I'm disappointed that they decreased the companion limit to five instead of the typical six, but I suppose I can get over it. I hope Pillars 2 makes the same kind of jump in quality that Baldurs Gate 2 made over the original. The first game was good but it had way too much filler combat, plus the story didn't really captivate me.
I also love that Eder is coming back. The multiclassing and subclasses also seem very intriguing, they open up a lot of possibilities for making unique builds.

Sounds very interesting! PoE was good, closer to IWD series than BG. I liked it a lot. I`m quite curious how Obsidian will handle a sequel that close in time compared to BW, in terms of dealing with PoE decisions in PoE2. And with a returning protagonist (I hope not at Level 1). And companions (Eder at least).

And companions (Eder at least). I imagine relocating from the Dyrwood to the Deadfire Archipelago simplifies things somewhat. Also, from one of the updates: Now, on to importing your PoE1 character! At the start of Deadfire, you will have the option to import a special end of game save from Pillars of Eternity. This will import your Watcher and the choices that you made in the Dyrwood, including quest states, conversation choices, and how you personally dealt with your companions, friends, foes, and orlan babies. The save game is cross platform compatible, so you will be able to import from Mac to Linux, Gog to Steam, etc. This is the first time that the Obsidian team has the freedom to explore this type of cross game reactivity and progression, and we are very excited to add long term choice and consequence to Deadfire.
To address three common questions:
1) What if my dear friend Aloth "fell" into a Skaenite blood pool? If you directly or indirectly got a companion killed or never recruited them in your save game, they will not be present in the Deadfire. However...
2) What if I never played Pillars of Eternity or I want to start a new game with different story states? During the introduction to the Deadfire, you will be able to establish choices from Pillars of Eternity as though you had played through the game. Importing the save directly is not a requirement for establishing story states.
3) Am I still 11th/14th/16th level? As you saw in our intro video, Eothas is very hungry and your soul is delicious. Your Watcher begins again as a level 1character.

I hate Level 1 characters, and I finished the game and expansion with a Deadfire Archipelago character, and I deleted him. Now I have to play PoE again! Not that is such a big chore... Thank you for the news!

Same, haven't played PoE since its release, so going to do a clean save with the expansion. Wonder if they changed alot in patches. There are some significant changes, even compared to White March Part 1. I did the same after WM P2 - played again the whole game. Part 2 is good. The White March has a good story, some tough battles and many good quests, especially an insane one concerning a certain monk... THAT was one of the craziest quests I`ve played. Compared to this, sarcastic Hawke`s "quest" for the key at Chateau Haine`s party was cheap...

Wonder if they changed alot in patches. White March raised the level cap, and added a new high-level questline once you have claimed Caed Nua (in addition to the White March itself). New talents were also added, including some that flirted with multiclassing. Patches have lowered the number of end-game combats that were seen as too filler, added a Caed Nua quest chain where you have to defend it from a rival claimant, the "adventures" you send your companions on work a little differently now. This in addition to various rebalancing, Survival now giving rest bonuses, Athletics now gives you "Second Chance (a per encounter self-heal), bug fixes, etc.

That monk is awesome Indeed! I didn`t wanted to spoil the fun for anyone who haven`t played White March, but that quest was something. All companions in PoE are very good, and most NPC`s. I liked even the Ogre you can hire. Well written and fun, Different from BW characters, but that is the beauty for me: another RPG style, kind of story, world-building. Intriguing characters. This is why I liked BW`s experiment with DA2. Far from perfect, but still something different from the old formula. If PoE2 will be as good as PoE, and still fresh (with new ideas) it will be great fun to play!

1.8M Xoti is in! About Xoti: Xoti, a meadow folk/savannah folk priest/monk, is our seventh Deadfire companion. As a follower of Gaun, the aspect of Eothas associated with harvests, she wields a sickle and a lantern. When she was a young girl, she was one of thousands of Readcerans who came to Deadfire fleeing the devastation that followed the vorlas blight and the Saint's War. Her family, like many others, established themselves as farmers, and she fell in love with the lush jungles and bright beaches of her adopted homeland. She is intrigued by the rumors of Eothas' manifestation, but she fears what that will mean for her fellow expatriates, many of whom followed his previous incarnation into war and defeat. 2.2M stretch goal: UI customization, Italian localization What UI customization means: Now, it wouldn't be a proper update if we didn't give you info about our newest stretch goal. In addition to Italian language localization, this one has two features. First, we would like to create unique portraits for every quest-giving NPC across the entire game. Portraits are a wordless way to tell a story about a character and this is something we wished we could have done more with in the first game. Our talented 2D artist, Matt Hansen, has developed a watercolor-style portrait for conversations that could allow us to add many, many more portraits to the game. Second, we would like to add a highly requested feature, UI Customization. Inspired by the mod community from Pillars of Eternity, we would like to add in the option to customize the position of UI elements, toggle pieces of the UI on and off, adjust HUD transparency, and much more.

I just hope there's no downside to creating a PoE state versus importing. I don't hold onto my saves for reasons of space and I don't have time for another playthrough.

With sub-classes now being in, I'd be inclined NOT to import just so I could take advantage of them Like BG2 having kits while BG1 did not...

They should implement a system where you could import your PoE data while also having the option of redoing character creation if you want. In fact, since we'll be starting at level 1 regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if it's only your choices that carry through and everyone does their character from scratch at the beginning in terms of choosing your class, distributing stats etc.

I'd imagine that it might be less detailed, perhaps only handles the bigger decisions. That's kind of what I'm worried about. I would prefer there be no difference or it'll bug me. (Part of why I'm a big fan of the DA Keep)
