I finally finished the game. I had like 277 hours I could NOT help myself! I did 2 of the 3 endings and let me just say I cried for one them. CRIED. I was trying to stay away until I got done because I noticed a few of you had finished and I didn't want to see anything yet. Shepenwepet the video is so funny because I've had some of those things happen too and the story is *chefskiss* I missed your stories! Carcharoth I love your pics! Now I can finally share some of my ending shots and talk about it if everyone else is up for more game talk. OH! I tried the *WHOLE* game to make Glyndwr my beloved and he did blush at me when I talked to him but for some reason the dragon brought Sigurd the mystic spearhand guy? . Then at the end of the game in the cutscenes it showed that my stalker Sara was my beloved? So I guess they all loved me? LOL After the new fix the released yesterday (you know, the one to make dragonsplague less infectious and more noticeable?) I started up my NG+, got to Melve, used the riftstone, hired one pawn and GOT THE FREAKING POPUP. Well played Capcom I quit to screen without saving. I may not rent any pawns. That made me M A D! I will never get over Nick looking at me like this: And here are some end shots Pawns feel so much more personable this time. I liked it!

You can have Glyndwr. I don't want him and he keeps staring at me. Briana needed a boost to make sure he could see this. Fanservice! I wonder what caught his attention... Unexpected metal album cover. When did it start to rain? Here. Here's where it started. Somewhere beyond the sea...

I beat the game last weekend (true ending). Took me about 120hrs. Overall, I had fun, but I also had my fair share of gripes. For those who haven't played the first game or Dark Arisen, hopefully you enjoyed yourself.
As for me, this game felt like it doubled down on the best and worst parts of the prior game (I played vanilla DD1, Dark Arisen, and the remastered version). The game definitely excels at the combat (along w/ combat presentation) and open world exploration aspects. The night time lighting is still good, and the monsters are still as good as the first game.
I think the new vocations are generally fine, but Trickster needs more balancing IMO. You can make it work, but I think the studio should consider making it a very Crowd-Control + Debuff heavy vocation. For example, give the class a unique Simulacrum that causes enemies that are aggrod by it to deal more damage, but they take significantly more damage. Or, enemies you possess are more likely to attack their allies. Or, for larger boss monsters, they're slowed for a certain amount of time. It has a place, but it needs some work.
The pawn system is still good, overall, but I wish there was more specificity in the commands we could issue for our pawns.
I don't feel like the game made enough enhancements and fixes to the prior game to make this game really stand as a truly improved sequel. Many of the enemy types are reused, and while Capcom did give the existing enemies new abilities, I was all too capable of knowing exactly how to handle every enemy the first time I fought them. They're also too easy, which is especially true in NG+.
The biggest letdown for me is the story flow and characterization, which was also a huge problem in the first game. A lot of the lore surrounding the game is made fairly obscure, and many of the characters have so little screen time that there's no sense of them progressing and evolving on themselves. The romance system is also, once again, just as silly as the first game.
I'm also pretty pissed that they carried that shitty inventory management system forward. I doubt they'll do it, but if there's anything in this game that needs an overhaul it's that system. I'd also really appreciate it if we could sprint in the open world as long as we want if we're not in combat.
Overall, the combat and exploration was enough to keep me engaged. If not for these elements, I think I would have been wholly disappointed, and probably would have stopped playing much earlier in my playthrough.

I finally finished the game. I had like 277 hours I could NOT help myself! I did 2 of the 3 endings and let me just say I cried for one them. CRIED. The emotion of it was lost on me as Shinon's voice is just so ridiculously theatrical at some points. Maybe he hit his head too hard once and is now stuck on Haughty Old Man mode. I did his archery quest, but then turned his escort quests down every time he showed up at my house and largely ignored him afterward. He was in the final cutscene for me. If you rest with multiple pawns, provided they're not at the final stage (you would easily see this) you have virtually no chance of anything happening. Dragonsplague jumps on rest and regresses. I rested 24 times at my house with a full team and a plagued pawn, intending to see how long it would take. I got bored and stopped. They're closer to what I always thought of them as. I loved that they could actually talk to each other. That was nice. I had extremely low expectations going in in regards to story and it somehow managed to not meet them. It looked promising in the beginning, but, well... there is clearly a chunk missing. Maybe more than a chunk. The only thing that bugs me with the inventory system is that storage won't let you have over 99 of each item. If you're dumping your whole inventory and one of the things you're trying to drop in storage would put you over 99, nothing goes in. Yeah, I know I don't need100+ slate colored horns or scrap iron, but at least let me just drop off stuff quickly without having to look at each number. And +1 to infinite stamina outside of combat. Our pawns seem to have it. It's been suggested that it was rushed to release before the end of the fiscal year, despite what Itsuno insists that it is 'the game he wanted to ship'. It needed more time. I'm sure even its most ardent defenders can agree there. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But I would have been happy with 'DD1 + more things.' I don't need a story, hell, I don't even need gameplay. I just needed to recreate my characters and let them run around in a beautiful new setting. Even the CC tried its hardest to make that difficult - it's easy to make good looking characters, but can be extremely restrictive if you're trying to make certain characters. I'm hoping they'll listen to player feedback with any future DLC. For instance, the equipment restrictions are outright bonkers sometimes. Some mage gear can't be worn by sorcerers. Some armor sets are split up because of restrictions. Who wants this? Make it make some sense, Capcom.

O fcourse I may tweak it to fit DD2' s powers and optoins as I don' texpec tthe 2 games to play identical bu tI am lookin gforward tó the challenge though It's hard for me to recommend which one you should go with first tbh. While DD2 does offer a certain number of improvements (the most obvious being graphical), I feel like DD: Dark Arisen is likely the more complete experience. Honestly, there's probably no wrong way here. It's been suggested that it was rushed to release before the end of the fiscal year, despite what Itsuno insists that it is 'the game he wanted to ship'. It needed more time. I'm sure even its most ardent defenders can agree there. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But I would have been happy with 'DD1 + more things.' Some armor sets are split up because of restrictions. Who wants this? Make it make some sense, Capcom. Well Capcom (the publisher) has been quite surprised to see that the game exceeded their sales expectations, so - hopefully - that serves as an incentive for them to continue making improvements on the game. I just hope they wont tie the more necessary fixes to a Dark Arisen style DLC. I also hope they add in additional enemy variety as well.

Some enemy variety would be nice. Even mixing up some existing spawns a bit would help if they can't add anything new yet. As of right now, I have 12,104 enemies killed, and 3,101 of those are basic goblins. Also 1102 hobgoblins, 514 choppers and 687 knackers. Too many goblins, not enough everything else.
The game should auto sell anything you have too much of if you're trying to dump everything into your storage. Even without increasing the storage limit, this would help tremendously with item management.
I'm also at a point where the only gold sinks I have left are the expensive houses. And unless you're using them for roleplay, photography sets or arenas to watch your harem slap each other in, they're not remotely worth it over the basic two. I need more uses for gold and also reasons to buy the nicer houses other than too much gold.

Speaking of photography, who the hell thought it was okay to not let you free-pan the camera in Photo Mode? The hell! It's the same as it was in the first game, but the first game let you hide your arisen, which is a necessary feature, if you ask me. Why make such a gorgeous world if your character has to photobomb it every time? At least they made Lyncean Sight kind of redundant this time around? If you use it for screenshot purposes, it just starts zoom at max. IIRC, it's still attached to the arisen. I might give it another try to refresh my memory though. I remember thinking it was useless.

The camera was tethered to the main character, but you could still use freecam within a decent sized space around them. Also allowed some control over your companion when in photomode.

Now I can finally share some of my ending shots and talk about it if everyone else is up for more game talk. OH! I tried the *WHOLE* game to make Glyndwr my beloved and he did blush at me when I talked to him but for some reason I got Ambrosius as my beloved for some reason, the creepy sorcery science dude. Like WTF. The only character I was actively trying to get to like me was my main pawn XD Also Brant tried to make me go on a walk with him in the unmoored world. Man, the world is literally ending. Could you maybe not?

'Drake Destroyer' Shinon: Alright, this is the last drake I needed, I'm taking it home as a trophy. I'll find someone that can stuff it and we'll display it somewhere nice. Alynna: That won't fit in the house, Shinon. They won't let you past the gates with that, surely. Shinon: It's dead, though. It's not going to hurt anyone. Come on, someone grab the other claw and start pulling. Barnaby: You would most likely need several oxcarts to pull it. We should harvest what we can and leave the rest for the harpies. Shinon: No, this is my twentieth drake, it's special. I'm keeping it. Alynna: How about I take a picture of you with the drake, then we hang that up at the house? Shinon: What, have it on display between pictures of that really big chunk of rift crystal and your collage of succubus feathers? It'd get lost. I want the actual drake on display so people can see how amazing I am. I mean, not that they can't already, but for the doubters. They need to see. Barnaby: It was a group effort that brought this drake down, not just you. Plus, how would people know you helped slay this one? You could have just walked by as someone else killed it. You have no proof. Shinon: ...They would say that, wouldn't they? Bastards. Okay, change of plans. This drake didn't count. We go hunt another one, and one of you films the fight. Alynna: Shinon... Shinon: It'll only take a couple hours. Alynna: Why do you care about how you're viewed? You don't know any of these people very much. We're not here to win their approval, we're not going to stay here forever. We're going home as soon as we figure out a way back. Shinon: But until then, we have to live here. I've conformed to a lot of their rules. I don't use daggers in tandem with a bow. I don't break crates the moment I see them. I even started hauling around a greatsword just so I can feel like I'm dressed properly. I know who these people are well enough through their dumb rules. Now it's about time they learn who I am. Barnaby: Something tells me I'm going to need to get a few gaol keys copied. Alynna: *to Shinon* If we film you killing a drake, what then? Are you going to go up to each and every person in Vernworth to show them? People don't have telestones here, you can't just mass send it to every number-- Shinon: People need to know who I am. Who we are. We're heroes, dammit. Yet they still treat us like outsiders. Alynna: Well, we are. They've never even heard of Gransys, just like we'd never heard of Vermund. People have been civil enough, some even a bit, uh, too civil. Shinon: Nobody's been 'civil' to me. I don't even get people asking to rub my abs for luck anymore. It's strange. Barnaby: I thought it was strange that they did that in the first place. Shinon: Don't knock it until you try it. Alynna: ...So are we going after another drake, or what? I'm good for that. We can sell the scales, make some cash. Maybe the diviner will be able to divine us a way out of here if we give her more money. Or we could go ask the sphinx, she seems weirdly knowledgeable. Plus, there's a drake out that way. Two birds? Shinon: One greatsword. -- Also, in Alynna's defense, it was a huge chunk of rift crystal. It looks like a flippin' rift tombstone
