Hi guys. Not reading the thread because I'm not done yet with the game, but I found something in the Codex. So sorry if someone said this, but as I said. NOT. RISKING IT. Suvi's background codex says that she has a degree in molecular biology and during early 2180s, she worked with a team doing cutting edge Biomedical and Cybernetics research. This alone isn't very interesting, but stay with me!
Eventually, the team was approached by a black ops organization for a classified biomedical project. In early 2180s. I'm nearly sure this offer was in late 2183.
And that we may change "black ops organization" for Cerberus and "classified biomedical project" for Project Lazarus.
Which means she was offered to work on Shepard's rebuilding, but refused.
Thank goodness, too. As we know, only three people made it off Lazarus Station alive: Miranda Lawson, Jacob Taylor, and Commander Shepard. Everyone else was a total loss. Which means Suvi would've died on the station, never even named! Hence my little theory. Back to... admiring.

So some days back I mentioned the dialogue that drew me in to talk to Suvi for the first time. Finally got it recorded!

So I've read on some other forum that Suvi gets married with Kallo. What's this about??? Don't worry, it's just one of Jaal's little "pranks," where he teaches Liam an Angaran song, saying it was a sailor's song (if I remember this correctly) while it's actually an Angaran wedding ritual, which he then performed for Suvi and Kallo. So by Angaran standards you could say the two of them would unknowingly be wed, provided Liam is seen as the proper person to conduct such a ritual

Wait so what did I do that was like that? Not a thing. Your words seemed to be defending Cora's hair from something like it. That's pretty much all I was saying.

Wait so what did I do that was like that? The problem with your statement was that it was essentially shaming us (queer women) for complaining about a queer-coded character being straight, by going on about "well anyone can have that haircut!" Let me copypasta a thing my friend wrote about this issue: (you can read my friend's full post here) The problem with Cora is that she's incredibly queer coded, and her butch haircut does actually add to that coding. When we joke about "oh she has the bisexual haircut" or "her hair is short she definitely likes ladies" there's a historical context to that, and frankly, i'm tired of people (specifically, straight people) trying to take that little bit of queerness we identify with away from us.

But she just cut her hair short! Of course she did. It isn't owned by anyone. She was with asari matriachs who arball bald. Why wouldn't she keep her hair short. It makes her fit in. I'm not shaming anyone I'm just saying there isn't a character owned by any group.
Suvi is a blonde haired Christian. She isn't owned by the straight community, they can't have her she only likes girls.
People can't just demand anything. I think it's a very big problem for people to think like "this is mine. This piece of culture is mine. This picture of a celebrity that leaked is mine"
Entitlement to things that aren't or can't be yours can lead to people getting hurt and I just don't like that, so I spoke up and mentions that all she did was cut her hair and be inspired by another women.

Some people you expect to be gay or straight could be the either. You shouldn't try to make everyone fit because of how they are...she can be short haired and tough but still want a boyfriend. My problem is mostly that there's a huge lack of short-haired, tough women that want a girlfriend, in media. Usually, a tough women is depicted as okay as long as she "settles down" with a dude and is secretly feminine. That's my issue with it. Yes, there are straight women with haircuts associated with LGBT women. However, the percentage of straight women with butch haircuts doesn't really compare with the number of LGBT women who wear those haircuts. And they're highly underrepresented in contrast to straight women with that haircut. Discussing that isn't saying that butch lesbians "own" that haircut.

Well sort of. But I was mostly arguing against putting people into stereotypes or saying certain communities own other things.

But I was mostly arguing against putting people into stereotypes or saying certain communities own other things. I haven't seen anyone say that butch lesbians own short hair, just that those haircuts were very popular with that community. Which is true and used as a way to find other lesbians more easily. Some stereotypes exist for a reason. That doesn't mean straight women shouldn't have those haircuts, just that it's weird to get mad over assuming that women with certain hair cuts are lesbians.

Suvi is a blonde haired Christian. okay number 1: she's a redhead number 2: where the hell does she mention her religion? she just says she believes in god. she can be whatever we want her to be and you wanna know something? the way she talks about god is incredibly jewish in nature. my source? im jewish. I can headcanon her however the hell I want and suvi anwar is the biggest jew on the tempest, a proud convert, and she jews it up with proud mizrahi jew gil brodie every friday night for shabbat don't take this away from me. I already don't have enough jewish rep in the media let alone jewish gay rep. I have batwoman and sydney katz on saving hope that's it so don't you dare take this away from me. (also don't go claiming her to be christian as the end all be all if you're gonna criticize the whole "cora has a butch haircut thing" like please. stop.)

She really looks a strawberry blonde to me But okay she believes in God one way or another. Im just saying there are more straight people that believe in god than lesbians. But straight people don't own it and can't take it. It's the same for Cora. She has a haircut that is more associated with gay people but she still just has a haircut, it doesn't define her or anything.

She has a haircut that is more associated with gay people but she still just has a haircut, it doesn't define her or anything. im just. in what world does "believing in god" automatically = christian like. hell, i'd love to see someone walk in with a muslim suvi headcanon as well like the beauty of suvi's faith is that they keep it non-denominational so we can headcanon any religion we want on her and yeah, sure, hair is just hair, but there's tons of culture surrounding that and the point I was trying to illustrate is that part of what makes characters like jack, cassandra, and cora queercoded is their haircuts because historically those were haircuts queer women wore to find, well, other queer women. that's how they become "gay haircuts". like, tell me this woman is straight (spoilered bc size): there are looks/fashions that are inherently queer, that includes haircuts, and part of cora's problem is that she fits those queer styles but is straight. its like straight people keep taking things away from us. at least let us have our style yanno?

I do understand the sentiment I just think profiling is bad (which as you showed with the pic is accidental and inherent) but it can be really bad to try to claim things. I think it's okay if someone wants a haircut that seems to be from another group or culture or whatever. A girl once got bullied for wanting dreads (she was white) and it's fine if she wants dreads to me. She isn't stealing dreads from a black woman, she just likes it. And I like having long hair and I like girls with long hair so I don't like the idea that lesbians get short haircuts and Lon hair is assumed straight especially because my crush is the biggest girly girl ever and I don't want that to mean she's automatically not into me (even though statistically I know I can still imagine things!)
And I wasn't trying to take any Suvi headcanons away. I just hear someone talk about God and think of christians. Most people where I am are Christians.

Long hair isn't something that is tied into a "straight community" the way many butch styles are tied into the lesbian community, so the comparison doesn't really work. On a side note, I understand your feelings. I was into a girl with very long hair, and I kept wondering whether she was into girls. Weeks later, she asked me out on a date! Don't give up.

And I wasn't trying to take any Suvi headcanons away. I just hear someone talk about God and think of christians. Most people where I am are Christians. oy gavolt where to start with this 1) white people should not have dreads. here's a really good article explaining why.2) on that note, you don't get to speak for black women in regards to black hairstyles. i'm not black, and thats why I linked the article. to give you a black voice on the matter, because obviously you haven't met very many black people in your life. 3) having long hair and being feminine is fine, no one is saying that. however, you even mention it yourself; people associate long hair = straight. of course that doesn't mean they're necessarily straight, however, I will say femme culture is very different from butch culture and the problem is Bioware takes butch culture, which is something, well, queer, and applies it to straight women. it's not progressive. it just shoves us further and further in the closet. I posted lea delaria bc her and ellen degeneres are literally the only two super famous butch lesbian ladies out there and we need more rep. not our culture taken away from us to be """progressive""" 4) that's fine, feel free to project your own religious perspective on her, but don't just say she's a christian bc she believes in god. headcanon her as christian all you like but. that comment really irked me because There's More Than One Religion That Believes In God Monotheistically but it looks like the christian bubble is alive and well and not getting popped anytime soon

That article is the problem. It is not a "black hairstyle" it's just a hairstyle. And it originated with black people Using it but it doesn't belong to anyone. There's no need so separate or hurt people any further over something like your hair. People are literally doing no damage by getting a different hairstyle so nobody should act like it's theirs or claim it. She thought she looked good in dreads so she put dreads on, out doesn't mean anything.
Having a lady with short hair isn't stealing culture. Culture isn't tied to hair save few religious practices. Butch girls tend to like the hairstyle, but it doesn't mean they own it. A straight girl can wear it and the only affect it will have is maybe a gay girl thinks she's hot but can't date her; but it's something that may happen to straight guys who like gay girls too!
And I was only saying that to explain that I wasn't trying to take your headcanon away from you. I wouldn't argue against what you said for any reason; I was simply giving the reason I said that. Like how you'll say she is Jewish. It won't be something to debate. I'll probably slip and casually call her Christian again. Doesn't mean I think anyone is wrong or mean for calling her Jewish just that it's what I'm used to and how I see things

*sigh* No reasoning with that one. I'm gonna bring this thread back to our regularly scheduled cuteness* *cuteness is not for racists who think "hair is just hair" when white people are seen as """hip""" and """cool""" for having cornrows and dreads which don't actually work with white people hair at all meanwhile black people with those hairstyles that work naturally with their hair are called "messy" and "dirty". its a real issue. look it up if you dare to venture out the christian bubble. *ahem* Anyways here's my Ryder and Suvi bein REAL CUTE during the movie night scene if you wanna play with my Ryder* here's her mearchives page: masseffectarchives.com/#user/2268464279/playthrough/1711033970/gender/female*also not for racists.

You can't just call me racist and pick on me then change the subject and act like I'm the bad guy. I didn't do anything wrong just for not hurting anybody for my own projected offenses.
well whatever. I'm not racist but I'm sorry if I hurt you enough to say things like that to me.

I'm simply not exploding a group whatever your race is. I don't think race or place of birth should decide what you can and can't do.
