So I'm thinking of starting a new Dragon Age RPG group, and I came across an old adventure that Green Ronin wrote for the RPG. The adventure has a Dalish hunter as the main protagonist, after he was turned to an abomination by a rage demon that took control of him in an ancient ruin. That seemed off to me, as I remember that only mages can turn into abominations... Then I remembered a quest in DA2 in which Templars were turned into abominations. I always assumed it was because of their Lirium enhanced abilities that make them "anti-magic" in some way.
Did anyone understand how exactly this works? Can anyone basically be turned into an abomination (I imagine with some sort of Blood Magic involved)?

As I know: just a mage can summon a demon, but a demon, if already summoned, able to possess anyone, who able to accept its offer. A spirit also able to possess everyone, for example Justice would be able to possess Nathaniel, as he was able to possess Kristoff's corpse.

And a mage could become possessed in the Fade, which is not possible for a regular person, right?
Is there a difference between someone possessed out side the Fade or inside? Or is the result always the same?

Or is the result always the same? 1. Why not? Anyone can enter in the Fade with mage help. As Fenris for example (he's mostly in my group, I like his different reaction after the Fade scene – depend on rivalry or friendship), or Varric. I think, if can enter the Fade, then can be possess in the Fade as well. 2. I don't think that.

A demon can technically possess anyone. Besides the DA2 example of templars being possessed by demons, Nightmare will taunt Iron Bull by threatening to use his body as his vessel.
But for a variety of reasons, mages are the only ones truly at risk of possession.
1) The Veil keeps demons largely contained to the Fade, except in areas where the Veil is thin (battlegrounds, ruins, etc.) Thus, most mortals will never interact with demons outside of their dreams. But a mage can send their mind consciously into the Fade and can be possessed there, either through force or via trickery.
2) The more magic a mage uses at a given time, the more they put themselves at risk of possession, in the same way you're more likely to have a heart attack during a marathon than during a half-hour walk. Blood mages in particular are more at risk of possession than regular mages.
3) Even when demons make their way to the physical world via magic or some other means, their preferred vessel is a mage due to their connection to the Fade.

When does Fenris go into the fade? Yes, as phoray wrote, in Feynriel quest (Act2), I misunderstod you. Everyone able to go into the Fade, except Sebastian. He also would be able, but he refuse the invitation, because "this place not for Chantry people" – or something similar. This is fun too. Probably Sebastian very afraid of temptations... Probably many people don't want to bring Fenris to the Fade, because Fenris fear from magic, but I think, this not bad idea.

Awesome explanation, thanx!
