Did you read The Liveship books? I found those a bit hard going but I really liked The Soldier Son books.

No, i have never read the Liveship or the Soldier Son books because there`s no translation in portuguese yet , i don`t mind reading books in english from time to time but i prefer to read a translation.

Am currently listening to Bram Stoker's Dracula on audiobook, read by Richard Grant. It always amuses me when the Count is presented with a Slavic, rather than Latin accent. Knew a Romanian girl once who found it infuriating, on top of the character having been invented by an Irishman. It's really getting me into a gothic mood. Might start Bloodborne up again soon if this keeps up. Wish more RPGs dared to delve into those kinds of settings and themes.

Finished The Lady of the Lake, so now I'm finally at a place where I can pick up the games again. I still have Sea of Storms to read but I think that's a collection of stories farther back in the timeline, whereas LotL ends with Geralt and Yen shipped off to Neverland by Ciri.

I'm glad to hear that you're reading these. The craftsmanship in those games is so much more apparent once you've read the books. They took liberties with some characters (looking at you, Triss), but the devs were very clearly devoted fans.

I'm glad to hear that you're reading these. The craftsmanship in those games is so much more apparent once you've read the books. They took liberties with some characters (looking at you, Triss), but the devs were very clearly devoted fans. Absolutely. Hearing that Andrzej Sapkowski disapproved of the games was immensely sad, because they're very clearly labors of love and an ode to his postmodern vision of mythology and fantasy. And while things like Geralt's amnesia and Triss moving in to take Yen's place seemed a little convenient and unnecessary back in the day, I've come to treasure them as part of his continued story. Reading the books as an adult, Geralt's and Yennefer's dynamic reminds me a lot of one of my closest and most disastrous past relationships, in all the good and the bad ways. The games giving him a reprieve from that intense, turbulent connection, and then giving the player the choice of whether of not to honor his original priorities or try to make a clean break and find himself a less all-consuming and embittered relationship to make him whole instead is a really powerful roleplaying tool. To my mind, the quest The Last Wish in 3 as written is the perfect cap to his and Yennefer's development in the books, and reading the books is the only way to understand the profound weight of it. They either free themselves from the unnatural binding they always chafed under to try to live together as man and woman in love just like anyone else... or they face the root problem that always soured their connection and deal with the fallout like adults, truly discussing their feelings and mourning their failed relationship together instead of running away from each other in frustration as they used to. A stunningly affecting moment either way, entirely due to the long history between them that permeates the novels.

So skipped the book I was going to read and started the Honor Harrington Books by David Weber and finished Book 1 last night. I really enjoyed it, she is a great character and after reading The Empire of The Bones Saga it was good to not have any space magic to solve problems. Bit intimidated by the number of books in the series though!!!! The Honor of the Queen is probably my favorite of the series. Grayson is cool.

Expectations are high you are the third person to tell me that!!!!!! With Empire of The Bones did you think it lost the plot a bit in book 7 and 8 with the alternate reality characters, teleporting devices etc? I thoroughly enjoyed them but it all got a bit to easy and there were just too many characters and especially once you add dopplegangers!!!!

Yeah as I said I didn't mind it, it just seemed to allow for too many convenient solutions but book 9 definitely brought it back to a more even keel in terms of new space magic being introduced and rather focusing on the story. Man I knew there were a lot of The Honor Harington books but I think just discovered as Amazon are having a sale exactly how many. Are there actually 19+ books? At least they are a quick read!!!! EDIT: so there are 14 primary books I think I just discovered and 32 total works.

I'm just missing Treecat Wars. My collection of books is sitting here and there. Unearthed some old series from the 80s and 90s yesterday. Some of the books were given by a friend who cleared space for her storage some 20 over years ago so I ended up with a whole slew of SF books by Sharon Green. Tis a funny thing to read them because of a certain theme that keeps occurring again and again that I generally skip those paragraphs and went on to the main adventure. However, ignoring those, the stories aren't bad so I got the The Blending and The Blending Enthroned series in the 90s which has interesting magic concepts.

Speaking of Grayson I just realized probably my *other* favorite Harrington book, Flag in Exile, also quite heavily focuses on Grayson. Not that the others have been especially bad or unreadable they are all pretty good quality. Just on the other end of the spectrum are 'In Enemy Hands' and 'A Rising Thunder'. Edit: Actually now that I am thinking about it 'In Enemey Hands'...half of the book was good and had a good storyline and it probably had the best and most tense battle sequence in the entire series...if its the one I am thinking of.

I've seen the Netflix show last year, so there's that - but even if I know the story, the book had me instantly hooked. A really good read. Love how real everything feels, though I have no clue if it's because I've seen the show or because of Morgan's writing. Doesn't matter in the end, I really enjoy it, especially the depiction of the characters.

Novels: On Basilisk Station The Honor of the Queen The Short Victorious War Field of Dishonor Flag in Exile Honor Among Enemies In Enemy Hands Echoes of Honor Ashes of Victory War of Honor At All Costs Mission of Honor A Rising Thunder Uncompromising Honor Short story collections: More Than Honor Worlds of Honor Changer of Worlds The Service of the Sword In Fire Forged Beginnings Saganami Island series (spinoff) The Shadow of Saganami Storm from the Shadows Shadow of Freedom Shadow of Victory Crown of Slaves series (spinoff, coauthored with Eric Flint) Crown of Slaves Torch of Freedom Cauldron of Ghosts Star Kingdom YA series (prequel, main character is an ancestor of Honor's. COauthored by Jane Lindskold) A Beautiful Friendship Fire Season Treecat Wars Manticore Ascendant (prequel series. Coauthored by Timothy Zahn) A Call to Duty A Call to Arms A Call to Vengeance Do you recommend reading the non-primary books? Of the spinoff series, I have only read the Saganami Island and Crown of Slaves books.I liked them well enough, and definitely tie in to the second half of the main series. Though to be honest, after Echoes of Honor, I found the quality of the books dropping off a lot. I don't wanna spoil things, but the series takes a new direction that I found a lot less interesting.
