I put my previous re-reading of Anansi Boys on hold, and picked up American Gods again (by Neil Gaiman, as well) to refresh my memory (read it several years ago for the first time), while now also watching the tv series based on that book. I can also see that people who have not read it, may view the series more trippy (and erratic) than it is. So, at least to me, feels like the tv series was made for fans who have read the book, too.

I'm revisiting the Harry Potter series atm and am currently halfway through book four: I realized that the book is almost 17 years old. Which made me feel terribly old, too. I was the about same age as Harry was in the book when I first read it in 2000. Still loving it though. Awesome! I did revisit the whole series last year, and I was extremely amazed how the books "grow" with the characters. You really notice when you read one after the other, it's a masterpiece. And it's insane how much of the subtle humor, wonderfully drawns side characters and side plots you forget over the years. As for the topic, I picked up a book which I wanted to read for ages, cause I think it's one of the books you just have to read at some point: Jane Eyre So far, it's not what I expected, but I still don't know what to make of it. I kinda like books that don't reveal themselves to me right from the start though, so I guess I'll see.

I finished The Prophet. I enjoyed its lessons, even if the stories seem more like the setup to its lessons than a reason to read it in the first place. I'd reccomend it highly. Short read, Big payoff. I'm currently working on Magus, and I see why it's divisive. It's dressed in both pretension and debauchery, but lacks a certain je ne sais pas in its writing and themes that something like The Great Gatsby held. I enjoy it to a point, and it helps fill in the time of floppin mah tootsies from left to right. Since I'm all of 10 pages in, don't consider this a final verdict; I didn't care for the first few episodes of NGE either. I'm sure there's plenty other words flyin' around somewhere .

I was getting kinda star warsed out (heresy, I know), so I moved to Columbus day. So far, so decent. The story is good enough to keep me wanting to see what happens next. But I can't say I'm in love with any of the characters so far. That said, I've read far worse novels then this one. So I can recommend it. It just doesn't get me raving, like the Lost Fleet did (god that series is awesome).

Well I just finished 'Demons' by Fydor Dostoevsky. I've now read three of his novels and will read more. Very good author and very good books but certainly not happy happy joy joy novels. All have had a general air of depression about them.

Currently about halfway through A Game of Throne, next I'll be reading Tales of the Witcher: Sword of Destiny, then Welcome to Night Vale, after that I'll probably get around to finishing The Devil is a Part-Timer before reading The Color of Magic.

Wait - what's with the other four books from A Song of Ice and Fire? They are all pretty awesome! Except for the very detailed descriptions of food and banners/sigils, which become a bit tiring over time. (My favorite is the sigil of House Tumberry. This is only a picture, but don't read the according wiki page, it has spoilers for A Feast for Crows.)

I am now going to start reading som Ian Banks books for the 1st time. Also, I have a real bone to pick with introductions/forwards for books, mostly older classic literature. They always spoil the damn book! I don;t want to know about the real life events that occured that you are going to detail that inspired the author before hand thus spoiling big parts of the book! (rant over)

just finished reading this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019OS6YIA/ref=series_rw_dp_sw well I re-read it all and then read the latest 5 books from the new series as well, I wont spoil it for anyone in case your interested but I find he leaves just enough detail to the imagination to make it work pretty well, although he does have some tendencies towards sjw nonsense its not totally unbelievable /

I just finished "Nine Princes in Amber" by Roger Zelazny. Enjoyed that series. Corwin and the shadows. Can't remember which book it was in but have you met a character that reminds you of one in DAO:AA yet. What did you think of it if you don't mind me asking? I`ve only read the first book (it`s the only one translated into my language at the moment) but i enjoyed it, the plot it`s interesting and i liked that the characters aren`t good or evil but something between. I definitely want to read the following books. I can`t think of any characters in the book that reminded me of any DA characters but i can be really oblivious about this kind of thing . Which DAO:AA character do you have in mind?

I dont know if I have mentioned this series but the latest book is hitting in July, wooo! I love this series.Link to the first books in the series: Two DemocraciesStruggling with newfound sentience and desperately trying to repair itself, The Indescribable Joy of Destruction is a ship trying to find a new home. In a galaxy torn apart by generations of civil war, that isn't an easy task. Tired of being used as a killing machine, it has a huge decision to make: hide and save itself, or help other artificial intelligences achieve freedom. Unable to make the decision alone, it revives the sole human aboard - the enemy officer who crippled it.
Commander Olivia Johnson wakes to find herself in the infirmary of a strange vessel. Her nightmares deepen when she discovers it is the ship that attacked her destroyer. Even as she recovers from her physical injuries, she can't get past her survivor's guilt. She might have failed to protect her crew, but she vows to take revenge on their killer.
When the ship uncovers a genocidal plot by the commander's own admirals, Johnson realises just what is at stake. Together, the AI ship and the human officer must recruit outsiders from both sides. Training the misfits in battle to prevent the atrocity may be an impossible task, but running and hiding is no longer an option.

Baen books never fails me. This looks like its going to have my lungs committed to no air. View from the Imperium P. G. Wodehouse meets space opera, as Ensign Thomas Innes Loche Kinago, fresh from the Academy is given his first command. A crumb from the upper crust, he's eager to uphold the traditions of his family, and in particular, his mother, a distinguished Admiral of the Imperium. Of course, he's aware of the importance of always having simply smashing tailored uniforms on hand, and having his camera ready to record memorable moments for his scrapbook. In the meantime, a charismatic leader has arisen who seems able to control the minds of anyone he meets, and may be on his way to taking over the entire galaxy. Can Kinago's aristocratic bearing and unbridled snobbery stand up to such a challenge? Fortunately, his constant companion, the unflappable Jeeves, er, Parsons, is on hand to look after the young, impulsive master, and somehow help his charge bumble his way through, perhaps even saving the galaxy in the process.

It might not be the most manly set of novels, but I'm doing by bi-annual re-reading of Jane Austen. The stories aren't remarkable in of themselves. But the characters she creates, and the wit of the author is undeniable. Every couple of years I get an itch to read all of them. This time, I'm reading the annotated versions by David Shapard. The amount of stuff you don't get about a culture from 200 years ago is fascinating. Next up, I'm going to have to read Jane Eyre. I just wish I could find a good annotated version. That book is very rich in subtext. And it has passages in french and expects you to know the language, like a lot of classically educated people did. After I'm done with that, I might dive into that Two Democracies book. That one sounds a little more action-oriented.

Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage. I think the hate directed at this series is mostly undeserved. People say it's too violent (?) and has too many characters, and while the second point does have SOME merit to it, the first one just baffles me. It's a story about a mass-murdering psychopath going on a mass-murder spree, and Spider-Man has to decide whether his no-kill rule remains a good ideal to hold in the face of said mass-murdering psychopath killing a ton of people. Another complaint is that it's too long at 14 issues, and while I do kind of agree with this one, it doesn't really bother me because about everything else is so good. The artwork is nice, and save for a few slumps in pacing by cutting between Spider-Man and co. and Mary Jane (who for some unholy reason was absolutely superfluous to every story she was featured in in the 90's so every single scene to ever feature her just kills the flow of the story and action), it's well-told if you don't mind the inherent cheese in the comic book medium. People can call Carnage a one-note villain, but I actually really like his dynamic with Spider-Man and Venom. If Venom has all of Spidey's powers PLUS knowledge of Spidey's personal life as Peter Parker and uses that to his advantage in his villainy, then imagine what kind of absolute carnage (not a pun) and mayhem a symbiote like Venom's could cause on regular, everyday non-powered people, to the point where he forces Spider-Man and Venom to team up to bring him down. Also the artwork in the series is pretty consistently good, largely managing to avoid the 90's comic book Liefeldian misshapen human anatomy, and despite the series originally taking place across several titles, it manages to keep a consistent style to the art as well. Also Spider-Man and Venom are by absolute favorite Marvel characters, and I love the symbiotes, so any story featuring them will be one of my must-reads, even if it's absolutely terrible like Planet of the Symbiotes.
