Considering Finn's original thing was for Rey...
Seriously, that TLJ hack tried to fuck everything up, just because "it wasn't what people would expect"...
...sometimes, people expect things because they make sense, they're good, and have been suggested to be so in the past.
So naturally that hack had to introduce a very disliked character (dunno about the actress) and make Poe flirt with Rey at the end.
As opposed to, you know, Finn keeping in with what he started in the first movie and Poe getting a new character with whom he would seem to fit, if you absolutely must (tbh, Tallie Lintra - do I remember that right? - was my guess when I first saw her... but then, once again, expectations were fucked up the ass with no lube, not because they had something cooler to do, but for the sake of it).
Jesus. Sequels could have been decent. Maybe not as good as the other two trilogies, but they could have had head and heel, damn it.
I still believe that if they kept the same director for all three, it would have been better than what we got... or at least had someone who hasn't gone off the deep end.

Sadly, it sounds like their intention from the start was to leave the first two trilogies in a shallow grave to avoid paying Lucas royalties. Thus why we get "The First Order" and "The Resistance" which is just the Rebel Alliance and the Empire with their serial numbers filed off, for example. Why Luke and Han are rendered irrelevant and summarily killed off. Only now, when it's to late, are they starting to realize what it means to be keepers of a legacy.

Only now, when it's to late, are they starting to realize what it means to be keepers of a legacy. Now that they act like it's ending and they think they can cash in double on people's nostalgia by throwing in extra callback moments, you mean. Having touching moments with the few original characters they didn't throw in the garbage. Dragging every spaceship model ever seen in the franchise out of their asses for a big final CGI battle battle nobody asked for. Teasing that they're paying homage to the great character that brilliantly orchestrated every tragedy in all the other movies, lending them some coherency and consistency, while their own have just been a cavalcade of people randomly screwing up on the job to such an extent that that character's leadership would honestly have been a relief. I liked Finn and Rose for each other. They're both pretty clueless, and it's kind of adorable, as much as any pairing is in these movies. The "I'm going to prevent you from saving the world by doing something that should realistically have pulverized the both of us, for love, and treat it like a triumphant emotional victory for me" thing was beyond stupid, obviously, but it's not her character's fault that the writers are even more clueless than she is.

Rose's character is tainted to such a degree that it's rumored that most of her action figures share the same landfill as the E.T cartridges. This is a testament to TLJ's writers' unholy talent because not even Lucas with Jar Jar shat the bed so hard.

Honestly, Jar Jar is immensely preferable to Rose.
He may have been an utter klutz, and was incredibly annoying, but at least in the final battle of The Phantom Menace he actually managed to help the Gungan army with his rampant stupidity.

Alright, I am currently watching the prequel material in preparation for Fallen Order (after that, I'll continue with the main trilogy and so forth and I think the timing will probably work out to end up watching Las Jedi just before the new one in January). Ani-way (see what I did there ), seeing Ep1 again makes me really wonder what good ol' Geaorge was thinking here. The first half of the movie is a full-on kids movie. Then, when they reach Coruscant, it somehow morphs into a politic drama there for about a half an hour before going back to a passable showdown in the end. It's not entirely bad, I just think the main problem is that the elements that were used here don't really fit together very well. Ep2 on the other hand could probably actually be a fairly nice movie if it weren't for Hayden Christensen. This guy somehow manages to be some sort of anti-actor. Granted, the lines he is given aren't great to begin with but the amount of creepy rape faces he throws into this movie is frankly astonishing (and disturbing ). I can barely fault Natalie Portman fro not pulling it together in this "romance". Did no one ever do a chemistry test on those two during casting? The rest of it is actually not that bad. I like all the Sith intrigue and the action sequences. CGI seems a bit cheap for todays standards but I guess it was pretty good in 2001. Right after I played the first third (Geonosis campaign) of Republic Commando. It still is a really good shooter, even today. Ironically, this shooter about expendable clones is just about the only FPS ever where I really get a sense of personality from my NPC squad mates. "Sev, Scorch and Fixer" are actually really relatable characters and they build a great dynamic throughout the game. Then I started to watch the Clone Wars series (started with the movie of course). I hadb't really seen any of this stuff before and I have to admit, it took me while to get used to the hideous visuals of the characters (as well as the different voice actors, whom I will grant that all of them do a decent job at imitating their movie star counterparts). Also, to be honest, the plot lines and dialogue so far seem more like second rate fan fiction than actual canon material to me. But then, I guess this was made for kids, so it has to be a little more "simple". I do like some of the space battle scenes, it's actually pretty much the one thing that keeps drawing me back. After seeing the first season, I am not sure I'll take it all the way through (although a friend already told me that it gets better as the series progresses). In any case, for now I'll see how far I get till Thursday, at which point it'll be Ep3 (which I am looking forward to, I remember it being by far the best of the prequel movies) just before Fallen Order hits on Friday.

Some of the plot lines weren’t remotely continued consecutively.

In any case, for now I'll see how far I get till Thursday, at which point it'll be Ep3 (which I am looking forward to, I remember it being by far the best of the prequel movies) just before Fallen Order hits on Friday. That was kind of why I started with the original movies. They're good fun, but nowhere near as impressive as they seemed like as a kid, and getting that out of the way first thing makes both the prequels and the sequels look a lot less garbage in comparison. There's no doubt that both are lackluster in different ways, but I'm dead certain that at least 30% of the hate is because we tend to glorify the original movies. Like you I started on Clone Wars after watching Attack On the Clones, and I gotta say I'm really impressed. Some of the storylines are pretty childish, yeah, especially in the first season, and I half-sleep through those. But a lot of the episodes and arcs that focus on the clones themselves are very well-written, really funny, and full of unexpected poignancy and introspection. It feels like that's where most of the gold is. And it's interesting to get a better understanding of the Separatists and their reasoning beyond just Dooku and Grevious. Besides which, Count Dooku is my favorite Star Wars character of all time, and seeing him get to snark and smack the plucky young heroes around for years while single-handedly funding a galactic revolution against the corrupt paper-pushers is beautiful. It's also nice that the series puts more emphasis on the different characters' lightsaber styles, like Dooku's rapier-fencing-like Makashi dueling form, which is more in evidence than it was in the movies despite Christopher Lee having been a trained fencer in his youth. And Anakin - who acts like a sociable and intelligent and sane human being for the first time since he was ten years old - relying on bold and aggressive power attacks while Obi-Wan sticks to tight and efficient defensive stances. It's the kind of subtlety and character expression they never have time to do right in the movies, and which really helps with the immersion. It's also fun to see how the Jedi take to military command in different ways, given that it's so antithetical to their ideal roles in the galaxy. Obi-Wan taking regulations and his responsibility as an officer very seriously and trying to retain his Jedi perspective, while Anakin glories in feeling useful and active and proving his strength by leading men into battle, lightsaber first. Meanwhile Mace Windu is too self-contained to form any real bonds with the men under his command, and Yoda, the natural teacher, treats every battle as a lesson and inspires his people to be their best selves while fighting tooth and nail to keep the spirit of the Jedi intact through it all. And seeing all the different ways Palpatine manipulated events, how versatile and ruthless and ever-present his plans were, makes his de facto conquest of the galaxy for forty years a lot more believable and impressive than the movies let on. If they asked for donations to do a season that replayed the events of Revenge of the Sith in this style then I'd pull my wallet out right now.

Reading that, I guess I will have to give TCW a try afterall. Never got into it due to my lack of endurance for TV shows. In that not so far future, any recordings of the original scene, the one that did not make Greedo shoot at all, will probably be highly-sought artifacts. When I went into SW, that scene was already kind of lost, so I grew up with that one odd Special Edition that makes Greedo shoot and adds Jabba to EPIV, but did not have the head of Sebastian Shaw replaced with Christensen.

When I went into SW, that scene was already kind of lost, so I grew up with that one odd Special Edition that makes Greedo shoot and adds Jabba to EPIV, but did not have the head of Sebastian Shaw replaced with Christensen. I grew up under the impression that blasters could randomly misfire into walls, at which point killing you for endangering your fellow Rodians with terrible weapon maintenance would be entirely justifiable. And yeah, Dooku was totally wasted in RotS. Although him utterly dominating Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at their respective peaks for most of the fight is still awesome and worth watching by itself. You should definitely give Clone Wars a shot. First season isn't anything to write home about outside the clone episodes - "Rookies" and "The Deserter", and maybe a bit seeing Anakin as he's supposed to be rather than what Hayden Christensen made him. But the writing really picks up in the second season, and the animation budget seems to triple for the third. And that's as far as I've gotten. Oh, and there are really sick fight scenes similar to the one in RotS where Dooku is a lot more nimble and elegant thanks to not being played by an admittedly legendary 83-yearold actor. Those are the best.

The article states that George Lucas made this change before Disney bought Star Wars, just to let people know before it is falsely used as fuel for their hate. Stop repeating yourself before you start fueling my ire of incessant repetition

For the record, changing the scene at all was, imo, stupid. I don't care if George Lucas himself authorized it. At one point I even owned a T-Shirt that said "Han Shot First"
