In regards to Dragonsplague, I think your main pawn can catch it if you're in combat with a drake and they become possessed. I found what I think is an infected pawn in the rift, can't take a good screenshot because everything ripples. His eyes are glowing red, and it's super apparent in game. Don't hire these pawns, just to be safe.

There are "random" big monster attack in the city. I woke up to an Ogre trashing one of the entrance and I've seen screenshots of Cyclops and even a drake. The poor Ogre ended up with like 20 people hitting him. I also unlocked Mystic Spearhand and switched to that now. I haven't had much time to try it, only helped bashing the Ogre so far. After I sleep at my "borrowed" house, my Archie regaled me with his tale of being taken by a full party of archers. They didn't fair that well going by his written report. Also, I had a stout little Beastren Warrior on my party for a few days and he was hilarious. Siting everywhere (another pawn kept telling him he was being lazy), always complaining about basically everything I was doing too (taking a path, picking stuff up, etc). Hmm now thinking of it, did he have the dragonplague? It's supposed to give weird behavior to pawns. Dang, that means I might need to throw Archie off a cliff soon.

I had a mage pawn who was great but also just kept on killing random animals. You'd see a lightning bolt for no reason and there you go, dead bunnies, pigs etc.. I know this game is "special", so I don't mind too much but I already got kissed by two ladies, and I think I'm romancing those two and also an elf and his dad??? They left me like love letter and gift at home, and the elf showed up with his cheeks all red and I thought he turned into a drunkard but then I had another character with their cheeks all red who went kissy kissy face so it's not alcohol. It's love.

I'll keep an eye out for more info and share anything useful I come across. I'm scared. Like, this could ruin a whole run. Couldn't it? It definitely could, but there is a bit more I've learned. People have reported a tutorial popping up the first time your main pawn gets afflicted, so that should help people adjust. I haven't seen many references to this, so I'm not certain it happens for everyone. Apparently an early symptom is your main pawn having red eyes. This is still being tested, but is consistent with what developers have said about it (and unfortunate for those pawns whose eyes were already red.) One tester said throwing their pawn off a cliff and re-summoning them solved the problem. There are rumours this technique or your pawn dying results in permanent scars added to their appearance, but I don't have confirmation of that yet.

My pawn died once in my PT (fell in a spot where I couldn't revive him during combat) and it seems a few time out in his travel in other worlds and he doesn't have added scars that I can see.

I'm only here to say the fact that Gregor is married and it seems I can't make him my "beloved" is absolute bullsh*t. 0/10 game. Fail, Capcom. FAIL I SAY! Guess since I'm here I'll also mention that pawns love to fall to their death in this game way more than in the first

No, this is the 'straightforward' inclination, my pawn is an ass and does all these things and has since the start of the game. You should be safe.

Guess since I'm here I'll also mention that pawns love to fall to their death in this game way more than in the first That's a learned behavior from their masters. There are some funny videos on reddit about it. I've seen a single pawn so far with the behavior, which is kinda surprising by how much I fall to my low health/death. Archibald is a good boy I guess, he doesn't copy-pasta his master too much.

I got a "random" escort quest (really the guy appeared out of thin air while I was exploring) and I ended up somewhere weird. Got a top Thief skill out of it somehow. But I'm reading online and it seems the place is tied to the main quest and I'm not at that point yet. Now I wonder if we can do stuff out of order and not break anything. I also switched back to Warrior after some time with Mystic Spearhand. Warrior might actually be easier to play now that I understand the charging attacks mechanism. I can't trigger some of the core skills Mystic Spearhand moves because I'm not smashing my buttons fast enough or whatever it is. Also, while in Mystic Spearhand my character takes an eternity to stand up after being knocked down, way more than when I was a Thief/Archer. It's weird. And this is the next thing I'm facing I bet.

Update on my last post. Looks like you can't break any main story steps where I was. You can do the "thief guild" area and if you don't have have the main quest there are things you can't ask those guys. So I did the thief gauntlet as a slumbering Warrior. I also fought the thing in my screenshots, It was easier than I thought, but but screw rage mode! Only the fighter/warrior in the party didn't get downed by that. Also, a Griffin showed up the next morning. Then I went exploring and ended-up finding another escort quest...to the same place as before. Like is everyone a secret thief or something? Also managed to get my camp destroyed by wolves. I need to remember to pick a spare from my storage. Speaking of storage, there seems to be a limit to stacking. I couldn't put in more than 93 goblins horns in there. Might go up to 99 or 100, I was trying to add 9 more and it was saying "storage full". So I sold half of them.

Now....question will be if my portly and baldy man, will show up. Behold I have a quest involving him but it'll be like eight years before I get around to it. I don't think he's a replacement, however. He just smacked of Fourny a great deal. I would like to share a screenshot of a typical outing with my merry band. The blonde sorcerer is my arisen, and she's just fallen asleep against a wall at the top of a guard tower, while Briana her support pawn (who is surprisingly almost mentally stable, for the moment) is insisting to give her a lower back massage. Shinon, her main pawn, is being carried off by harpies. Yes, he's wearing a skirt, Briana stole it from a cyclops and gave it to him. He appreciates the freedom of movement. He'd previously been wearing pants called Bush Raiders and I'd like to think he would bring up that fact to everyone he walked past. Thief is 100% my favorite class. Not necessarily to play (although skull splitter is still ridiculous) but all the stealing is awesome.

My keyboard seems to be working for the moment, so I'll put this in here while I can: old.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma/comments/1bn0ue4/ancestral_cave_shortcut_workaround_with_video/Slight spoiler in there for the area West of Melve, but for when any of you get there, if you run into a problem unlocking the shortcut (which I suspect most of you will) it is bugged. There is a workaround, which thankfully is reliable and only takes a few minutes. I won't embarrass myself by saying how many hours between today and yesterday I spent trying to solve this, just that I'm hoping my frustration headache will go away now. : p

Uh... Proboards is redirecting my link to a bad nono site... I promise the link is fine, it's just old reddit, but whatever Proboards is doing in between is setting off every detector I have on my laptop. I will fiddle for a second and see if I can get a link that isn't going sketchy. Link will go here: www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma/comments/1bn0ue4/ancestral_cave_shortcut_workaround_with_video/Edit: Okay, that's going through properly, and isn't setting off any alarms. New reddit seems to avoid whatever is happening with the old reddit link.

I even used Frigor/Levitate combo to access the door on the Melve side, only to find that it’s locked from inside on that side as well. I felt like I was going insane, lmao

Capcom is going to add the option to start a new game even if save data already exist. So people will be able to restart if they want soon, but since you can finish the game in 17* hours, you might be able to restart faster by doing that for now...

I also found another place with gates similar to those, but it was outside. Some sort of bandit camp. Both gates were closed from the inside. But since the bandits have crazy aggro, they opened them for me. I think we are supposed to open those via spells or something (I know some are designed for ranged attacks since I did one of those with the Spearhand ranged attack), but if you aren't running the right vocation it's like impossible. Like me as a warrior, why can't I just use my crazy strength to blow those doors open? hell, I even threw an exploding barrel at those doors to no avails...

Update from last post, that Undead Knight hit hard and had good armor dang. Finally unlocked the "shortcut" between the Arbor and Melve. I also got my first portycrystal. Not sure where to put it yet. Also, is this appropriate hardware for a Warrior?? I really have to question why some of the best stat items looks so...raunchy.

I also got my first portycrystal. Not sure where to put it yet. I normally don't like spoiling stuff, but I feel this is a very good/necessary tip to get two easy portcrystals. It's in regards to the sphinx, so if you haven't met her yet (I will spoil her location in the following text, so don't click if you don't want that) North of the Ancient Battleground (itself north of the Checkpoint Rest Town) is the Worldsend Cave, which eventually spits you out at the Mountain Shrine, where the sphinx is. One of her riddles, Madness, asks you to bring her your beloved. I backed out as I didn't think I had one at the time, but I was informed you can just plop a pawn in front of her. You get a portcrystal for it. The Riddle of Conviction asks you to give her your most valued possession. Give her the portcrystal. You keep it, and you get a second one.
It seems like there will be a lot of trekking back and forth here so I dropped a portcrystal in front of her and I still have a spare. Also, if we do in fact need a beloved for dragony things (I sincerely hope not, it seems like a very nebulous system like before) I think I've found Alynna's. He said it. He said the thing. He's New Barnaby. I wish they'd swapped him with the guy in the pawn guild, though. "Wait, you're the guildmaster here? I think there's been a mistake somewhere, guildmasters are supposed to have fantastic hair, not a friggin atrocity atop their heads. Also your glasses are too expensive and I hope you go out of business."

Also, if we do in fact need a beloved for dragony things (I sincerely hope not, it seems like a very nebulous system like before) I think I've found Alynna's. It's based on affinity level, but affinity is super easy to build up to max it seems. Just keep gifting to that one person you want and ignore the rest I guess. Also, the dragon might just not care if he picked the right beloved or not.

It's based on affinity level, but affinity is super easy to build up to max it seems. Just keep gifting to that one person you want and ignore the rest I guess. I got the affinity and beyond trophy upon completion of Daphne and Sebastian's questlines, as I haven't done any gifting. I honestly can't be bothered with the whole thing, because if it's the same as before, affinity naturally decays over time and unless you're always talking/gifting to your intended, there's a chance you'll get the wrong person. Also, none of these characters are interesting. But I suppose that's a Dragon's Dogma trademark. I'll get who the game decides to give me if it's still a thing, but I'm hoping there will be more people at max affinity besides a friggin' kid by endgame.
