Where's my B5 peeps at? Discuss anything and everything related to Babylon 5 and its spinoffs here! Who's your favorite character? Group? Race? Episode? I'll have to build a better OP at some point. But for now: Edit: Now with Poll!

Here I am! *waves frantically* Babylon 5 is probably my favourite TV show of all time. (I love Doctor Who, as well, but that's my favourite giant ball of TV-audio-book-comic-Sky-Ray-Ice-Lolly timey-whimey stuff.) The Narn and the Centauri are my favourite species, and Londo and G'Kar my favourite characters. Their character and relationship arc is just extraordinary, and my favourite part of the show. I don't know if I could choose a single favourite episode! But The Coming of Shadows is pretty damn amazing. (Assuming I can't cheat and pick the first six episodes of Season Four, taken as a single story ...)

As a series it took a little warming up, but series 3 and 4, just amazing. Be seeing you... (and I entirely expected CrutchCricket to be here...)

Dammit. Take all my likes.
The Coming of Shadows is certainly a contender for my favourite episode, but I'm going to cheat a bit here and go with the three parter of Messages from Earth, Point of No Return, and Severed Dreams as the highlight of the series for me.
The relationship between Londo and G'Kar is another strength of the series, with elements like their being trapped in an elevator together salvaging otherwise sub-par episodes (Convictions).
Crusade was just getting interesting, but the conflict between JMS and Turner execs doomed it before the first episode aired. I'd rather not talk about any other spin-off....

Like I said before, it has everything I want- vast unknowable cosmic powers, transcendance, awesome villains who can outthink as well as outfight you. Talia's character is expanded we see the first hints of G'Kar's eventual transformation, Bester is introduced. I'll have to break down and admit, to no one's surprise I'm sure, that he's probably my favorite character. And of course the ever enigmatic "Be Seeing You" was the last trailing hook that solidly reeled me in. Shenaningans were afoot and now I wanted to get to the bottom of it all. And they didn't disappoint.

For me, B5 wasn't just good TV - it was a fascinating, unprecedented look at the upsides and downsides of having a long-ish series written by just one person (as opposed to a collaboration of lots of writers who bounce ideas off each other and keep each other in check, while also probably having personal and creative conflicts).

Bester was a great addition to the series and is my favourite Walter Koenig character. I really have a hard time naming a favourite character from the series, though.
Some years ago (early 2000s) several of my friends and I got together and came up with a list of our top B5 episodes as a prelude to a a marathon of our top ten -- I managed to find some of our lists. Our top three were In the Shadow of Z'Ha'Dum, Severed Dreams, and Coming of Shadows. Curiously, only one episode from each of seasons four and five made the list, none from season one, and Gropos (mostly by dint of being someone's #1 pick) cracked the top ten.
If I were to do that again, I'd hope to see one or two episodes from season one make the list (Signs and Portents or Chrysalis), along with Endgame from season four and Sleeping in Light (the series finale) on the list.
As to what put the B5 hook into me such that it wasn't going to get out? That'd be the season one finale, Chrysalis, because it showed definitively that it was possible for our heroes to fail, that the future was in doubt, and it signaled that something epic was coming; it raised the stakes. Before that I had been watching the show, but mostly because it was sci-fi and because it was on. There were other good moments in the first season, but they didn't mean as much to me until later.

God where to even start. Morden's head on a spike while Vir wiggles his fingers at him. "That some favours come with too high a price..." (Also nice to see all of Morden's "What Do You Want?"'s come true. Kosh, "it is too late for the pebbles to vote, the avalanche has already started." Everything Kosh. And of course, the character progression and acting of G'kar. RIP Andreas Londo's brutal arc still hurts. Staring out a window while Narn was bombed. Vir and Lennier's quick sit down chats and seemingly unofficial "Attaches Union" gets a smile. Marcus, and his fight with Naroon to save Delenn. It showed Naroon wasn't just the "Minbari bad guy" but had a core of Warrior honour that was getting the life sucked out of him by the real "Minbari bad guy", the Warrior Caste Leader, can't think of the cowards name. The one that can't stand the Starfire Circle. When I realized that that super cheesy alien armour suit from season 1 that was smuggled in by Franklin's old prof (iirc?) was actually fore shadow for the Shadows. ... and then when I rewatched all of B5 for the first time and truly appreciated the full plot arcs that spanned seasons. Especially at that time when it was bloody rare. I quite liked Jack the Ripper. "Be a nice minbari, conform..."

I remember the actor talked about a sick fan who mentioned reading one of G'Kar's speeches when they were feeling at their worst. It was interesting to witness his relationship with Londo unfold over the years. The whole show was wonderful, and how the arcs carried on throughout the seasons and make sense as a whole when you looked back on it all.

Especially at that time when it was bloody rare. I quite liked Jack the Ripper. "Be a nice minbari, conform..." I kept that picture as my avatar on another forum for a year after he died. I truly cannot imagine the series without Andreas Katsulas. He's certainly a contender for my favourite character in the series, but I think he's just barely edged out by Vir. Your Kosh quote is easily my favourite quote from the series and I nearly added it to my sig line on BSN Prime last week, for whatever strange reason. My lack of interest in posting there is what stopped me. It's too bad that quote shows up in one of the worst episodes in the series, but... I also love the confrontation between Naroon and Marcus, and Naroon's subsequent speech to Delenn, which is in what is often cited as the worst episode in the series ( Grey 17 is Missing). Which means that every episode seems to have something worth watching in it (to my mind). Well, perhaps not Spider in the Web, but that's because all the story points in that episode were dropped (other than the relatively mundane point that there was a secret Psi Corps base on Mars). I also got the impression that the character elements they (JMS?) were trying to build on Sheridan in that episode (fascination with black projects, gambling with people for access codes) were dropped to keep him from getting too complicated and were picked up again with Captain Gideon on Crusade. I'm not obsessed with this show. Stop looking at me like that. My liking of most B5 related comments is entirely incidental.

Argh! Why u start a B5 discussion thread while I'm at work and can't post in it until I get home?!
Fave sci-fi show, easily. From S2 Coming of Shadows through the end of S4, I'd say it's in my top 3 of all time, along with the first 3 seasons of "Homicide:LOTS" and the first 2 seasons of "China Beach." It was just that good.
I started watching early to mid-season 2. Just happened to see it while channel flipping. I think it was either Londo's hair or G'Kar who caught my eye. Probably the hair. Anyway, I was immediately hooked. Couldn't wait for the next episode. The schedule was wonky of course, where they didn't show the final 4 episodes of a season until the following fall, and for S3, that coincided with baseball playoffs. All of the episodes were pre-empted but the local station did something I don't think I've ever heard of before or since: after the playoffs, they aired all of the pre-empted episodes back-to-back. So I got to see Grey 17, And the Rock Cried Out, Shadow Dancing, and Z'Ha'Dum all in one sitting. I was in B5 heaven, which of course then turned to B5 hell, once Sheridan blew up the planet and himself with it.
"We thought you were dead." "I was. I got better."
Favorite episodes? It's so hard to pick. Definitely the mid S3 "trilogy" Messages from Earth, Point of No Return, and Severed Dreams, already mentioned. The last is the reason I no longer watch next episode previews. The official preview for that episode included Sheridan's line, "We are seceding from the Earth Alliance." Nice spoiler, guys. Not that you couldn't see it coming, but it was kind of a big moment ruined.
For standalones, I always bawl like a baby during Confessions and Lamentations and of course, the series finale.
Garibaldi was my favorite character (RIP Jerry Doyle) and I hated what he had to go through in seasons 4 & 5. I was glad he finally got a happy ending.
Well, I guess that's enough gushing for one post.

B5 remains my favourite sci-fi show. Truly trailblazing to see a show with a five-season arc when most shows were still so episodic in nature. Also it seems to have sparked true enduring friendships among the cast. Claudia Christian posted this to her facebook just the other day: I have to agree about Delenn's "If you value your lives, be somewhere else" moment. That will stay with me for ever, I think.

Jerry Doyle recently passed away. How many have already gone? Andreas Katsulas Robin Sachs Richard Biggs Michael O'Hare Jeff Conaway Tim Choate

Has anyone watched The Lost Tales? I bought the dvd when it came out but haven't watched it yet, since I was waiting to do so until after I rewatched the series.
