Finished Season 3, a very fun watch. Some clever visual misdirects, and has more comedy than I was expecting from the show. Plenty of drama between the adorkable duo, compared to what I remember from Downey Jr's version and the original Black & White adaptations. My favorite episode would be Sign of Three, this one and the last one has a stream-of-consciousness sensibility in its editing that feels like Satoshi Kon Lite. Cool.

Was Sherlock's Moriarty a complete misfire for anyone else here? Buffoonish, annoying, and his voice is that of a drunk, lobotomized clown. I can't tell if it's just the actor's portrayal or how he was written, but pretty much every one of his attempts to be menacing fell completely flat to me.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I can kinda get what they were going for, almost a Batman/Joker dichotomy where Sherlock is super serious and Moriarty clowns around but it just didn't work for me one bit. It's a fine performance don't get me wrong, and I might get behind it in other contexts, but I do not see Moriarty like that at all. Like I was saying before, Jared Harris in Game of Shadows nailed it I think.

I hated BBC's Moriarty at first. I remember sitting there thinking WTF. But he grew on me. Now I think he's awesome.

Oh I enjoyed Moriarty. He is one of the best things about the show for me, while he wasn't something that I was expecting. I do like his character and wait to possibly see more of him at some point. Love the series as a whole personally, I did like the RDJ movies as well, but I do enjoy the series way more.

If you don't count today, that's 3 whole days. I'm kinda saddened by this picture. Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington aren't together anymore.....after 15 years and 2 kids.

Bit of a bait title. The quote from Gatniss pretty much just name dropped Dr. Strange but it's not like Cumberbatch was an unknown prior to it. If you actually read the article, both it and the quotes from the show creators basically go "leads are busy, don't know if we can keep doing this". Still, I wonder how many Sherlock lunatics will rail against Marvel now.

I really hope this isn't the last season after a two year gap. There are so few episodes anyway. However, if actors are busy they are busy. I understand that. Still sucks for us fans though. Great show.
On the other hand, I have a bet running with a friend about Johnlock being endgame. I said nope. Might see a winner very soon, which is kind of exciting.

A few quick disclaimers since I didn't see this thread until now: - I am a Sherlock fan, having enjoyed the first season the most - I think the quality of the series has progressively declined, although I still enjoyed them to some extent and looked forward to the new episodes - Jeremy Brett served as my introduction to Sherlock Holmes and still, to some extent, frames my expectations (I didn't read any of the books until later) So Anybody watch the 6 thatchers? Yes. So far I didn't think it was worse than the last season/special, although I still need time to figure out what that means. I find the writers'/showrunners' (Gatiss and Moffat, I assume) obsession with Moriarty and the apparent super powers of various characters, as dictated by the plot, to be ongoing issues that are dragging the series down. I do, however, see the potential for improvement ahead and am looking forward to the next episode (as usual).

So, just started watching Sherlock yesterday. I'm liking it, though I find myself agreeing with what others have said about this version of Moriarty. I preferred Jared Harris' version.
I should probably read more of Sir Doyle's original stories, the only one I've actually read was Hound of the Baskervilles (Which made that episode rather entertaining)

Also, if other Sherlock Holmes are being mentioned, I'm going to give House an honorable mention.
It was a long time before I made the Holmes-Watson House-Wilson connection, but that misanthropic substance abusing genius was my earliest exposure to a Sherlock adaptation of it counts.

Can someone explain me how the fuck didn't Sherlock recognize his own sister in the woman with the cane? And even if he just doesn't know that he's got a sister, he must've recognized her when Mrs. Hudson brought him to the therapist house. He's a goddamn smartass that notices everything, for Pete's sake

Because the plot demanded it. This season seems to be more about creating shock rather than making sense. And the plot will twist in any direction to produce the most shock. If that means some characters have out of character moments, then so be it.

And even if he just doesn't know that he's got a sister, he must've recognized her when Mrs. Hudson brought him to the therapist house. He's a goddamn smartass that notices everything, for Pete's sake My suspicions are that; Eurus was institutionalised when Sherlock was still young, so he hasn't seen her in years.
Judging from Mycroft's comments about Sherrinford being "secure", I'd wager she was kept in some kind of psychiatric facility or prison, after it became clear that she was far more unstable than either of her two brothers (which is saying something).
The trailers for the next episode indicate that Sherlock has some degree of memories of his sister, but if he's the youngest sibling as it's been inferred, that's probably the reason he doesn't recognise her now.
Neither Sherlock or John noticed she was the same woman, something she chalks up to them never really paying attention to women's faces. In Sherlock's case, we know that he doesn't really pay attention to people (he often fails to notice John's lengthy absences), so he doesn't really look at faces unless he's actively scanning someone.
Didn't help that he was high as a kite during the time he spent with her. Even his ability to scan was compromised, as we saw him struggling to work out the connections that he'd already figured out, but which his conscious mind hadn't yet caught up to.
We saw his drug-binge also made him hallucinate and lose huge chunks of time. Remember the scene transition from him holding up traffic in the road, to being back in Baker Street, with zero memory of how he got there and the people who brought him home? It probably explains how Eurus "disappeared" from the bench... she probably left when he zoned out after collapsing against the railing?

I can call season 4 a train wreck now. I think I'll be okay if there aren't any more episodes, not if they are going to be anything like that.
