Yesterday Mark Darrah posted this picture on his twitter account: The tower's position on the chessboard is E3. Is this a subliminal message where he's suggesting a date of a big announcement? What do you think?

Yeah, the position of the piece actually wasn't E3... Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrahSemi vindicated: it's E6 (or c3 from the other side) HOWEVER, the trolling was strong with this one yesterday. But with the chessboard... maybe he's hinting at a DA Tactics Game, rather than DA4? And with the images from all 3 prior games, maaaybeee he's hinting that the Tactics Game touches on those 3 time periods...?

Next E3 is way too early for DA4. Possibly too early for Secret IP too. I don't think BW will be showing anything other than ME:A DLC by then, hope I'm wrong.

We've got the poll , the Mark Darrah trolling (or not!) with the chessboard , and they also got the guy from Sunless Sea /Fallen London. This guy IMHO would be more suited for this type of game, at least judging from what he used to work on. Those weren't games with heavy dialogue or extremely character driven. He was working on what I'd call "vignettes", like something you'd find on the War table for example. So yeah they might be working on a Strategy Game and it should be easier to make and quicker to release than say a DA4. Anyway it's all theories and as usual time will tell.

It occurs to me that these could somehow be marketing for other DA stuff like comics or a book. Still, the developer teasing does make me think we could be looking at some type of tactics game. Kinda hoping we could hear about it in December, but they might decide that would detract from Andromeda's gameplay reveal. If they are working on a tactics game, I would expect it to be produced by another developer in collaboration with Bioware rather than strictly an in house product.

So either EA puts one together again, or they look outside to someone else... It's possible they are working on a Tactics Game . Come to think of it, I could see EA deciding that a new strategy game studio would be better off with a licensed property than striking out with a new IP off the bat, built in audience and all that.

I might have understood it wrong (english is not my first language), but in that recent podcast with Mike Laidlaw it seems like he talked recently with the guys behind X-Com? Maybe I need to rewatch that to be certain.

I hope we get something DA4 related at EA Play 2017. Even if just a short tease..."Coming in Fall 2018!" I would be happy .

Next E3 is way too early for DA4. Possibly too early for Secret IP too. I don't think BW will be showing anything other than ME:A DLC by then, hope I'm wrong. I don't think it's too early at all, especially just for a reveal. DA:I already came out 2 years ago, and a 3-year cycle is pretty standard for games. While it might take a bit longer for DA4 to come out (say a year after ME:A), they're using the same engine. Having to work from the ground up was probably the main reason DA:I took so long to make, though going through iterations that had to change or cut content because of oldgen consoles didn't help. This time, they're used to the engine, already have tons of assets to reuse (as DA2 did with DA:O), and don't have to worry about oldgen consoles. So I'd say E3 2017 is definitely not too early for as little as a reveal trailer.

But now you have to factor in there's another (#Secret) IP in the mix, and the bulk of the DA team is working on that & MEA right now. That'll likely shift early next year with MEA wrapping up, but the Secret IP will still be in the mix for a while yet, so I have a feeling it's gonna be more like... ~2019-ish... before we see the next DA.

So I'd say E3 2017 is definitely not too early for as little as a reveal trailer. Sure, but I didn't mean that it's too early because they couldn't have something ready, but rather than, given ME:A will be at its peak by then, they'll probably want to focus on it and its DLCs. Add to that their change in marketing approach, leaving most info for the last few months before release (I suspect this will mean they'll start revealing their future games later in development than they've had until now, but this is mere speculation), and the fact that Secret IP is probably closer to release, so if anything should take some time from ME:A it should go before DA4, and I find a reveal of DA4 in the next E3 unlikely.

I agree that if the Secret IP is comparable to DA4 or MEA, then it would definitely affect the release of DA4, but I think 5 years between games is too long for a successful franchise that isn't a reboot, etc. In Game Informer's interview with Mac Walters, he states "Its been a long time since the last Mass Effect." Long time = 5 years. It is a long time for a continuation of a story - a long time to keep the player base interested. For us extreme fans, it wouldn't be a problem. Many of us have enjoyed many playthroughs, but we make up a small percentage of those who will play the game. I wouldn't think they would want to wait too long. Edited to add: I was looking at my Steam library - and it seems 4 years is a norm between story lines that are continuations, but many of those didn't leave cliffhangers in the prior game (Trespasser - I'm looking at you ). I need more DA...its beginning to slip.

Bethesda goes long periods of time between releases of its major franchises (and sells just fine), so I don't think the extra wait would necessarily hurt it. I suspect this might also be the reason why they put the feelers out for a DA Tactical Game - to have something help fill the void between releases (and grow the franchise). Add to that comics and probably novels too. They've also been talking to Failbetter Games, so I suspect we'll see something DA-y from them as well. If the next DA ramps up early next year, I can't see them creating a new DA in under 2 years, that's too quick. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a holiday 2019 release.

I cannot deny that you have a definite ear to the ground, so I can't help but to be easily swayed by your argument - which makes me sad . I seriously need to see what happens with Solas! I do hope they give us good material to keep us afloat until then - I didn't care too much for the Magekiller series. I need more "what now" material.

On one hand, yeah - long waits suck... but on the other, I'd want BioWare to take their time in this and do it right.

Next E3 is way too early for DA4. Possibly too early for Secret IP too. I don't think BW will be showing anything other than ME:A DLC by then, hope I'm wrong. I don't think it's too early at all, especially just for a reveal. DA:I already came out 2 years ago, and a 3 year cycle is pretty standard for games. DAI took so long?It was released in 2014 while DA2 in 2011,just 3 years.

Actually, if you compare the release dates it was closer to 4 years.

It is 4 years for DAI. The same is going for MEA.
On topic, I think it may be the DA tactics game they were previously talking about. As for DA4, news on that may be released after the last MEA DLC is released. That's if they're working on those two projects.
