So you want to put on a movie before sitting down for Andromeda huh? Okay, here are some personal recommendations of my own:
- Mass Effect: Paragon Lost - kind of an obvious one, but I do recommend you give this direct-to-dvd anime movie a shot, whether you're a fan of mass effect or not. The action is great, the story is suspenseful, and the animation is pretty sweet. (These are the same guys behind the Ghost in the Shell movies and that animated scene from Kill Bill Vol 1)
- Treasure Planet - a criminally underrated movie in my opinion, Disney's Treasure Planet practically screams space epic, with gorgeous animation, likeable characters, and a kickass music score perfect for a Mass Effect game in my mind! (in fact, if anyone can make a video of a scene replacing the mass effect music with treasure planet music that would be really awesome!)
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire - from one underrated Disney movie to another, Atlantis is once again about explorers searching for a lost land. But instead of space, it's under the sea. The tone is much darker than treasure planet, with more of a pulp action feel to it. And it's so cool!
- Star Wars: I mean, it's a cinematic classic and one of the defining sci-fi franchises of all time! Duh!
- Star Trek: Beyond - truthfully, any star trek movie can go in here, from a classic to one of the Abrams reboot movies, but I put Beyond because it's my personal favorite, and it feels the closest to Mass Effect (part of it because their's a space station VERY similar to the Citadel and the voice actress for Admiral Shala'Raan is in it).

- Contact (1997). One of my favorite movies of all time and I'm reading the novel too. All you need to know is that there are certain visual ideas as well as intellectual ones that Mass Effect clearly used for Inspiration, particularly the Mass Relays and Crucible.
- Alien: it's got so many genre-defining visuals for science fiction and it's an awesome movie. Not just a splatter-horror contrary to some beliefs. Give it a watch.
- Interstellar: It's a super flawed movie (plot hangs by a thread in the end) but it has moments. Oh, it has moments I tell you and the picture is so good it's baffling.
- Space Oddysey 2010 - The Year We Make Contact. It's the somewhat controversial sequel among fans of the first. It's not in the same style. It's more like a normal movie but I was surprised at how good it actually is despite not being as reliant on the picture itself.

Edge of Tomorrow.
Because obviously.
Not only it has the closest thing to a femshep in films, but its aliens are the deadliest as well.

Edge of Tomorrow. Because obviously. Not only it has the closest thing to a femshep in films, but its aliens are the deadliest as well. Agreed plus the " repeat " scenes were hilarious at times. Screamers - Based on a Philip K. Dick story, cult classic. Abandoned on a mining planet fighting a war while machines are trying to kill you. Pandorum - Underrated scifi horror movie, fits the colonization theme with hypersleep etc. ( fun fact , Norman Reedus plays Shepard ) I like cult classics.

The Martian (frontier survivalism) The Last Starfighter (fish out of water with alien encounters) Tango and Cash (because, come on, who doesn't love Kurt Russell)

68.media.tumblr.com/1dd92b31d597016f37e6139efc60de0e/tumblr_o75do71QZ31tslewgo1_500.gifAliens. Still IMO one of the best sci-fi films and action flicks ever. Ridley Scott's Alien as well, obviously because of just how well it frames horror in space. If you're all for creepy Chris Pratt creeping on Jennifer Lawrence in space, but making it super romantic instead of thriller (which is what they should have done), then sure, Passengers, since visually its great, but plot, character, and narrative wise, its a steaming pile of dung.

It's more like a normal movie but I was surprised at how good it actually is despite not being as reliant on the picture itself. I'm really curious about this one, since 2010 is my favorite novel in the series. It's not supposed to follow the novel very closely though, is it? Not that that would be a problem. 2001 the movie is a totally different experience compared to 2001 the book anyway.

That one sci fi future movie with Exo suits where rich ppl live in space with machines that can cure anything? You mean Elysium? With Not a bad choice, considering it shares its name with a famous ME location. I actually like Matt Damon, BTW. Still have to watch the Martian.

Hmm. The Halo Movies that have been done are pretty decent. Other than that I recommend a lot of what others did, Edge of Tomorrow, Star Wars, Star Trek(ME: A Seems very Star Trek inspired)

I dunno The Martian wasnt really all that great. It did go into themes a lil bit, controversys, exploration and space travel. But the rest was comedy and rooting for Matt Damon while hes alone surviving when the theme of Masseffect is unity and accomplishing things together

Went into Passengerz thinking it would be awful (saw reviews.) Was pleasantly surprised. A lot of Mass Effect type things on the ship that people would like here.

Underrated movie. Critics gave it middling to good reviews. Watchers rated it much higher. A lot of critics loved it, it has a 90% or so on RT for example. Although I'd say anyone who didn't give it an 11/10 is underrating it, what it lacked more than good reviews is people going to the theater to see it!

The Last Starfighter (1984) The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) When Worlds Collide (1951) The Andromeda Strain (1971) Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008) TRON & TRON Legacy -So what? -I am Tron aficionado.

If you can handle art horror along the lines but not the same as May or Ravenous you may enjoy a taste of The Neon Demon.

Tried to watch Paragon Lost last night, but anime is just not my jam.
The thought of Vega parkouring up cliffs was just weird. At least there's going to be jetpacks now.

The new Star Trek movies since Abrams' reboot feel like Mass Effect movies to me anyway. They have everything you'd expect from an ME movie: - Wacky plotlines - Cool characters - Lot's of action - Either tight outfits or space armor - Sleek design - Loooooot's of lens flare Change the ship models and say "Alliance" instead of "Federation" and you are pretty much there.
