humans at all. Not terribly compelling but it's fairly weird. *** BC’s capital city Victoria, located on Vancouver Island, has an annual flower count at the end of the winter. Each year the community gets together to count more than one billion blooms. Mostly cherry blossom trees. We also send the count to our eastern brethren and politely ask them how many centimeters they currently have.

Canada has more lakes than any other country. The entire northern half are pearly strings of lakes and marsh. I knew some guys that did work up there in remote places in summer.(I only did one winter.) It's hell. All those lakes turn into mosquito and fly nests. One guy has a horror story of a mosquito literally squirming its way under a piece of duct-tape he'd used to patch a rip. Sounds ridiculous but the other crew saw it. Glad I didn't. I got to see deep frostbite instead though so... eh. Might've lost that one.

I'm mostly south-island for the past while but grew up around Langley/Surrey/Vancouver and a bit in Cranbrook. (Bleh...) I used to travel a lot for work around the province and up to Whitehorse and Alberta. Mostly by car or van so it was some fun road trips. Got to see a lot of small towns. I love Nelson BC. Ganges village on Saltspring island was nice too. Went through Duncan and Ladysmith a tonne to help the Nanaimo crew too. (They taught me to love beer and older women.)

Canada also has the most moose of any country. With all that shoreline and all those moose, how many moose actually take advantage of it and ride the waves? Surfin' Moose!

WUT??? I love resident alien I had no friggin idea it was filmed there. Now I have to pay a lot more attention to the town.
Yeah I know the island pretty well, I worked for 7 summers in a row at the big campground at cox bay near Tofino.
I know Cranbrook a bit as my patents lived for a few years in Riondel not far from there.

Yup filmed in Ladysmith. There's a current resident (heh) who has a few pics of them filming on the subreddit for the tv show. The main drag with the pharmasave is quite recognizable. I still can't place the Diner though. Looks bloody familiar.
They add mountains to the backgrounds a lot which might throw you off.

There's a Loch Ness type monster purported in Lake Okanagan called Ogopogo.

Seeing people share experiences about their country, I wondered if anyone here actually met in person. I have met two people from the forums. Many years ago on the old forums (before the original BSN) there was a plan for a gathering of American people. There was thread about that. I don't think the plan materialized. But, as an answer to that I started a thread about a similar plan for people meeting in Europe. About two dozen people were interested. One member was active in preparations, but in the end, people found excuses not to go. That member had a busy job and she was tired and really needed to have a little break. So we went ahead with the plan anyway. The lady was from Texas, but she lived in Paris for many years. Her husband, who was not a gamer, agreed to accompany her. Which was a good idea, because I could be a male creep, right? They took the train from Paris and I from Amsterdam. The plan was to meet in Brussels, because Belgium is in the middle of our countries. We had booked an apartment for a weekend in the center of Brussles. It was cheap, but surprisingly luxurious. There was even a lady who served and prepared us breakfast in the apartment. The Texas lady's husband (who wasn't a gamer) didn't speak much English (he was French), so he was a bit shy at first, but turned out to be an awesome guy. We had lots of great Belgian beer and we went to several restaurants. All in all, we had a great time. Several years later, on the old BSN, a member noticed that I was from Amsterdam and she had a free ticket to travel there. I think the idea was to see the Uitmarkt and she wanted a guide to see Amsterdam. And to my surprise sjpelke actually showed up on the train station. We walked in Amsterdam for most of the day, had some fast food, and we had some drinks in my favorite café (pub) near the canals. Somehow we lost contact. A few months ago there were severe floods in the southern parts of my country, where she lived. So I was curious if she was alright. Her WhatsApp still worked, so I contacted her. Sometime later she asked me to come back to this forum and that was what I did. And now, thanks to her, you are stuck with me.

Carnaval, it will be this weekend and a tradition that was started from folk but inherited by christian belief that is followed by a period of fasting after which Eastern follows en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_in_the_NetherlandsI hope the links work This year they are lucky. Most of of pandemic restrictions are gone now. However, there is still a restriction for gatherings of 500 or more people. Do you think that will have an impact on carnaval or do you think people do what they want anyway? The event I visited was restricted as there was a card sale for it. 2000 cards were available for the space that was set for it and it was sold out. It was great fun . It was not indoors and think the restrictions you mention are for events indoors?

Canada has more lakes than any other country.Canada has the longest shoreline of any country. I'm sorry to say this Beerfish but Canada comes not even close to the country that has the most lakes in the world namely Finland. Who has more lakes Canada or Finland ? According to Wikipedia, Finland has 187,888 official lakes (vs Canada has official 31,752 lakes) that each have an area of over 500 meters squared. Approximately 57,000 of these lakes have an area of over 10,000 meters squared. These statistics have proofed that Finland has the highest number of lakes.

The numbers I see range from 800k to 2million. Not 31k. I have no clue where 31k came from. That's not even remotely close and doesn't even make sense if you look at a satellite map of Northwest Territories in summer.

I think we could wave to each other across the unbroken Pacific if we go to the western/eastern-most portions of our respective islands. At least there's that. *** Seeing people share experiences about their country, I wondered if anyone here actually met in person. From BSN, nope. Although I found out a bit ago one of the MPers lives in my hometown. Had an aussy buddy of mine visit way back in 2006(or 7). That was pretty fun. He introduced me to Code Geass and we mostly sat around doing fuck all just watching that. I'd originally intended to show him around but he was quite happy to do none of that and just chill. Also randomly met a few people from World of Warcraft that lived in the same city. Couple of em came to a house party back in the day. (Way way back in the day.)

I can see people who live near Cape Reinga trying to do exactly that. Most of them partake heavily in the local flora.

Our national mens rugby team is nicknamed the 'All Blacks'. The myth goes that way back in 19 O-something, the team was touring Britain and the newspaper report on one of their games reported that all the forwards (big guys on the team) "ran like they were all backs". The myth hinges on the notion that the printing presses of the time smudged a lot and the "B" of 'backs' bled into the "A", and so to the casual reader, it looked like the words were All Blacks. In reality, they were just called the All Blacks because their playing strip was...well, black.

A tiny town in the middle of the North Island runs a gumboot throwing competition every year and has done since 1985 or 86. And it is as weird as it sounds.
