Iakus you recommended I think The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. I also saw that he has another series The Lightbringer series are they at all related, should I read one before the other? Cheers I believe the two series are unrelated. I read the Night Angel trilogy, and it's pretty good, though it runs kinda dark for my taste. I only read the first book of the Lightbringer series. Thought it was kinda meh. But maybe it improved as the series went on.

I started the second Witcher book. I really liked the first one. But I bought the second one in English, since I do finde the German translation abit meh sometimes. So far, I like the English one better.

The pieces were there but I wasn't putting them together. LOL. Though some of it is open to interpretation anyway.

Made short work of Azimov's The Caves of Steel over the weekend. I bought 3 others with it, next one being The Naked Sun.

I'm preparing a Cthulhu adventure for our role playing group, which cuts into my reading time. I really like book Geralt though, he has a great humor.

Yes, robots theme. The first 3 I bought all involve the same two main characters, and the last one is set farther in the future.

So finished The Divergent Trilogy and thank god!!!!! Seriously it wasn't too bad but by the last half of the last book the sheer stupidity of the main characters was getting tiresome as was the on again off again romance and the will they won't they do the deed. Seriously definitely aimed at teenagers!!!!! Was slightly shocked at the ending but did see it coming, too many clues dropped in what took place between certain characters. In summary it was OK, rated it on Amazon 3 out of 5 and felt I was being generous but given its target audience I think that would be a fair assessment from an adult. Had my first disappointment with The Amzon/Kindle store, found a sequel to a paperback I had and that I was keen to read but it was $18 then looked it up and the Australian paperback price is $35-99!!!! Went straight back and downloaded it!!! The first book is called The Stars Unclaimed by Drew Williams, whenever I fly I randomly buy myself an unknown book and this was a really good one. I love the story and the main character, she's great as is the ships AI. Looking forward to reading the sequel to see where it goes as the first one ended the threat they were facing but there were a lot of other avenues for the author to pursue. geekdad.com/2018/09/5-reasons-to-read-the-stars-now-unclaimed-by-drew-williams/

The Caves of Steel The Naked Sun The Robots of Dawn Robots and Empire
Many of Asimov's works can be slotted into a more-or-less coherent single continuity. These books are in the future of the "robot" short stories, and Robots and Empire, as the title implies, bridges this era and the later Galactic Empire/Foundation era. (Stopping at The Stars, Like Dust, etc. along the way.)

Thirty years ago, the world ended. Giant electrovoric ants and pterodons came through a rift in space-time, millions of humans died, and that was that. Without electricity, human ingenuity has provided some creative work-arounds to the energy problem, but most people survive at subsistence level.
For Chuck Gordon, the simple life of a rancher was enough. But then he met a mysterious dying stranger and now he’s on the road of destiny across America accompanied by a warrior monk, a beautiful dragon tamer, a runaway cultist, and a mystic drunken lecher—all searching for the key to reclaiming humanity’s past—and future.

I just take a short break from the Witcher universe, because I bought an adventure book for Call of Cthulhu, called Schreckensherrschaft, which means Reign of Terror in English. It's a campaign set during the French Revolution, a time periode, I really like. I promised my group to gm this adventure, so I have to prepare it. And it is so creepy, I love it. It has ties to the campaign Horror at the Orient Express and can be played there as a longer interlude. But it works well as a stand alone adventure. I can really recommend it so far.

Thanks! Always open for more scifi to read I put Lem on a pause for a moment, and got back to PKD: (Love the japanese aesthetics) After watching the series to end, I decided to read the book. Why this way around? Well, I was in the middle of another PKD book when the tv series started..

I was spoiled by a longplay of the game itself, but I guess the game had more choices than the book - its quite out there one.

right now I am reading the first Witcher book (in German) and liking it very much so far. My husband bought all 5 books for me - all in German so I guess I am stuck with that translation... though I kind of like the sometimes "old" sounding words and phrases, quite fitting for the setting but Plötze!? as a name for a horse ... roach sounds so much better
The German translation was ok, but things like Plötze were strange (or Rittersporn, I think the translation from the polish version would have been buttercup or Butterblume in German....maybe not so nice a name for a male bard ). I bought the ebooks and the English ones were cheaper, so I switched. I have one of the later books already at home. I got it back in my days when I was working for a bookstore from the publisher dtv. The books are really pretty, this one (it's Das Erbe der Elfen) has a nice slipcase and really pretty cover artwork. Oddly enough, "Plötze" sounds much more like the original Polish "Płotka" than "roach" does. All three words mean the same thing though - it's the name of a small red-eyed fish.

How do you know the original? I poked around the interwebs for opinions on which translation was better, German or English, and the majority seemed to favour the German translations, among them some Polish readers who were proficient in all three languages. This is one of the quoted examples that I remember.

Third on my list of books I judged by their cover from one of the Economist's book lists is Milkman by Anna Burns. I liked it, so far the Economist is batting 3/3. It's occasionally funny, occasionally surreal and generally insightful in that hyperfocused way of zooming in on a psychology navigating a context that always seems to wind up saying more than the books aiming for the grand summation of human nature. It also had one of those quotes I kiiind of want to have tattooed on me but everyone keeps telling me text tattoos are a bad idea so I probably never will and it's: a major componential in the downfall of myself.
