I feel like I would get a better overall experience for the whole franchise if I started from the beginning. I realize not a lot of people like the original game, but I've always been someone who enjoys playing for the narrative regardless of whether the actual gameplay is good This was why I started with the first game - I like to start at the beginning. I'm glad I did too, because I felt like I got to know Geralt as I went along in game 1. As he was remembering who he was, or deciding who he wanted to be, I got to do that with him. Not sure I would have liked him as much if I'd started with 3 where he already is back to where he was before the start of game 1. There is a lot of quest backtracking in the first game, and some of the mechanics are annoying (like where you can camp/sleep) but still a pretty fun game. I 've only played once so far but intend to play it again (and the other 2) here pretty soon.
If you are on PC, there are some mods you can use for the first game to make combat/survival pretty much a breeze. One for greatly increased health/stamina and one to unlock all skills right away, so you can spec however you want from the beginning. I still did the level up thing but instead of whatever the normal skill point allotment per level was, I'd add a bunch at once. I used a similar health/stamina mod for the second game, but managed 3 just fine with no mods. Game 2 has the wonkiest combat controls, imo, and stupid QTEs that made me want to . Also, the game 2 tutorial is awful.

First look at Henry Cavill as Geralt in the Witcher Netflix show. Looks a little too Legolasy, but here's hoping the actual performance is pretty good.

Could at least give him something that resembles the Kaer mohern armor or the manticore armor. And they could give Henry some make up. Geralt sure doesn't look like he is in his early 30's.

I like that the hair almost looks like in the game. The wig is so bad, it resemble NVidia hairworks. All they need now is to CGI in some clipping and we're good.

I think it will be fine, people will accept the look after the first few minutes if the story and acting are good.

I think Netflix had put themselves in a slight disadvantage here because pretty much everyone is going to associate the look of Witcher with the game, while this is meant to be it's own thing. It is worth noting that this series is meant to be an adaptation of the books which take place BEFORE the games.

Still no Dandelion?! Did I miss it?
Is that an official promo picture of Cavill? He looks like the cover of a cheesy romance novel... The hair is too long and silky imo. And they REALLY need to roughen his face up a bit!
The age isn't the problem. Geralt only looks old in W3 if we want to take the games as a visual template. He looked quite young even in W2. About 30.
I still don't like Cavill's pretty boy face as Geralt but let's see if he can get the mannerisms and voice down enough to sell the character.

And truthfully, Geralt's air always looked long and silky. This feels more like Witcher 1's design. Which makes sense as this series is based on the books which take place before the games.

I'm fairly amazed at how bad that is. The vainglorious hair is way overdone but the outfit in particular is so fucking lazy. Did they sow it up in an afternoon? Jesus christ. There's very little effort here to remain true to the books, overall cast included.

I prefer it that way, TBH. Big names brings big price tags along with big egos, and there's a whole crapload of undiscovered actors that can do just as good a job without the drama or money. Harry Potter had no big names as stars (Alan Rickman was moderately known I guess), Star Wars had no big names ... even though they sure created a few, and etc etc.

Well, at least they've met their diversity quota.
I hope they will do something about Cavil's eybrows. Black does not go well with white, unless you don't mind being obviously fake.

This diversity thing is kind of weird. People were flipping out and disgusted at the idea of Ciri being not white, yet I'm not seeing much negativity in terms of Yennefer being played by an actress of Indian decent or Triss being played by a woman with darker skin. (The most negativity I've seen is Yennefer seeming too young compared to Cavill's Geralt)

Although not entirely, judging by posts on this very page. Anyways, Netflix is an American company, so it would be unrealistic to think that they won't cast the usual amount of minority actors just because it doesn't suit the setting.

This is one of the things I detest about American adaptations - turning every setting into a generic, multi-ethnic wonderland where every race of people coexist as if it's always been that way. What's worse is she straight up lied about this: Seems she was feeling really "liberal" after all.

The casting choices look awful and takes more liberties with the characters than the game series ever did. Henry Cavill doesn't look much like Geralt of Rivia but more like Geralt of Middle Earth's Woodland Realm. Anya Chalotra looks too young to be playing Yennefer, big googlely eyes, and is just too soft looking to make a convincing veteran sorceress. Now Triss? lol. Nevermind Anna Shaffer bearing even less of a resemblance to the character than the vg incarnation, she looks like she's older than Yennefer's actress even though Triss is supposed to be younger than Yen, and most of the other sorceresses. Now i wait to see how they'll fuck up the casting for Leo Bonhart and Vilgefortz.
Tfw a porn parody has better casting than a multi million dollar NetFlix production. *Don't worry it's SFW*

It got pretty obvious the developers wouldn't try to be consistent with the setting. I'm honestly far more shocked that they chose an voluptuous attractive woman to play Triss, considering the political leanings of the writing team.
