Thank you! It's so much pleasure to read this thread! Everyone is so cultural, nice and speculating, in my country people mocked me for being this much Jaal-loving , and here it's not a crime))

The crime should be not loving Jaal!    You fit in just fine here.

Still crossing my fingers n' toes for that squishy Cora to be Bi, lol. Otherwise I'll just have to go for the tried n' true blue again.

Once a day I search "mass effect andromeda" on google hoping for news. ;sobs;

But that picture of Ryder and Jaal. I have no words.

So I've been lurking reading this thread the last few days. What is wrong with me?? Almost nothing is known of this character, but I'm borderline so obsessed that I'm reading dozens of pages of message board chatter and eating it all up too. I'm afraid to watch the trailer in case the character's voice throws me off.   I don't feel bad admitting it's so shamelessly shallow of me because I see plenty of others are quite openly acknowledging that's the situation for themselves too.



I've never followed one of Bioware's RPGs prior to its launch before. It's so much drama just wondering about straight, bi, or same sex options for the characters. I can't imagine the meltdowns that must have happened with the Dragon Age games with race/species of the player character mixed in too.

Has it ever been determined whether the sides of the Angaran heads are ear-tentacle things or attached all the way down the neck?  I wondered the same thing about the Asari too.  I really need to get around to playing the third game some day.  I didn't know the question was answered on the Asari front.  Yeah I'm hyped for this game but didn't finish the other trilogy first... I suppose I do have time to do so though!

They kind of look attached on Jaal but the females have clothing up their necks so they can't be on them. Maybe if someone asks on Twitter, it'll be answered. It's not a spoiler, after all, but I'm strangely super curious about it!

I saw the twitter post about "straight man" and got almost a heart attack. Had to read this thread at...7am to get myself pacified. But the thing is...I'm really scared they made Jaal straight. I've swallowed so many disappointments on that front from Bioware, but at least they always give me something, unlike other companies (If anyone here plays SWTOR, can I just mention Quinn and Vector and be done with it, my Sith Warrior is dying from blue balls because I decided he is in unrequited love with Quinn).

I think I have to explain why I don't simply roll a female and be done with it. Or, I don't have to, but I want to, because things are not always so simple.

I'm a female-to-male transgendered. A transman. I'm hoping to start transitioning this year. On top of that I'm gay, a 100% one. Totally attracted to men. And a romantic sap. Yes, gay transman is a thing. Now, I don't go all the way to try to explain what it feels like to be a trans, but it means I can't play female characters. Gaming has always been a major stress reliever for me, and one big hint for me about my transness was my total obsession of my male characters. I knew they are me, and I'm not actually role-playing when I'm my character, I just knew it was helpfull and made me feel good. A little bit too good, because escapism is common around trans people, it gives us an opportunity to be ourselves.

I never play games where protagonist is a female, and it is not because I dislike females. It is because it makes me feeling worse. If I have to play a female, it takes 90% of fun out of the game for me. It doesn't matter when the game is something without a story, in pure hack and slash I can tolerate a female toon if I have to make one because of gender locking (Korean games often gender lock classes), but even then I do try to avoid it.I have to struggle every day in a world where people are adamant to see me as a woman, and it is a constant fight that takes it's toll in me. I'm quite a hermit now.

I had to play a female in SWTOR because I wanted to record Quinn-romance (and experience it myself), and it was torture, I didn't enjoy a second. I left SWTOR for half a year after that because I was so angry. You might think it is irrational to be angry from someting like that, but gender dysphoria is totally irrational thing, and I live with it every day. It has always made me do irrational things to avoid feeling bad, or at least worse, and for decades I didn't even know what was wrong with me.

So this was a long post, sorry, and off-topic and everything, I just want people to see where I'm coming from and why I'm obsessed about Jaal's sexual orientation. It is a deal breaker for me, because I will legit cry if yet again one character is snapped from me.

And everytime someone says characters being player sexual is unrealistic and breaks immersion and they don't want it, I would like to claw my eyes out from sheer frustration. I had to say that out loud now. For me it feels like...people being selfish. Taking for granted that they are always catered because they are cis-gendered heterosexuals, and not seeing past that. If I offended someone now, sorry, but that's how I feel. Player sexuality doesn't take anything away from you.

But yeah, I really would like to get more news about LI's and who can get what before I decide to buy the game in full price. I will buy it, but full price is a lot of money for someone who doesn't make much.

I absolutely agree with your point of "player sexual" (though I maintain that the LI's in DA2 were bisexual not "player sexual" seriously can the fandom stop with the bi erasure), people spouting nonsense about it being unrealistic in a game with dragons and magic like??? And saying that it's unrealistic that theres a whole four bisexual people in a group of eight (minus Hawke) despite it being very realistic as many LGBT+ tend to group together for familiarity and safety. The only real arguement I see against having all bisexual (or pansexual) love interests is that it takes away from gay/lesbian representation.

You don't have to apologise for writing a long post- it's perfectly valid to want to romance a character with your own gender and given the Mass Effect team's history... well.. I can understand why you are worried. I personally feel like there was SUCH a want/call for a gay alien romance that they have to make Jaal available for male Ryder. They would be incredibly stupid not to.

this is why they should just release the LI info- it doesn't hurt them to release it and anyone who doesn't wanna know can just avoid it

That whole Twitter exchange is hilarious. Fryda feels bad that she accidentally sicced the fanbase love force on Nyasha (and on that note, let's not gang up on Nyasha)! But it also seems like she only knows he's Jaal because of IMDB just like the rest of us. Lucky for her that information turned out to be correct or this all would have been incredibly awkward.
