Wrapped up a Skaven pt with a defeat at the vortex. The artillery was my favourite. And deathglobes, ohh boy. But overall too squishy. Glanced over elf campaign. Massive missile power. But went back to Grand hierophant. I guess the non-Vortex campaign and undead just suits me better.

I couldn't be arsed to reload the final skaven battle, but the skaven are so nicely voiced that it'd be a shame to not play them.
Had a look at the gameplay stuff from the vampire coast and it looks interesting. Also doesn't have the vortex as main objective. i rather like playing at me own pace.

So far the Bloated Corpse from the Vampire Coast unit roster is looking like it's going to be one of the memeiest units of the game... A thick boi running into the middle of your formation and blowing up, wiping out everything in a small radius around it... I saw one guy on YT using a bloated corpse to wipe out a unit of depth guard (the new all-vampire elite infantry unit - absolutely vicious in most melee fights, with high stats and regen while in melee), which is basically the best use for it. On the other hand, if the enemy manages to poke your boated corpse a bit with range firepower, it's going to melt very quickly, and if it's close enough to your units, it WILL damage them... So high-risk - high-reward. Also, that thick boi running to give you a hug is quite the visual...

Played a little game last night as the leader of the Dreadfleet. Really liking the mechanics of the vampire coast so far, and it's really fun to start in the middle of the ocean and go wherever I want, setting up pirate coves and the like. Bloated corpses are also my new favorite unit. Nothing quite as satisfying as micro-ing them to an enemy's flank and then just dissolving three quarters of the group in an explosion of bile and putrid gas

Old time Total War player here about to have a bout of self indulgent nostalgia. Used to buy CA games up until Rome 2, unfortunately for me I bought Rome 2 on release and that experience of a shockingly broken unplayable game led me to give up on CA and the series. I still play the old games including Rome 2 (which is a vastly different experience now) and still write steam guides for Medieval 2. However it's not my intention to be negative in this post, so to rephrase Shakespeare's Marc Antony: I come to praise Total War not to bury it. Nostalgia incoming.
One of my favourite features of the early Total Wars were the epic soundtracks of Jeff Van Dyck. The composer created some really atmospheric, immersive and dynamic soundtracks especially seen in his battle music which injected a real sense of pace, tempo, drama and urgency. Personally speaking I would say that he was as important to the Total War series as John Barry was to James Bond and John Williams to Star Wars. Highlights of the Rome TW soundtrack for me would include the tracks: Warrior March, Mobilize, Imperial Conflict, Mayhem, Melee Cafe, Army of Drums, Divinitus, Greek Intro, Journey to Rome and Forever. When I play Rome 2 it's with the Rome 1 music mod installed.
Rome TW OST (Full)
Warrior March: The marching and closing with the enemy track...
Melee Cafe: Great with cavalry......
Mayhem: When all hell breaks loose.....

Oh, it's fine. Most of us will get where're you going. I love the franchise too, but my god it went to downhill with the latest games. People may say all they want about WH, it's fun and all, but it's the most simplified game they put out ever (after Thrones, for what I've heard...). This is probably the best example of a franchise or a game that I love, but I admit is shit. BTW, I've been looking of what they're doing with 3K and actually, what they showed about diplomacy and all is not bad at all. My hype levels were zero with that game, but I am now intrigued to learn more about it even though I still remain skeptical.

Yeah the 2013 disastrous release was the last straw for me what with the Blood DLC and "streamlining" to pursue the casuals. As for "toxic" community that others have mentioned that all depends on which Total War community you're talking about there's more than one, It's not fair or accurate to lump all TW players together. There are different community "factions", this can be seen on Steam different TW game forums can have a completely different tone from one another eg the civilized and the unwashed barbarians.

I was lucky, I wasn't there for the shitshow of a release Rome 2 was. But a lot of people lost what little faith they had left after that game, and Attila didn't help at all. Warhammer brought a different audience, works for them, but it doesn't for the core fan base. As for community relations, eh, same can be said for pretty much all games. TWcenter used to be a place CA would go, now they don't want to do anything with it (kind of like Bioware doesn't want to do anything with us, that's why they closed the old forums). I guess they look at Reddit now, which is funny, because that place doesn't particularly have a good track record. I would mention their own forums, but I've yet to see any dev answering for game bugs after years of being posted there.

Yeah I know and I completely understand the commercial logic behind it, they're a business and they need to keep earning as much cash as possible to keep SEGA happy. It's just the reality of gaming in general today, I understand it but that doesn't mean I like it.
Remake the world of games to a better plan........perhaps

I prolonged my playtime with the Vampire coast and it is easily a favourite faction beside the Necros. I mean Tomb Kings. Gun heavy. Mortars. Cannons. And crab monsters to round it off and compensate for the squishyness. They are slow like ass tho, but overall fun to play. Also nice to just sail around and do your thing.

I'm beginning to think Attila is a better game than Rome II.
Byzantine Empire, more badass Persians, ultimate barbarians AKA Huns, no/less Roman and Greek degeneracy and no historically inaccurate female Generals.

It is, just like Napoleon is better than Empire. Rome 2 was like a Beta version when released. The patches it needed then.... . As their publisher, SEGA received a lot of flak for rushing CA to " finish " the game.

That's when Total War lost me. I only came back recently with Warhammer 2. Still not really thrilled about the next big title. Had considered thrones of britannia this sale but I think Stellaris was maybe the better option.

The use of redshell didn't do them any favours either. Not sure if they they removed it in WTW or WTW2 ?
60 euro's for TW3K and selling the Yellow Turban Rebellion as separate DLC ( free if you pre-order ) leads to raised eyebrows as this is an integral part in the history that more or less started it all.
Meh..

Medieval II has some great mods. The old LOTR mod The Third Age is ever popular particularly in combination with the Divide and Conquer sub-mod which is still active, maintained and updated. For anybody interested in installing these mods I recommend you watch these installation guides from one of the modders behind Divide and Conquer. Third Age: Installation Guide

TW Three Kingdoms delayed for 3 months... Additional polish or cutting content for dlc ? Who can say. Second delay (first the game was scheduled for fall of 2018, which shows how little idea they have of when the product is gonna be ready). I reckon it's because even they know there're some pretty game breaking bugs and they can't release the game in that state. The cutting of content was done already in pre production I'm sure (blood, maybe naval stuff, etc). However, that means the game will release with less bugs, so I guess it's a good thing.

Unless they tinkered with the scale just for the trailer, that big-ass dinosaur surely has to be the largest unit in the game yet.
