dazk The Expanse Novellas are interesting sidequests, and the kindle price isnt too bad, but Id either wait for a collection for them all or if you can get them on kindle. Plus check to see if your library does have digital copies, I know state side lots of them are renting out ebooks now. Thanks fiannawolf I ordered my kindle yesterday (yippee ) so will check out whether the Novellas are on its library when I get it. I read The Expanse "Origins" and enjoyed it but it was very short and cost as much as a paperback book!!! I'll also check out our local library, they are pretty up with the times tech wise so they may have them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just finished this book. What did you think? I liked the different narrators telling their version of events. Did you guess the culprit correctly?

Just finished this book. What did you think? I liked the different narrators telling their version of events. Did you guess the culprit correctly? He more effectively used the various narrators in his other book 'The Woman in White' which I would recommend. I liked the various narrators a fair bit to be honest. Something different and I think he was pretty skilllfull in the way he does it.
Yes I did know the culprit fairly early in this one. Unlike some things in 'The woman in white' which had some legit surprises.
I have just started another of his books, this one....

So onto the next Harrington book (Almost done!) and not even a chapter into it...or exactly one chapter into it so not much to report on. But War of Honor was indeed a well deserved return to form, the last few have been a little...stale. But the political decision and the slow descent into catastrophe on both sides thanks to ineptitude and political maliciousness was quite well done. Weber has created a rather unique situation where one does not really want either side to go to war considering there are so many awesome characters on both sides of the firing line. Its tragic. A bit surprised how much he 'cleaned house' at the end of the book, and it felt like that is exactly what he was doing. Also the end battles was a bit underwhelming and rushed feeling, but still an excellent book all things considered. Look forward to reading At All Costs, shit is going to hit the fan.

First time I'm reading Lovecraft. After all the hype around his style of unknowable horror, I'm a bit disappointed, I admit. Not sure what I was expecting. Probably something a bit less... vague. I think the problem with reading Lovecraft today is that he got copied so often that his style and ideas feel less creative and original than it all was at the time. Mass Effect's reapers were inspired by Lovecraftian horror and I found them scarier in their uncompromising inescapable brutality than anything I've read so far in Lovecraft's stories (I still have the majority of his stories to read, mind you). Mostly because these ancient beings don't really DO anything so far. And if they do for once, the reader never learns what. Just that people died. And I don't find that very scary at all somehow. (Please, don't stone me for my opinion...)

I did really like a couple of them. The 1st one I read of his works 'Rats in the Walls.' was pretty freaky.

I tried once or twice to read some of his short stories (i think i read chtulu at least) and wasnt impressed. Not my cup of tea anyway, so not really a signicative advice. Atmosphere is pretty amazing in the role playing game though. I started a new autobiography from the frontier, it s really good ! And it s quite amazing to read a direct report of the white vs indians relationships, as it has been so much fictionalized i had absolutely no idea how that played in late XIXth.

I am currently reading a French thriller called "Le Parfum d'Adam", by Jean-Christophe Rufin. It is ok, enjoyable. Nothing special tho. As soon as I finish it, I'll start Kafka's "Metamorphosis", as I have never read it although one of my favourite reading (and film ) is its novella called "The Trial".

So till on my Expanse Binge. Having read all 8 available books and eagerly awaiting number 9 decided to read the Novellas that go with the books. Just started: Iakus and seven finally got my Kindle Paperwhite and bought all the Novellas on that, thanks for your help in getting me across the line in buying one. I am actually enjoying reading on it more than I expected and have already saved myself over $60AUD in the cost of books.

Good to see you're enjoying it! I've been eyeing off a newer kindle (solely for the light factor) but don't know if I can justify it just yet 😅

I've been eyeing off a newer kindle (solely for the light factor) but don't know if I can justify it just yet 😅 That's one thing I am really impressed with, I have tried it various light settings and its great. I was tempted to go with the "Oasis" due to the Adaptive light sensor and the page turning buttons (but it was over $100 more) so when I saw that the Paperwhite had the same Adaptive Light sensor just went with the cheaper version.

Felt kind of comedic somehow. This wacko scientists whose creations run amok, one who remains somewhere out there. And all through this his narrator buddy just tags along out of a weird sense of duty despite his revulsion, the moron!

Description: Jordan Peterson is believed by many to be the greatest thinker that humanity has ever known. He is Father Figure, Philosopher-King, and Prophet to the millions of young men who are his most fervent fans and followers. He is the central figure of the Intellectual Dark Web, an academic celebrity, and an unparalleled media phenomenon who has shattered all conceptions of what it means to be modern celebrity in the Internet Age.
He has, by his own admission, thought thoughts that no man has ever thought before. He has dared to dream dreams that no man has ever dreamed before.
Of course, Jordan Peterson also happens to be a narcissist, a charlatan, and an intellectual con man who doesn't even bother to learn the subjects upon which he lectures. He is a defender of free speech who silences other speakers, a fearless free-thinker who never hesitates to run away from debates, difficult questions, and controversial issues, a philosopher who rejects the conventional definition of truth, and a learned professor who has failed to read most of the great classics of the Western canon. He is, in short, a shameless and unrepentant fraud who lacks even a modicum of intellectual integrity.
But is Jordan Peterson more than a mere fraud? Is he something more sinister, more unbalanced, and even more dangerous? In Jordanetics: A Journey Into the Mind of Humanity's Greatest Thinker, political philosopher Vox Day delves deeply into the core philosophy that Jordan Peterson advocates in both his written works and his video lectures. In doing so, Day methodically builds an astonishing case that will convince even the most skeptical Jordan Peterson supporter to reconsider both the man and his teachings.

I finished 'Poor Miss Finch' by Wilkie Collins. Not a bad book, had a couple of very good characters but the ending irritated me. The villain got off far too lightly. Rankled me.
Time to go back to some sci fi books from Victorian.
