The duel looked fantastic. I know that by the looks of things, this isn't looking like a particular "historic" title, that's why they announced the 2 types of campaign modes prior to starting a new campaign: one classic, and another by default would make hero units being able to fight against hundreds of models on their own kinda like in Warhammer, to be on par with the Romance of 3K more so than historical facts. Honestly, that doesn't sound that bad, if/when I get the game, I'd definitely like to see that, for giggle purposes if anything.

It's a bit puzzling why they were not at the PC show yesterday. I mean, dude, if there was any a moment to show you ass at E3... They did one interview and that was it. Flew all the way to L.A. just to have a booth at E3?

I'm way behind everybody, but I started my first actual Tomb Kings campaign yesterday as Settra and I'm having a blast. Currently I control roughly half of the starting continent, wiped out Arkhan and now going for my third book of Nagash. Early on it's pretty damn rough to go against stuff like Savage Orc stacks with your shitty skeletons that can do little besides hold a line, and fail at even that when faced with infantry designed to chew through other infantry. The skeleton archers are pretty damn decent though. Not exactly elven archers, but quite good enough to be a key component in early armies, and even remain useful later on with ranks, technology and lord buffs. The chariots are also pretty damn great, especially for how early you get access to them and how easily you can start to field several. The Warsphinx is just pure sex, especially with a Necrotect to keep it alive even longer if something does put a dent in it.
Called it a day before I got to test it out in battle, but I have a brand new dynasty Tomb King lord recruited with an army ready that should be fun. 1 Lord, 1 Lore of Nehekara Liche Priest, 1 Necrotect, 4 Tomb Guard, 2 Tomb Guard with halberds, 2 Sepulchral Stalkers, 2 Ushabti, 2 Ushabti with great bows, 2 skelly archers, 2 Bone Giants, 1 Casket of Souls. No real mobility by skipping chariots and cav, but it's pretty much designed to just outrange everything and destroy things with the ranged units while everything else just holds the enemy off if they do get close enough to threaten my ranged units. Lore of Nehekara mainly to buff my long range bombardment even further, but I might swap in a Lore of Light priest for Net of Amyntok if my Stalkers & halberd Tomb Guard aren't sufficient to deal with enemy cav.

Started using the Steel Faith Overhaul mod, I think I understand why most people prefer it to Radius nowadays. Definitely a good overhaul. Yeah, my friend and I have just upgraded our mostly vanilla High Elf co-op campaign to SFO and the changes are very appreciated.

Yeah, they haven't learned a thing. First and foremost the game is looking less appealing to me by the minute and mostly for how little informative they've been. Second, they pull off a Warhammer 1 again, knowing exactly how the community reacted to the day one DLC fiasco that they tried to fix in WH2 by giving the buyers something tangible immediately if they pre ordered the game (DLC for game one), I think people were mostly okay with that. Yet here we are, repeating the past again, these guys just don't learn.

First and foremost the game is looking less appealing to me by the minute Yeah. Tbh this seems like an attempt to appeal to the Fantasy crowd and Historical crowd in the same game, and I just don't see either happening here. I'd definitely call myself a fantasy fan in relation to TW games, and I'm not seeing here anything that appeals to me in particular. Some nice graphics, but that's about it. Trying to appeal to everyone definitely incurred the risk of appealing to no-one. I suppose the game might have its own audience of people who like "The Romance of". Exactly! I actually saw a podcast/stream thing yesterday made by "the official blacklisted club" Arch, Legend of Total War, and Darren from Republic of Play (former CA employee), they were discussing all these recent events, and the whole idea to appeal to the fantasy fan base who like WH by adding some magic weird shit in 3K is actually not gonna appeal to them, and at the same time not appeal to the historical fan base either. So you end up trying to appeal to everyone and by that, appealing to no one. Announcing DLC when we don't even know how the game plays out is ridiculous. All we ever saw was a siege battle and some ambush battle. Interesting perhaps, but nothing really to get an idea about the whole game. Hell, we still don't know how units will work in the game, rumor has it it's not gonna be as it used to. Generals will come with a couple of units from the start, and you can't actually recruit units, instead you recruit generals and they come with some units on their own. So you end with 6 generals in the same army with a random plethora of battalions being perhaps cav, archers or otherwise. It's not quite confirmed because CA hasn't said a word about it, but there're some pictures out there that seem to indicate this will be the case.

So... Vampire Pirates on a game that does not feature ships? ehhm? excuse me? Okay, out of joke, I saw the trailer, they seem to have cool stuff. All factions in WH games seem to be so very much different. If only they'd translate that somehow to historical titles.

Yeah I've already pre-ordered the Vampire Coast DLC The new army and features all look to be fantastic additions to the game but, like many people, I am a little disappointed that the pirate faction won't actually be able to use their boats in combat. I get why CA is holding off on implementing such a mechanic; since if they make navies for the Vampire Coast they will have to make them for every single playable race/faction in the game. But it's still a little disappointing that we will only have "Schrodinger's Islands" when we decide to fight a battle at sea. Still, I am very grateful for the addition of being able to actually fight those battles instead of just auto resolving all the time; that and the unique siege map when attacking Dark Elf Black Arks sounds very intriguing. Fingers crossed that we will finally get some naval warfare in game 3. Speaking of naval combat in Total War games though, I am really surprised that the Three Kingdoms isn't going to have any such feature. Considering that the largest naval battle in world history was fought during that conflict I would have expect to at least have Rome 2 levels of ship gameplay.

Yeah, that was a huge disappointment if I ever saw one. CA is just so hit and miss these days it's not even funny. Not sure if it's monumental laziness or one of those shitty "marketing" decisions or maybe both. They know naval battles are shit, but you don't just take the feature out of your game like that, you're supposed to improve it. I think they adjust their budget way too much, they have say 10 million (random number) and naval will cost 2 "extra" million, they're like NOPE and call it day.

To those interested, TW Warhammer franchise on sale on Steam.
Also free Yellow Turban DLC on pre-order of TW 3K... a shame we get to deal with only the aftermath of said rebellion aparently.
I won't be surprised if they continue their DLC policy with this game.

I've never been one for pirates in fantasy settings, but this DLC is definitely turning me around on the subject. I really like the Shanty... So far all the lords are extremely interesting (to me) as well. Luthor Harkon is the only one confirmed so far, he's going to be a very strong anti-magic lord, the others are likely to be Aranessa Saltspite who's basically Warhammer's fucked up take on "the little mermaid", Count Noctilus who's basically a Vampire who made Warhammer's version of "Davy Jones' Locker" into his own personal realm and source of power, and a new character called the "Siren of Storms" who's likely to be a ghostly caster of the new Lore of magic. Very, very cool. I have to admit, as much as I have been bummed about CA's release schedule being drawn out like this, I am actually glad that they are taking the time to give us quality content instead of just releasing half-baked DLCs at full price. Have they said which game one faction is going to receive an update to coincide with this release?

Have they said which game one faction is going to receive an update to coincide with this release? I don't think so. Though I suppose they might use the opportunity to update the Vampires as a whole. Maybe. I would say that they need it. So far CA has been good about avoiding power creep, but feature creep is definitely becoming a problem for the older factions. They feel so bland and boring in comparison to the latest releases, which is understandable given that the newer DLCs are building off the foundation laid by the base games, but as it is there really doesn't to seem to be any draw to play a mortal empires campaign as the Empire; unless one is a huge fan of the faction.

Got TW: WH2 on sale with the tomb kings. The tomb kings was the selling point - wouldn't have looked at it otherwise. Tomb king gameplay was kinda mixed. I probably didn't do much of the magic stuff right. Super long siege times - I couldn't bring myself to play sieges myself - that part of TW went really downhill over time. I played a siege defence once, it seemed glitch free.
After Khemri playthrough started Dark Elves. Kinda got stuck and lost interest. Dark Elves didn't really blow me away with the lore ever. I get that it's the chaos equivalent to humans, but the level of sadism is kinda unbelievable for a society. Even a fantasy one.
So I started rat people. Skaven. This time I'm trying to make more use of the abilities. So far I like them.
All in all impression: Good production quality. In fact very good. Gameplay is solid. UI sometimes gets in the way of doing things, but is mostly just annoying only. A bit thin on the race selection, but that is SEGA for you. Worth a buy on sale, imo.

And I eneded up with another playthrough of tomb kings. I kinda dig them. I bailed out of skaven when I just couldn't be arsed with one you surrounded and we keep throwing waves at you story mission. Warp throwers weren't that impressive neither. And then came the lizards with loads of large beasts. And this was on easy campaign I had nothing really to counter.
So I went back to the jungle with high Queen Khalida. She loves her goddess so much, I had to keep playing. Prepared for a strike against a very large lizard faction. Four turns in and they did the confederation with their buddies. Now things will become interesting. Currently chasing a fat lizzie army with lots of Bastiladons. I assigned 3 armies for that fat one. Unlocked the Shadow liches - they are worth it.

I just couldn't be arsed with one you surrounded and we keep throwing waves at you story mission. Do you mean one of Lord Skrolk's quest battles? Sometimes Quest battles are somewhat hard for the army you have, depending. If you are about to fight Lizardman as Skaven, you definitely will have trouble if you only have skavenslaves and clanrats. Ideally to face the Lizardman (in the campaign, not PvP, there the tactics are different because of point limit) I would take a heavy front of Stormvermin with halberds (good Vs. large and also Vs. armor), some death-globe bombadiers and some warp-lightning canons to focus on monsters, and some flankers / line breakers to take them from behind while they engage your front line. Obviously some magic is ideal as well, poison, debuffs, buffs, warp-lightning, etc. Depending on the caster you have access to. You could also be cheeky and try to kill their lord with an assassin if you have one, just make sure he isn't swarmed... It's not as helpful against Lizardman as it is against Vampires or Bretonia, but getting rid of a Slan Mage priest casting at you, or any other lords and heroes, is always helpful. Yea, there's about 4 Halberd in all the armies. I had 1 of them in encounter, 1 warp cannon and three warp fire throwers. rest was mostly clanrats and slaves. I dint build any gobe throwers.

I've tried dark elves but with what the sea battles being auto resolved I had some trouble figuring out what the ark is supposed to do and how to make it survive. it's a pretty hefty drain on the early budgets and I saw no way to raid with it and it's garrison alon coasts.
