Lets play a game! That's a cartridge from every gun I own, now guess the calibers! (Also every round in the picture I handloaded myself)
12Ga, X, 7.92x57,7.62x54, X, .357, .45, 9x19
Yes, No, Yes, No, No, No, Yes, Yes 7.62x54r has a very distinctive rim, this is just a 7.5x55, and its neighbor to the right is the .308! Also 44-40 ain't no .357! I give you one more because I love you bastards so much. These are some rounds I collected and some from guns I no longer own. 9mm on the far right as size reference point.

Jesus Christ. Far left looks like a .50 cal, but I kinda doubt it is.

Jesus Christ. Far left looks like a .50 cal, but I kinda doubt it is. Considerably smaller, but with about 75% of the effective range!

Not to spoil the fun for others (since I'm kinda confident in my answers ) From the left: .300 Winchester Magnum. .303 British. Some Russian 7.62mm army rifle cartridge, "Nagant"? I believe. .223 Remington aka 5.56. Next, I'll go with .454 Casull, though it looks big. Next, another mystery, I'll go with .32 S&W long here. Next I think is the Russian 7.62 round they used in their WW2 submachineguns and the Tokarev pistol. .22 Winchester Magnum. And finally - does it or not look shorter than the 9X19 above? - I'll still go with 9mm Parabellum, as that is what it looks like to me, more than .380. (though it perhaps doesn't look quite right as 9X19 either, so maybe a mystery cartridge) :EDIT: - Oh you told us it's 9mm Parabellum!

Vid of Ian shooting an M1917 rifle (.30-06) at an 800 yard target. For those of you that don't know, this was the most common infantry rifle the U.S. used in WW1 and was derived from the British P14 enfield.
I definitely would prefer having one of these over a Springfield rifle ^

Not to spoil the fun for others (since I'm kinda confident in my answers ) Excellent! You got most of them:
Everything correct, up till the revolver cartridges! The big one is a .500 S&W and the small one next to it a .38 Special!
Today I shot my Howa 308 precision rifle, so far so good. Thats 5 shots at 100 meters from the bipod. The flyer was a result of my eyes getting tired in the last shot, I felt it wasn't an ideal shot right when I pulled the trigger.

I don't know why, but .500 S&W never entered my mind. I thought it looked big, but I could see it was a revolver cartridge, so I dismissed .50 AE and didn't really consider .50 any more.

So i was looking up .25ACP pistols and I came across a rather promising one called the HP-25A. It has a 3" inch barrel(so you can squeeze the most out of the cartridge), actual sights unlike most .25 pistols and the best part? It's below $150 USD. I must say that makes it rather tempting with my being a fan of John Moses Browning's cartridges. Review of it: I've shot a .25 pistol once and It was almost akin to shooting a BB gun in terms of recoil ^

Since you are on the quest to find the smallest handgun you can possibly use, why don't you go with 22lr right away, lavo? .22lr is way more viable than .25, both in price and ammo availability - (and both suck terribly in every way compared to 9x19, .40 and .45) In fact, .22lr is so cheap you can absolutely blast away with a .22 pistol, whereas with the .25 you'll be MUCH more limited in your training. Besides, there are some pretty accurate and cool .22 pistols out there, the same cannot be said about .25.

In all seriousness, I've considered a .22LR pistol, more specifically a high cap revolver(like with 9 rounds or so) for max reliability before. Even better if it has swap out cylinders the other one being a .22 Mag cylinder.

a good .22 is rarer than rocking horse shit, I mean there are dozens of semi auto pistols in 22 calibre but most of them have issues when it comes to reliability...
some of the best are target pistols and there not really much good for EDC or CC due to being large and skeletonized... of course if your just after it becasue it looks cool as shit and is super cheap for burning ammo then you really cant go wrong....
personally I dislike revolvers since reload takes too long, then again if your in a situation on the street where your primary load isnt enough chances are reloading isnt going to be your biggest concern/

A .22LR and/or .25 auto gun would be pure range toys for me, I already have the LCP2 (.380) for my subcompact needs when I'm wearing britches with pockets too small for the .38 snub or Beretta 81.

Recently ol' Paul did a series on the use and merits of Double Action revolvers for personal protection, which is useful for those that use 'em for CC and PP like myself.
Personal Protection: Double Action Revolvers Part One (Accuracy)
Personal Protection: Double Action Revolvers Part Two (Reloading)
Personal Protection: Double Action Revolvers Part 3 (Ammo Capacity)
His technique of reloading a revolver where he points the muzzle up and slams the ejector is something i'll have to try with my 638 snub, since it has a short ejector rod and some of the casings only partially extract. It's not so much an issue with my .357 and .44 with their full lengthed ejector rods.

M1 Garand armor piercing tests! its the layers that change the characteristics of the round penetration not the thickness of the lump of metal, if ther was a single solid lump of metal at 1" thick the round likely would have penetrated it without any changes to the exit hole size... however taking several thinner plates bolted together would likely lessen the penetration depth of the ap core.... this is due to reverse pressure caused by the second plate (since its not part of a single simple mass) this is also why vault doors moved from several feet thick solid mass to hundreds of layers a foot thick.... but aside from that it was interesting and informative

That's why i try to watch Forgotten Weapons and other channels on Full30 instead. Main reason is that they are actually allowed to be monetized on there.

Today at the shooting range I got bored shooting slowly at 25yds, so I put the target forward to just 11 yds and shot an entire magazine as fast as I could while still aiming, I was totally blasting it and I still managed to keep the entire magazine in the black. I rarely do speed shooting, but its good for practicing self defense. And its fun.

Have any desire to purchase a revolver Beet? Yes, I totally want Taurus 6'' or 8'' in either .44mag or .454, unfortunately I can't have one. Here handguns are limited to 2 pcs. / person, getting a license for more than 2 is very hard. Which is quite idiotic, I only have two hands so what does it matter if I have 2 or 200 handguns? Firearm laws, grrrr, made by confused senile old politicians.
