Make sure you travel with a friend that cannot run as fast as you can if there are bears or zombies chasing you. Or stock up on Zombie Max ammo.

Something I found on indie gogo. Sadly, can't afford to back it atm. But its still a neat idea. IP65 Wireless Solar Power Bank with Light20000 Milli-amp hour battery, with a solar panel for charging, a light on the back, and a built-in wireless charging adapter for charging your phones/watches. Don't think there are any other wireless charging devices yet. Not a bad deal, all in all. Though, personally, that wireless charging doesn't help with any of my current devices. I will say, I have found other devices, for around the same price and capacity, with better IP ratings. They just don't have that solar panel, or wireless charging ability. And I have found other battery packs, with more capacity, for around the same price. They just don't have an IP rating, and I don't think you can carry them on a plane (though I could be wrong on that front). So, if your going camping, or want something to charge your phone in the car, and leave your cigarette lighter adapter for other things, this might be worth a look.

Funny thing is, if the cops caught you with all of that stuff they would suspect you of a major crime.

That spade can double as nifty melee weapon for self-defense if sharpened well enough, as troops in the World Wars did.

That spade can double as nifty melee weapon for self-defense if sharpened well enough, as troops in the World Wars did. You really need one of the trench spades though, the cheap flimsy spades today are nearly worthless. Putting one of those spades into the car sure is a good idea, you might want to get something decent for that job:

Gun Jesus and Karl talk about the Spade in WW1 (16:40) I saw that video before, the spade really is a waraxe in disguise, in overall utility even better than the machete. What a lot of people do not know is that it was used as such even in WWII, in several books I read there was a lot of hand to hand combat on the eastern front and the spade was the preferred tool is it was far better than the bayonet or the butt of the rifle.

If you think about it, it all makes sense. Sharpened, it still works as a thrusting weapon. Thus, it does the bayonets job, not quite as well, but adequately. It has a broad face, so can be used for swinging attacks on edge or face, either lacerating or slamming the assailant. Also offers defense and attack vectors from the blunt end of the handle. Can be effectively used in a butterfly grip like a tonfa, providing a shield arm with potential swinging attack. 10/10 for what it is, I can use one well as described. All hand-held weapon skills are based on the same principles.

Incidentally, I started using the spade as a secondary weapon for the Calvary/Shield class in Call of Duty: WW2 and it's strangely as viable as it is fun. Whilst you can't use the shield and the spade at the same time you can get in close with the shield and then switch to the spade to go on a murder spree with it. Cleaving foes as they try to flee in terror is ever so fun.. i.postimg.cc/HLL1WJ9M/10-23-2018-2-53-00-PM.pngI haven't had this much fun with a shovel/spade since playing Shovel Knight. i.postimg.cc/HxmtmF2X/codex-heart.png

So in your survival kit: waterproof matches. Nylon string with a high tensile strength. Three or four fish hooks, smaller ones (these are for keep you going fish, not trophy fishing). A few firestarters. A space blanket -- reflective surface is good for signaling for help as well as warm! In a perfect world, you also have a GPS... But I usually don't because I'm terrible. If you're someplace where the water isn't reliably safe, filtration straw. Skills you should practice: Tying knots. It sounds simple, but they're actually really important, for everything from fishing to making shelter to splinting an injury. Sorry for nerding all over this thread, but back country and not dying in it is sort of my thing. Except for now, when it's 40 below and there's two hours of twilight with no daylight. That puts a damper on it even for me. Also and here is the really important bit and something so many people forget to do if they aren't regularly going into the wilderness, walk with your pack for a fair distance to build up endurance of carrying it. You can have fifty pounds of gear on your back but it won't do you any favors if you can't travel three miles with it in rough terrain. This is probably my most common exercise with the militia and rifle clubs I volunteer with during the summer for survival training. We walk 10 to 15 miles a day in full gear, just like I did in the Army in basic. in a survival scenario though you want a thin and light set of kit not a large pack to weigh you down, if your moving over any distance then you would be better off having a cart of some description to load up with the heavy stuff you dont really want to be moving around with anything more than a belt kit or a small day sack most of the time also with that in mind its probably better to invest in a modified vehicle (like a wood gasifier engine) so your biggest worry is can you do the maintenance work and where is your food coming from, its also good advice to have things like plant/herb books and traditional medicines knowledge along side modern stuff since a chemist wont be available but theres often plenty of trees of the right sort... personally my survival planning revolves around getting away from people into a more wilderness setting with the equipment to both set up camp and dig in for the long haul whilst being able to work back to some semblance of civilisation, and since all of that takes a lot of work I then planning around a dozen folks (many hands make light work) being involved, but mostly that is in the form of having some gear (enough that only food would be a real problem and even that only after a couple of weeks) most folks dont thing about filtration kits and water carriers and go with a straw and thats fine for a constantly moving solo person but not so much if your planning on going static, then again if you have the ability to plan long term and the finances its often better to pre stage somewhere so even if your caught on the backfoot you only need to run there and your good to go
