If you are just going for total experience in a match, legos have produced the biggest experience, as long as they work shield wall and let everything hit them. I could never play that way though. After lego gets Counterstrike he can just go into the thick of mobs and taunt the whole map...it's an efficient way to generate tons of exp within a reasonable time. Shield wall is still good for tanking bosses though. Isn't the whole point of the taunting to get them to hit your shield wall? I thought that was the only way they really generate the support experience.

I thought that was the only way they really generate the support experience. I believe the support exp from shield wall and taunting abilities(war cry, ambush, counterstrike) are different. And you don't need enemies to hit your shield to generate support exp after using counterstrike/war cry. As long as they have been "taunted" and someone kill them you'll get the support exp, which makes counterstrike a very efficient skill for the sake of generating exp especially on wide open maps like zone 4 FC where every foe can hear your cry. Pic #1 is the portion of damage/support exp when I killed an arch after I blocked his arrows with shield wall. #2 The damage/support exp after using counterstrike to taunt and kill them. #3 Damage exp without using any support abilities.

The problem with Support XP is that as you becoming stronger you will get less of it because everything is dying too fast. Hell, I couldn't go from almost full level 14 to level 20 on HB FC (no Dragon) even with constant Barrier spamming. Now days I can only activate Counterstrike two times, sometimes three times, per zone on HB FC. And in the end, you will stop caring...

I use to solo one perilous room and then suicide my LVL 1 AW. It's enough to get the barrier, upgraded chain lightning and go NM.
When I'm LVL 19 near promoting I also solo HB until I die, get enough XP or get bored.
It's funny cause sometimes other people join. Once a LB friend of mine has joined and it was taking so much time to him to die that we quit suiciding and finished the match.

Well support exp is still relevant for relatively new players...And not everyone is committed to playing this game for so long that they'll have such kind of problem...

I remember feeling like a dick for taking Legionnaire without Shield Wall... Until I realised I don't owe anyone support xp and can play the game however I like.

Generating support xp is slooooooow and in the end you can gain more xp in two faster games than in one slow, no metter how strong your team is. Weaker team will generate more support xp on harder difficulties naturaly, due to slower killing and that's it.

Yeah, and no though. I agree on the Lego. I have always sided on going through the match quickly, but I am still impressed by the skill (and patience) to get to 80k. With good legos and support you probably can promote in two NM FC runs.. it will just take a while.
As long as I am in NM or HB, I will always try to hit as many enemies as possible, without necessarily trying to kill them unless they represent a sufficient threat. Especially with characters like AW, Saarebas, Elementalist, and Keeper. Sometimes I play that way with the Reaver as well.. one dragon rage and move on. I don't think it is a coincidence that I am often at the top of the experience board at the end, even when playing with multiple leaderboarders.
(Not that my goal is to be on top.. my goal is to contribute mightily to the experience generation)
EDIT: Same reason I will consistently barrier folks who don't need it.. more support xp.

I thought that was the only way they really generate the support experience. I usually go into the thick of the mob and call Counterstrike to taunt as many as I could then use shield for the ones I missed At the Bug Fixes section you'll find that "Taunt now generates support XP" from the hallowed words of our Saint Luke

It really depends how you play and who you play with. If the game won't be over quickly, might as well generate some support xp. It just isn't worth going out of your way to do it if you can kill a zone in a couple of minutes, which some people definitely can. I'm still a fan of convenient support xp, like barrier/taunts you'd be using anyway, and timely blocking. Worth using what you have. Just don't stand there for five seconds waiting for that one enemy to hit your shield. I only play because I want to, though. I care more about completions than promotions, so xp farming has never been high on my list.

So is it accurate to say that you don't get more support XP from using shield wall on an enemy that was already taunted as compared to an enemy that was only taunted? Basically, is shield wall redundant in this case?

Basically, is shield wall redundant in this case? No, because without 360 degree field of vision, you don't know if you taunted 'everyone' in any particular area of the zone you're in. So shield isn't redundant. I rarely get 100% support XP, but I'd strive for it

Couple friends have been running 1 perilous, 1 HB for promotes in somewhere from 30-35 minutes. I believe its a Lego/Saarebas duo from level 1 at perilous FC non dragon then same on HB no dragon. Having another person or two to generate more xp doesn't hurt either. Also not sure if that hits 20 exactly each time. Bottom line is play however you have the most fun, and you'll be sure to find like-minded friends that will play in similar fashion. The game has become much more about the fun conversations than whats actually taking place in game.

Like I said, slower killing more support xp. Just managed to earn 150k with two support Sares, Frank as Necro and I as AW on HB FC.
