I basically like a lot of types of music, but I will say my radio doesn't get rap and most country. Rap is an abomination to music and country isn't really my thing unless its western like what you hear in Fallout New Vegas.

Rap and hip-hop are the same thing. As in they both refer to the same music. Heavy metal and "other types of metal" can be folded into one category. Of all the different subgenres of metal that exist, they all fall under "heavy metal". While I can't say much about Rap/Hip-Hop, the "heavy metal" genre is extremely broad, to the point that there's little in common aside from heavily distorted guitars and use of drums and bass guitar. Hell, the sub-genre of black metal alone is so varied that it's a stretch to group them together in one genre, let alone a sub-genre. Similar things could be said about genres and sub-genres of electronic music. If you take Epic Trance/Ibiza Trance/whatever and compare that to Dark Psytrance or whatnot, the similarities pretty much end in the choice of instruments and beat (if Epic Trance even has a beat, which is open for debate). I assume similar things could be said about Rap, I've seen both that commercial Gangsta Rap shit and grassroots stuff, I just don't understand it all enough to form an opinion.

So much metal. Doom, gloom, black, speed, thrash, death, grindcore, metalcore, alternative, industrial, and it goes on.

I assume similar things could be said about Rap, I've seen both that commercial Gangsta Rap shit and grassroots stuff, I just don't understand it all enough to form an opinion. Black metal, groove metal, symphonic power metal, and thrash metal are all different from each other, but they're all still metal. That's my point. I don't know what Trance is, I've never heard of that. As far as rap/hip-hop goes, my point was that hip-hop and rap are literally synonymous with each other. Rap music is quite literally he same thing as hip-hop music. Like someone calling soda "soda" while someone else says "pop", the words can be different but they refer to the same thing. But you're right in that there's a bunch of different styles and subgenres, though I would not call gangsta rap commercial. Not anymore. It got big after groups like NWA made it famous for about a decade from the late 80's to mid-late 90's, but then it fell off and became more niche again. What you'll hear if you go on Billboard or something is probably Trap, which is every bad stereotype about rap music all balled together into a single genre, to the point where I have literally never heard a single Trap song that wasn't about drugs and hoes, almost inaudibly mumbled out by some illiterate retard who probably went into the recording booth high on cough syrup and suffered a stroke, but inexplicably becomes popular because normies with shit music taste buy blatant trash like it's something to be proud of.

Rap is an abomination to music and country isn't really my thing unless its western like what you hear in Fallout New Vegas. Rap music is probably the only genre where I feel comfortable saying that you need to escape the mainstream radio to discover good material. I've always been of the mind that rap's biggest audience tends to not be very bright, hence why the trash floats so close to the top, but you don't need to look very hard to come across excellent, thoughtful lyrics and catchy beats. Go on YouTube and search up "The Blues" by Tito Lopez, "u" by Kendrick Lamar, "3005" by Childish Gambino, or "I'm Sorry" by Joyner Lucas. Joyner Lucas in particular has become one of my favorite rappers on the scene, I legitimately haven't heard a song from him that I've disliked so far. Fuck country music though, I don't like it. It never appealed to me.

I can't say too much about Rap, again I'm a bit out of touch, but please understand that I didn't mean to call all gangsta rap commercial. I think NWA was great, they had a serious edge, but this mainstream "yo I'm such a pimp you better beware or my homies will kill you" stuff... eurgh. Again, I'm out of touch enough to not know if this is still a thing in the mainstream, but I know it is a thing in local "underground" where insecure guys pretend to be crass criminals to make themselves appear exciting, intimidating or whatever. At least it is over here. As for trance, apparently that is much less of a thing in America than in Europe, apologies. Basically, it's a co-genre of techno, but more harmonic/melody-oriented than the more percussive-oriented techno. I think it's especially a thing in Germany and the Netherlands. Trying to come up with a good example, I chose Dogzilla's Without You because it's a popular song that may give an idea of the nature of the more accessible side of Trance. I also chose a Dark Psytrance song to highlight the crass differences within the genre. Just to make a point regarding differences within genres.

*Snip* As for trance, apparently that is much less of a thing in America than in Europe, apologies. I also chose a Dark Psytrance song to highlight the crass differences within the genre. Just to make a point regarding differences within genres. It is true that in America -Trance music is not as popular as it is in the rest of the world. Nevertheless in some cities in the United States it is becoming more so. Also Dogzilla is not as popular as Robert Miles, Paul Van Dyk or Above and Beyond. And in my house here in Rural USA it is the only thing since 2005. *Snip* I don't know what Trance is, I've never heard of that. *Snip* Let me help you: Techno: Trance: As to a song of both look back a page to this post of mine: bsn.boards.net/post/950891/threadThe wheel of Electronic music: bsn.boards.net/post/950508/thread
