I guess I know what to expect now. Patriarchy smasher... yep I doubt she'll let her politics get in the way.
It's going to be centered around the Lodge of Sorceresses and Ciri, Cavill is there just to look pretty...

I guess I know what to expect now. I don't even like the Witcher but it shouldn't be spun to fit today's hot button topics. One of my gripes with MEA was the blatant 2016 SJW writing. The Angara being perfect spiritual bisexual accepting beings and the 'asari pronouns' conversation made me I couldn't help but think that it ages MEA terribly, as it's so spun around the ideals of today and not 150 years in the future. Don't they realise this shit will turn off a bunch of people and demean the original work? Not to mention how it effects the way female writers are perceived as a whole. I'm all for some faces of colour popping up here and there, Europe's been a mix for thousands of years after all, but changing the tone and spinning a whole new agenda within an established work will just turn this into a mockery.

I am curious. For someone having "patriarchy smasher" as a "trait" on their twitter bio, I assume reading the books must've been unbelievably painful for her. I'm surprised she likes the universe at all (assuming she actually does, that is).
These trends we're having today are getting dumber by the minute.

I highly doubt she likes it, although she probably likes what it can become in her own vision of what she considers the perfect political utopia. In their world they probably can't fathom why the unwashed masses likes stories like these and therefore they have to purify what we like for our own good. After all they know better than us and hey, how else are they going to spread their political message to us peasants en masse?... At least those are the vibes I get.
I'll continue to wait and see but without much hope.

I'm not sure where the report of Ciri nearly being black really came from. It feels like people violently reacted to some online info without properly checking if it was reliable or not. BTW, I wonder if part of Cavill's parting ways with Warner Bros is partly because of his work on the Witcher? Haven't gotten an answer to that yet. Before that, there was also the statement that Geralt would be black, before Henri Cavii was confirmed. There was also the certainty that Idris Elba would be the new James Bond according to some sites before he finally assured that was not true. I'm not really certain who are those throwing that kind of fake news and why they are doing this, the motivation behind this. However, I am quite amazed by how a lot of people are able to believe something without even looking for reliable sources and informations. That should be a reflex by now. The only thing they have is one word on some sites without any confirmation, or an anonyme source on reedit, that said that he got some informations. Really ? The woman doing the series TV was already attacked in the past, because Geralt was " black ", while it never was the case at all. And no, it's not because of some violent reactions online that Geralt is finally.. not black. It just... never was supposed to happen. That might be... the same for Ciri, I don't know, maybe... We'll see. That would be hillarious, if all that shit happened for nothing. Again. We'll probably never know though. Two of the woman 's tweets : @lhissrich << So much hate today from those telling me I'm going to destroy #TheWitcher. It's sad that these people don't follow me. They aren't versed on anything but one or two tweets that someone has posted on some website, without context, leading to utter hysteria. >> << "WHY ARE YOU MAKING GERALT BLACK?" "WHY IS EVERYONE GAY NOW?" "WHY DO YOU HATE POLAND?" "WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING THE ONLY STORY OF SLAVIC CULTURE?" This kind of inflammatory black-and-white rhetoric is not only dangerous, but patently untrue. >> So maybe wait and see, just that. After, if it is true, people are still allowed to scream, cry, or whatever the hell they want. Anyways, the serie TV done by netflix, putting so much hope into this is quite risky. Even if people get their " white Ciri " , I'm not certain that the content will still be satisfactory for them. There could still be a lot of other reasons to be disappointed. The characters or the spirit of the story that might not be respected, the content way too soft, combats that feel too fake and too boring etc. The choice for Henri Cavii for example seems quite odd as Geralt. For sure, he is very handsome, but I do hope he was chosen for other reasons than aestetic. It might be better to remain pessimistic, while being able to be greatly surprised after,if the content is good. Often the best strategy. That's what I have done with Game of thrones, I'll do the same with the Witcher serie TV. <iframe width="23.62000000000012" height="3.4000000000000057" style="position: absolute; width: 23.62000000000012px; height: 3.4000000000000057px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_12899712" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.62000000000012" height="3.4000000000000057" style="position: absolute; width: 23.62px; height: 3.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1121px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_14298640" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.62000000000012" height="3.4000000000000057" style="position: absolute; width: 23.62px; height: 3.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 111px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_97420048" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="23.62000000000012" height="3.4000000000000057" style="position: absolute; width: 23.62px; height: 3.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1121px; top: 111px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_40150242" scrolling="no"></iframe>

But I think she's also flicking gasoline into this firestorm by saying nothing. She could just easily say that the post is fake or not, but she stayed quiet. Instead, letting it fester into this gigantic shtshow. She should have known how attached the Witcher fans are of this world, and there's a LOT of them. Like... a whole country and the rest from all over the world. I think the casting sheet is legit, but the backlash was so great they have to backtrack since "apparently" , a white polish girl will play her now. As it should be. Ciri is not black or brown (like me) or anything but pale white. Maybe a mixed japanese, korean or chinese can play her though, since they have very pale, flawless and glowing skin. Just slap on green lense and platinum dye her hair. Also, I get that even if we get a white Ciri, some things could still go wrong. But changing the characters drastically point blank from a popular source material and an even popular game which stayed "mostly" with the source characterwise is a sure way of killing the hype. The reason why GoT was so popular and loved was because it mostly stayed true to the books with the close help from the author. Mr. Sappy on the other hand have seem to have disappeared from the picture. They probably payed him to bugger off :/

xetykins : She didn't stay quiet : << You guys. You KNOW I don’t comment on casting. I never have. I never will. >> She also always said several times, << don't believe anything ( whether from tweets or sites ) that isn't a confirmation >> from them. What else could she do ? It is quite clear to me. That reminds me of Bioware, at one time on former forums when people understood or assumed " we don't comment on rumors " as a confirmation of these rumors. The good old time. And what made you think it was legit ? It is just what you believe or have you seen anything material that made you think that way ? I personally think it never was in their plans to put Ciri as black. Now obviously, before the public damage, unlike their usual behavior, I suppose they were forced to tell that it would be a polish girl, yeah. But no. It is exactly the same polemic as it was for Geralt, and that was never in their plan to put him as black.

First, I dont believe there was ever a leaked casting sheet for Geralt, I could be wrong, but never read about it. Second, if they really were not the ones who put up that audition call for Ciri, I dont understand why not just say so. I know she said she wont comment, but she could just say "we did not do it" without saying anything about the cast. And thar's that, it would have been fine. Surely, protecting their livelihood is better than putting up with fake tweets. No? So, yeah. Either they backtracked impromptu or they were testing the waters on how tolerant or in this case, how "intolerant" the rabid Witcher fans are. Really, if it was HBO, I wouldn't have worried so much about it ☺️

I mean did you even SEE how laughable the so called casting sheet looked?) they would have to respond to every other ridiculous rumour floating around the internet. And the casting process is a very delicate prosecure to begin with these days with all the investor money and other pressures encouraging people not to rock the boat in any direction at this stage of development. I have been following Lauren Hissrich's tweets about this show from the start being the huge Witcher books fan that I am and I have nothing but trust for her writing team at this point. These whole controversies around the minorities being cast truly are irony at its finest considering how much bigotry and racism have always been one of the cornerstones of Witcher series's world and themes. I mean the main characters literally die in the end at the hands of angry idiot mob wielding pitchforks😂 This satire art below someone made about all this awhile back makes me laugh every day more. Only question is where the fuck is the internet equivelant of Merigolds hailstorm when we need it??😆

I personally think it never was in their plans to put Ciri as black. Now obviously, before the public damage, unlike their usual behavior, I suppose they were forced to tell that it would be a polish girl, yeah. But no. Considering the above, I thought that the leaked casting document showing them looking specifically for "BAME" actress was plausible. Hell, I still think it's quite possible that it was legit but they walked back on it because of the response. Seems rather unlikely that Netflix would dramatically shift their casting preferences in the space of, what, a week ? And going by Lauren's tweet from earlier in the year. I'm thinking that dramatically changing Ciri's appearance from what's presented in the books was perhaps not the original intention. And we don't know if they walked back. They said absolutely nothing. You have just a rumor, like " they are looking for a polish girl " from Reedit, with no context and circonstance whatsoever. It might have been always the case. This " anonyme source " might even be false too as far as I am concerned. Two unconfirmed rumors. Or it could be a real guy working for Lauren, trying to fix in a non-officially way, the fake rumor they couldn't officially disappprove of. Who knows ? -- xetykins : There were fake online articles from suspicious sites that confirmed Geralt as black, it was the same for James Bond. Of course, when you read the articles, anyone using his brain a little could actually notice that they got no evidences, except some " anonyme source " or rumors, or speculation, or vague statements from some famous folks. It was persistent for months, until Cavill was confirmed and Idris Elba assured he would not be James Bond. But some people read " confirmed as " in the title of these articles, and it was enough for them to believe that overall. So yeah, some stupid reactions on internet. That was just irrational. Even before that, we had people claiming that type of nonsense, without any evidence. Also, polishs are considered as an ethnic minority ( slavic ) in Great Britain. Even if that document was true, who says it wasn't for a polish girl, looking and noticing the actors overall. In reality we have no idea what's been happening behind the scenes or what were Netflix's original intentions. This whole mess is based on rumors and a fairly vague casting ad. Also I hope you were kidding with your last sentence by the way ... Since when we must give in to racists, stalkers, and bigots, just to be in peace ? No. Never. What is that kind of shit, where now, the productors must answer to all fake suspicious rumors like, Omg Ciri will be a trans in the serie TV " with violent and despicable tweets like :" YOU BITCH, YOU LITERALLY DESTROYED THE FRANCHISE, WHY IS CIRI A TRANS ? WHY IS EVERYONE GAY ?" You do realize that there are a lot of rumors and nonsense on internet, even on reedit, right ? I don't know, being insulted for something you even might haven't done, doesn't give me any will to answer, personally. It shouldn't be the usual reaction toward that kind of stupidity to me. And since Farci explained quite well why she wouldn't do that, a lot of companies doing actually the same.. I'll stop right there.

Which part of what I wrote gave you the idea of me being tolerant of racism and bigotry? I even highlighted the word "intolerant" and rabid fandom. I even said that a mixed korean, chinese and japanese could work as Ciri because they are pale, like how Ciri was discribed in the books. Oh, I hope they make her bi/gay too cuz that is who she is.
Ofc people are mad about the BAME thing because this is such a beloved franchise. I actually followed her twitter since this debacle and yes there are ott posters there which makes my blood boil, but most of them are just die hard fans who just wants them to stay true to the books and crafted their case in a polite way with probably a little bite. Problem is, if people speaks out against it, theyre automatically branded as racists and bigots. Or did you fail to notice that? They even called me a white supremacist for saying "i hope its not true" and I am as brown as a cookpots bottom after 2 days of cooking marathon without scrubbing it.
Yes, there are a lot of racism and bigotry in the books. So, present it the way it is, with the trolls, elves and dwarves.
Seriously, before all these became a cookpot of shtstorm which they could have avoided by saying " not our post, she was always on twitter...
All in all I sincerely hope she would stick to her post about not changing their characters around because I am really looking foreward to this show. And oh, I am a big Henry fan.

@ Xetykins. I never talked about you. Anywhere. I'm aware you are seriously and honestly concerned like I suppose many other folks and that's fine by me. I only mentioned the rabid haters on twitter that insulted her for doing something that wasn't even confirmed.. sometimes with racist implications... I mean, these guys don't deserve an answer to their dumb tweets, just to be ignored. That's all what I said. A compagny having to justificate itself just because of them, so you could have peace and stop being harassed is the wrong way to think for me. Bigots should be ignored. That's all what I meant.
As for the other die hard and casual fans, they just have to wait. They'll know soon enough. Like everywhere else, you learn about the casting when THEY ARE READY. I'm not certain why that should be different here, and I'm not sure what's so difficult actually. They are not forced to respond to rumors that appears in the media. Rumors have always been part of the game, they will continue to happen in the future.
There is still one year. The only thing we can think as certificated is what coming from the netflix production. Well, mostly, if Lauren comes back on twitter as well... For now, I think she is going to remain silent for a while.

I'm surprised you have full trust since most American adaptations of foreign IP's are heavy-handed at best, disconnected at worst. I can clearly see Lauren is talented and inspired by the source material. Her writers? Eh...not so sure. I truly hope for the best and the fact they have some GOT talent on board helps as well, but I have less faith in Mrs. Patriarchy Smasher and co. I won't even go into how positively obsessed American creatives are with inserting politics into media at the moment, 'everything is political' is the new mantra I've heard countless times now.

Hmm...any comments from Sapkowski on this? He sounded positively ecstatic when they announced the show, but last I heard he's no longer working on(with?) it. Hope he got royalties this time around.

No idea, can't find any direct quote from him that's recent either, but I think he was all for the TV show because of his resentment for the game series that has done his characters a great disservice in his opinion. Not sure Netflix will turn his work into what he envisions though...

"Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics. Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge."

Is Thronebreaker the singleplayer campaign of the Gwent game? If so I'm up for it. Love Gwent!!! I still play the physical card game with friends sometimes.

It seems to be a standalone game, it even has its own page on GOG (both site and software platform).

It might be a totally different game in general. Maybe it's not exactly Gwent, but it might be a card-based strategy game that tells an original story.

Just think of it as a Witcher game armed with Gwent cards instead of swords.

Is the Witcher worth playing? Well, the answer to that question is subjective to every player. Personally, I like the concept behind the game and the story of the Witcher in the process. A mutant monster slayer who travels around the fantasy kingdom hunting supernatural creatures for coin while also exploring the seedy underbelly of society and politics. Pretty much a fantasy Private Detective. (there's a great Extra Credit video about it). This is also a game where the star is the world. From what I hear, this is one of the most realized open-worlds in gaming history, with spectacular landscapes and NPC's that feel alive with their own personal backstories (the sidequests, after all, are the best parts of the game, from what I hear.) Here's my problem with the game though. Even on it's easiest difficulty, it's not a very easy game to get into. Many of the gameplay parts, like the controls, combat, and RPG menus take a while to get used to. Even if you can get used to the controls and figure out the mechanics of the game, my other gripe is that this is a game heavily based on recourses and inventory management. I'm the kind of player who usually equips whatever new weapon I find that's stronger than my currently equipped. I never really bother with crafting or upgrade systems unless I'm lucky enough to have the ingredients necessary. In Witcher, your whole success in the game is practically dependent on you brewing almost every potion and upgrading armor frequently. Pretty much all of my gameplay is a continuing pattern of play for a bit, check the inventory and crafting menus, return to game, forget what you're looking for, double check again. I feel Witcher 3 is more of a management game than an RPG adventure, and I'm not a huge fan of management games. So maybe Witcher 3 is not my kind of game to play.

I have to admit I've given up on W3 as well as W1 and W2 simply because the combat mechanics suck. Never got into them nor the hang of them as much as I liked the idea behind the games the combat was the killer.
