You should watch Rebels if you haven't, the Season 2 finale of that is awesome (other than for the helicopter sabers, that is stupid): I haven't watched most of Rebels (though I did for Clone Wars) but I kept an eye because of Ahsoka Tano. This is what D. Filoni came up with?!

I agree with Remki re:last 2 pages. Also masterwarderz why are you being ill-mannered? You sound like a linux kernel developer. Regarding Finn, none of the new characters are wastes of space in episode VII. The old ones are. The movie would have been better without 90% of the nostalgia. Which is a reason to be optimistic about episode VIII. I'm going out on a limb and predict that every one of the epidose VII haters will be at the theater watching episode VIII! I do look forward to seeing what they'll do with the franchise now that they've given a huge nod to the original trilogy. They'll be freed up to develop the new characters a lot more.

Regarding lightsabers: this isn't an uncommon opinion, but I prefer when they are more like Monkey Island fights. A duel of wits; a clash of personalities, philosophies, or worldviews. The one between Rey and Ren brought this back to an extent.
I would really dislike if the big bad from episode VII had one. I fail to see the connection between the lightsaber (a mere mechanical device) and being touched by the Force.

I'm going out on a limb and predict that every one of the epidose VII haters will be at the theater watching episode VIII! Just because something is too big to ignore doesn't make it good. I've made peace with the fact that I'll probably still be roped in to see the main movies because the alternative is useless (what am I gonna do, boycott Star Wars? I might as well rage at the stars themselves). That doesn't mean I approve on any level. It also doesn't mean I blindly hate it either. I'll admit Rey and Finn were well done likeable characters. But that's about it. And that is nowhere near enough justification for what all this cost. I would really dislike if the big bad from episode VII had one. I fail to see the connection between the lightsaber (a mere mechanical device) and being touched by the Force. Short practical reason: lightsabers would be almost useless in the hands of non-Force users, much like swords would be on a modern battlefield. Even more so as with physical swords you don't risk losing a limb as a result of an errant twitch. In the hands of a Force-user though, the lightsaber becomes a devastating weapon, superior to most other personnel weapons and certainly more versatile than any of them. Longer more philosophic answer: The lightsaber is the symbol of the Jedi, and their commitment to the ideals of their order, much like how the sword was traditionally the symbol of knights, which is of course where a lot of the inspiration for Jedi comes from. The weapon "is their life", built from scratch by each Jedi and customized, not only to their style and physical attributes but also to a vision from the Force. As such it becomes a more like an actual part of them than a mere weapon. The Sith on the other hand are said to use lightsabers mostly to troll the Jedi, though their practicality can't be denied and the current version of a lightsaber with a feedback loop powering the device and removing the need for an external battery pack is actually a Sith innovation.

Talking about the EU, I'd like to link this fan made video I saw a while back about Revan. Now now, before you claim bloody murder, you should know that I don't really like fan videos at all and I find most of them to be pretty mediocre even if well spirited.
This particular one was rather meh or so till about 9 minutes but then it picks up and I have to admit that it is one of the best portrayals of Revan I've seen till date. Sure it's got some silly moments but for a fucking youtube video it's actually stellar!

I can't get into Rebels and I loved the Clone Wars stuff. I think its the main character that is putting me off, the voice, the hair, the age, something is just not working for me. That said I am very much not the pre-teen, early-teen demographic the show is aimed at so its not a big surprise it hasn't hooked me and I'm fine with that, not everything Star Wars needs to be catered to my age bracket. Also I think its because deep down I know in my little heart of hearts that to me Star Wars equals Skywalker... no Skywalkers is a tougher sell for me

He starts off all unbearable with that slingshot and what have you, but I found him to be more likable as the show went on. I'm also really loving his flirtation with the dark side, hoping that he gives in during season 3. If you don't like it, then you don't like it and there isn't anything wrong with that

Continuing to post misinformation like this isn't going to help keep the peace. It's not misinformation. Was a mod on the official Star Wars forum as the prequels were coming out. Got the official word and had many, many discussions about it disseminating that information. Not a jimmy-rustler, just the facts.

Speaking of the prequels, this documentary about it looks cool. That really does look bad ass. Of course, I'm one of the people that didn't hate the prequels. Hated some of the acting and a couple'a choices. The entirety of the prequels? No.

I think most people would agree Phantom Menace had some problems with it. It isn't all bad but really it wasn't needed to tell the story they were telling. The prequels would have been better off starting with Anakin in his teens ala Ep 2, with a few flashbacks thrown in to explain certain relationships. The only real problems I have with Ep1 is Jar Jar and Ani... the rest I can live with. I've said it before, child actors are a tough sell and they failed. I feel bad for Jake Lloyd, its not really his fault, but his sweet little Ani rubbish made me wish he was eaten by a dust storm. Jar Jar's animation choices are just bad and too extreme, the voice acting is also questionable. He is toned down in the later ones and is actually fine. In the end though I think the problems I had with Ep1 are less to do with the movie and more to do with me not being the demographic they were aimed at. The focus, as with Ep4 was children, and all the kids I know loved it when it came out. They learnt they couldn't focus solely on kiddies and the later prequels and the newer ones are careful to straddle the line between being kid friendly but enjoyable for adults also. So Ep1 not great but 2 and 3 stand up pretty well when put next to the OT, in fact I'd rate them both higher than Jedi, because fuck Ewoks

The Plinkett reviews are damned excellent and I pretty much agree with everything they say... but in the wake of TFA's A New Hope 2.0 I do find my enjoyment of them somewhat dimmed. I won't presume to imply Red Letter Media frightened Disney into making such a safe zero risk ripoff, but I will say it's likely that they represent the larger fanbase that did.

Mark Hamill is coming to my local comic con in September and I just found out how much we'd have to pay to meet him.
Either I win a lottery to pay for a photo op.....$200.00 (slim chance,) OR I get a guaranteed photo op, a pre-signed autograph (argh!) a ticket to his panel, and a 2016 Salt Lake Comic Con Mark Hamill collector's badge.....for $375.00.
Either my daughter isn't getting a big Christmas this year, or I miss out the opportunity of a lifetime....

I'm still hoping he'll tear it apart when that review finally comes out but... I'm not going to hold my breath The dude who makes the Plinkett voice said that he loved it. He also loved Jurassic World... so maybe he doesn't know good movies after all. Nah, but in all seriousness, that review came out came like two days after the movie did. AKA the height of the hype. I'd be shocked if once that calmed down and they were able to think about it more critically, they still couldn't see the problems with it. I'm not expecting prequel levels of shredding. But no way should they just let it slide. And man I could only listen to about 30 more seconds of that video before I had to turn it off. "It's a competent movie and after the prequels that's all it needed to be". ... no it motherfucking did not!! This is exactly what I've been saying since I walked out of the theatre. Making "not the prequels" is not a valid artistic or creative goal for a Star Wars movie (or any movie for that matter). That's like me making a rom com with my only goal being to not make the Room. I expect a proper review Plinkett. Don't fuck me on this. Mark Hamill is coming to my local comic con in September and I just found out how much we'd have to pay to meet him. NO, he's coming to MY local con in September Sadly I too don't think I'll be able to afford anything of his...
