Yes not Andromeda but bear with me (is that the right spelling of bear?)... aaaaanyway For those of you living under a rock (or those of you who are not as space nerdy and you think you are) that Nat Geo miniseries has gone live and its really interesting about sustained, long distance space travel... Ok to Mars but you know still interesting bits to spark the imagination for settlements on hostile worlds Its a mix of drama and real science but all the science in the drama bit is 'right' (unlike the martian film... which was enjoyable as a movie but not a futuristic sci fi movie) www.space.com/2398-race-red-planet-production-begins-mars-mission-mini-series.htmlIt's on Nat Geo channel now and there is this associated website... remind you of any sites you've visited recently www.makemarshome.com/landingSorry if this topic should have gone somewhere else but I'm watching this and thinking about the Andromeda Initiative just for the lulz

I watched it last night! You can view it online if you want to. I liked it. The acting impressed me; the writing is not that great, but the actors do a good job with a very generic script. I'm not too into the "generic white dude" main character, but at least it seems Hana will be a fairly prominent character (I'd have preferred her as the main). Don't get me wrong; I'm not anti-white guy lol I thought Matt Damon in The Martian fucking hit it out of the park. But that's Matt Damon. You kind of have to rise above mediocrity if you want to stand out as a white male lead. And this guy didn't. He honestly felt like the lead character in a video game. Blah.
I don't like how he's narrating the entire thing as if it's already happened; that doesn't leave me in any real fear that his injury will kill him. But then again, maybe something freaky will occur at the end and we'll realize he's narrating this from another dimension or something LOL
I like how they are splicing it with real life footage from 2016, but tbh it feels a bit too much like propaganda... trying to encourage the audience to see how important it is to fund space flight and space travel. And I obviously agree with this message, but it's just a little too on the nose for me.
That seems like a lot of criticism; nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the second episode!

I watched this last night and plan on tuning in for upcoming episodes. I do like the present day footage and unscripted interviews spliced in with the drama of the Mars mission but the switch between the two felt a bit abrupt at times. I think the scripted drama part is well done and I like the characters for the most part although I wish they gave a little bit more of a backstory for them during the episode. It looks like we can view their backstories online but I didn’t get a chance to check that out before last night’s episode. Unrelated to the actual show, but I was a bit upset that the credits had a song by Nick Cave and as soon as it started, ads for the very next show started playing over top of the song.
I see a lot of references to The Martian in this thread and just wanted to share this. I had to explain to a co-worker that The Martian is a work of fiction. She saw the movie about a year ago and was asking me if I remember any reports on the news about this astronaut being left behind on Mars. She told me she remembers this actually happening about 10 years ago and was happy to see this person’s story finally being brought to life. After I got a nose bleed, probably from my brain trying to escape, I calmly explained to her that it’s a work of fiction, the book and movie take place in the future and there were never any reports of this on the news except during Oscar season.

She is also convinced that she saw the Loch Ness Monster while visiting New Jersey last year. Let's put aside the whole does it exist or does it not exist, but I believe the word "Loch" means "Lake", which means a large creature left a lake, crossed over land through Scotland, and then swam to the United States and decided that the Jersey shore was the best place to visit. I wonder why my eye twitches so much during the work day? Beerfish I saw Santa at the mall last week, he totally exists.

Did anyone get a chance to watch the webisode Before Mars? It's about Hana and Joon as teenagers and gives a little back story to relationship. I just got a chance to watch it and thought it was a sweet story. I would love if every cast member had one of these short background stories as I think it would help the audience connect to them.

Um...she's only responsible for the care of patients in a psychiatric practice She's actually professional and on top of things with patients and I'm her supervisor so I would shut down any bizarre conversations that may arise. It seems to be when we have down time and she's bored that she decides to bring up things like this, thankfully, we're pretty busy throughout the day.
